Anderson Cooper opens up to Ellen DeGeneres about living and co-parenting with ex-bf Ben Maisani
this sounds like a mess.
Anderson says he and Ben get along very well. Ben didn't want kids which is why they broke up but now Ben likes being a co-parent. Ben was crying when they took Wyatt to get his shots (not for covid, just the regular kid shots).
Ellen joked maybe they'll get back together and Anderson said no quickly.
Anderson isn't sure if he'll have more kids. Nothing "in the works" right now

They're putting little Butterball in the fast tracked advanced class.
For fucked up celebrity kids.

Let's face it - Ben is a houseboy and convenient babysitter.
Why would you live with your ex and have him involved in your child's life?
I don't care if you're on good terms and you're still friends. Doesn't mean your ex has to live with you. This is weird and isn't going to end well.

The kid was a grief response to losing his mother. The last surviving member of his immediate family.

He has two older brothers. It’s not like he’s an orphan.

R7 wow didn't know that. He never talks about them. Are they half or full brothers?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 14, 2021 11:07 PM

He has two half-brothers from his mom's previous marriage, but they're 15 and 17 years older than him.
I'm betting that he used the same egg donor that Andy Cohen used. That way, the boys have each other as biological brothers, and little Wyatt won't feel like the last family member standing when Anderson dies. Because let's face it, he's going to still be pretty young when his 52-years-older dad passes away.

The brothers were estranged from Gloria. She never mentioned them. One did appear on a special Anderson did about his roots but the other brother wanted nothing to do with Anderson or Gloria.
It's odd. Her books about the son's suicide don't even acknowledge she actually had 4 kids.
Gloria really alienated them some how.

Why wouldn’t you want the dad in the child’s life? It’s good to have both biological parents in the child’s life.

So. Anderson has a broken marriage.

r11 the boyfriend is not the dad. Anderson is. Ben didn't want the kid.
I don't believe that that is why they broke up. Ben has been documented as having a roving eye. Anderson had a hard time answering Howard Stern as to whether he loves Ben or not when they were together.
Odd relationship. I think Anderson's job is his true love.

How can Ben and Anderson both be the kid's biological parent? Even if they mixed the sperm together, only one would have made the kid.

If they mixed the sperm together then it would be a mixture of their DNA. Half would be Anderson’s and half would be Ben’s.

I'm not sure that's possible yet, R22. From quora, 2019:
"It is possible — at least in principle — to swap out some genes from one sperm cell with the matching alleles from a sperm cell of a different man. We certainly lack the technology to do that right now, but it will soon become possible."

From the same site, a post by an expert:
"...If you mean to combine the sperm DNA of two different men in one fertilized egg, yes, this is possible, but it would fail to produce an embryo.
Two sperm fertilizing one egg is an event called polyspermy. Eggs have two mechanisms for preventing this, called the fast and slow blocks to polyspermy..."

R24, would that multiply the baby's risk of heredity illnesses?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | February 15, 2021 5:55 AM

I have no idea R26. I assume they'd someday like to do the opposite: remove parts of the gene that would make the child have some hereditary disease?

r10, In another interview, Anderson said Gloria wasn't very maternal, so maybe it's not surprising she was estranged from the other kids. It sounds like that's one reason he wanted to co-parent.
"Cooper said that after his father died when he was 10, it was just him, his older brother, Carter, and his mother, Gloria Vanderbilt.
“She was not the most parental person, and I wish some adult after my dad died had stepped in and just been like, ‘You know what? I’ll take you to a ball game or let's go out to lunch every now and then. Let’s just talk,’” Cooper said. “And so I thought, ‘Well if something happens to me — or even if something doesn’t happen to me — if more people love my son and are in his life, I’m all for that.”"

[quote]Anderson had a hard time answering Howard Stern as to whether he loves Ben or not when they were together.
I feel bad for doing this because I generally disapprove to diagnosing people you don't know but let's be a what's a theory you shouldn't have but do thread.
I think Cooper is one of the most troubled in a non-dramatic kind of way people there is. With a dead mother about whom he has ambivalence, yet worship, evident regret about his childhood, the longest known enduring relationship in his life with the likes of Andy Cohen - he goes out and turkey basters Butterball. And curiously announces he's out of the oven on TV. He could have just had a child and accepted in time it would come out. But it's like the Markle school of... everything. Why do it if you don't tell the world? He doesn't seem all that bright - few of his interviews match his peers on CNN (though I'll grant him he at least knows how to shut up and let them do the talking which leads to), he semi-stutters, so what the hell is the underlying stressor or trauma that drives that unfixed after all these years? His taste in friends speaks for itself but shallow leaps to mind. I will say he does give every appearance of loving the child. But I wonder how well he'll do at raising it with his evident character flaws? Even the contorted relationship the ex - and the track record previously - doesn't seem like a knowing rejection of convention. Anyway, worse have had kids, so I guess he gets a kick at raising a dysfunctional future American too.
R9, creative theory. Anyone with a scrap of common sense would run in the opposite direction from the notion of saddling their child with Andy Cohen's child as a lifetime obligation but see above.
As to who the father is, look at Butterball? He's what Anderson Cooper would look like if he ate as he pleased.

So Gloria wasn't the most maternal parent - I have to wonder how much of that was also due to her clothing line taking off just after Anderson's father died. Her name was on the ass of half of all American women by 1979.
And you know what? Parents in the 60's and 70's did not helicopter parent. Parenting really was different then - and not necessarily in a bad way. Parents were not your friends and they weren't so involved in their kids lives and vice versa.
Anderson always down plays his family's money, mother's fame, connections - basically all of the advantages he has had in life, he shrugs off as being not true.
It reeks of the rich kid syndrome who searches for tales of woe in order to level out their advantages - which is only in their head.

Gay life in any city (and NYC is no different) is NEVER MORE than 2 degrees of separation. If the average gay man has hundreds of sexual partners in a lifetime, (and quite a few have THOUSANDS*), a person doesn't have to be a rocket scientist or nuclear physicist to realize that two gay people of approximately the same age in the same city are likely to have slept with at least one man in common, and very possibly more (if they attended the same gym or frequented the same bars).. For absolute certain, one of THEIR sexual partners has slept with some sexual partner of the other.
*52 weekends a year times 20 years equals 1040 in case anyone wonders how this could even be possible.
