Its like Frankie Goes to Hollywood or something...

Frankie goes to Hollywood to New York to Rocky Horror

[quote] Unsuccessful, she then attempted to ban the film from being seen. Stephen Lewicki invited her to view it; Madonna was reportedly unhappy with the result. According to Lewicki, she had an expression of horror on her face and screamed "Fuck you" as she stormed out of his apartment

R3 damn wish that moment had been caught on camera
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 14, 2021 3:24 AM |
R4, apparently, the director loved working with her and said Madonna "had more sensuality in her ear than most women have in their entire bodies". I think it's funny that Madonna was more pissed about the movie than the playboy pics.

What the fuck am I watching?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 14, 2021 4:32 AM |
Yes, I saw this mess many years ago. A local video store had it. I had a few friends over, we watched this dreck and, of course, commented throughout. I also rented The Evil Dead. The Evil Dead was Shakespearean level compared to this trash.
This 'film' is possibly one of the worst indie films ever made. As expected, Madonna was awful.

"The Dark Side of New York" huh? loooool
The dark side of NYC might have been way too much for Miss Michigan. Perhaps she needed to watch some guy getting fisted and pissed on at the Mineshaft to get an idea what "the dark side" was all about.
Her lame posed S&M photos were laughable. Madonna, always the poseur. I guess for flyovers, a transplant like Madonna was considered controversial?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | February 14, 2021 4:52 AM |
I got as far as Madonna dancing, in agony apparently, around a fountain. Is this a music video?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | February 14, 2021 4:52 AM |
Would this movie be thought of as "edgy" in 1979 when it was filmed?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 14, 2021 5:09 AM |
R10 Only flyover queens say "flyover". It's a fact.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 14, 2021 5:28 AM |
I remember seeing it and she wasn’t very good in it. I believe it was her first movie.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 14, 2021 5:37 AM |
[quote][R10] Only flyover queens say "flyover". It's a fact.
Oh how wrong you are, not a fact at all, flyover.
Want to argue, ask me anything about NYC. I was born in Bushwick, at a time when all those hipster assholes, trust funders and flyovers now living there, wouldn't have dared set foot in that neighborhood. My family then moved to Long Island City when I was a child. Been living in Soho since 1978. I bought a loft for $25,000.
Since Dump was elected, DL has been permeated with such disgusting nasty queens. Please STFU.

Some guy who lives down the street from Madonna blogged a few years ago about how he walked past her townhouse as the gate was open and she was at the end of the driveway about to get into a car and how she was glaring at him even though he was just minding his own business.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 14, 2021 6:16 AM |
The rape scene in the film was longer, the version up at Vimeo was cut. Unless there was another rape scene in this mess. I remember the rape scene being longer.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 14, 2021 6:29 AM |
It's such an amateur film, but she is watchable and the camera loves her. I miss Madonna's natural face.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | February 14, 2021 6:40 AM |
This is hilarious. Madonna was never sexy. She was only ever a whore. And she's not even good at that.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 14, 2021 8:42 AM |
It's shit. That is good enough reason not to see it.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 14, 2021 8:46 AM |
The music sequence is hysterical. The singer sounds like a cross between Klaus Nomi and Robert Smith, the females chanting sound like Pulsallama. The movie is so blurry, I can't tell if any of the woman on stage are from Pulsallama. The performance is like a bad night at Danceteria.
The gist of this film, some guy comes from upstate NY to look for some downtown pussy. He ends up raping Madonna's character, then the man is kidnapped and murdered by the lousy band?!

Horrendous, as were many little indie films shot between a group of friends.
But I betcha they had a blast? I sure AF hope they did because that’s all that was coming out of this collaboration... fond memories.

It's like an Abel Ferrara movie mixed with Frankie Goes to Hollywood.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | February 14, 2021 5:27 PM |
This was made when Jimmy Carter was President. That's how OLD she is.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | February 14, 2021 5:32 PM |
this is where she honed her award-winning acting skills!

Is there a non-blurry version available somewhere? DVD?
BLU RAY??
by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 17, 2021 5:55 AM |
I actually bought this DVD at a Rite-Aid once when it was still Eckerd's. It was on clearance. I only watched it once. I made it through less than half of the movie before I donated it to a consignment shop. I stopped watching right after the guy attacks her in the bathroom in the diner.
Can't believe I chose this DVD over a budget box set of classic low budget horror films from the 50's-70's.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | April 17, 2021 6:23 AM |
Wow, Eckerd’s. Now that’s a blast from the past. The nostalgia is rushing over me. I haven’t heard that name in DECADES.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | April 17, 2021 6:26 AM |
Really? Because they were still around in the mid 2000's before Rite-Aid took them over.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | April 17, 2021 6:39 AM |
The CineMadonna review of the movie is more entertaining than the movie itself
by Anonymous | reply 33 | April 25, 2021 11:02 PM |
I'm waiting for the Criterion edition.

[quote]This is hilarious. Madonna was never sexy. She was only ever a whore. And she's not even good at that.
What I find hilarious is the same people that call her a whore are the ones who drop to their knees to suck anonymous cock and swallow a stranger's sperm in a filthy public toilet.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | April 26, 2021 2:18 PM |
What I'm struck by is how Madonna's "acting" never really got any better from this movie until her last.

R33, I really enjoyed all of his reviews of her work, they're very thoughtful and well done. He also did a really good video of why American Life was the point Madonna's career started its downward trajectory - says a lot of things I agreed with and thought I was the only one.
