The Lincoln Project is dead to me

After swindling $100 million from gullible liberals for mansions and yachts, it seems the Lincoln Project is coming to an end in the days ahead

Good. These creepy ex - Bush officials and neocons have served their purpose now they can fuck off. The enemy of my enemy is not my friend.

by Anonymousreply 2February 12, 2021 10:58 PM

Is Schmidt gone because he swindled or because he found it disgusting what happened?

I wondered why I hadn't seen him on MSNBC lately.

by Anonymousreply 4February 12, 2021 10:59 PM

Datalounge liberals gave more love to these grifters than they ever gave to AOC or Bernie Sanders.

by Anonymousreply 5February 12, 2021 11:00 PM

Oh, but everyone here said they'd be working for the Democrats forever....

by Anonymousreply 6February 12, 2021 11:00 PM

by Anonymousreply 7February 12, 2021 11:03 PM

by Anonymousreply 9February 12, 2021 11:04 PM

Rick Wilson does make me laugh but these guys were another Avenatti. I was always suspicious of Schmidt and Conway.

by Anonymousreply 10February 12, 2021 11:04 PM

They all knew what Weaver was doing but didn’t care because they were making millions of dollars a month.

by Anonymousreply 11February 12, 2021 11:06 PM

Who cares? They served their purpose.

by Anonymousreply 12February 12, 2021 11:07 PM

Didnt Steve officially convert to a Democrat after he left the Republican party?

by Anonymousreply 15February 12, 2021 11:19 PM

They were Republicans and that is what Republicans do, even the anti-Trump ones.

by Anonymousreply 16February 12, 2021 11:19 PM

[quote] Utah state voting records accessed by The Post show that Schmidt is an active registered member of the Independent American Party, a small far-right group which promotes conspiracy theories on its website and whose platform could not be further removed from the Democrats’ liberal bent.

I don’t think it will shake out to be as bad as some (and a lot of trolls) think. They DID serve their purpose. They rattled republicans and the former prez. They play dirty dirty. I never gave to them and don’t give to PACs but I hope they continue in some form.

by Anonymousreply 18February 12, 2021 11:23 PM

I am also skeptical of the Meidas brothers

by Anonymousreply 19February 12, 2021 11:23 PM

R17 LOL the NY Post. Was Epoch Times website down?

by Anonymousreply 20February 12, 2021 11:25 PM

He got a divorce it looks like in 2018. And so did Conway from Kellyane this year I think. I wonder if these former Republicans who saw the light could not drag their skanky whore with them?

To be fair, I think Nicolle Wallace who also got a divorce from her husband a couple years ago after leaving the Republican party.

by Anonymousreply 21February 12, 2021 11:27 PM

R20 It was a choice of Fox News or NY Post, while I don't trust the Post much such a declarative statement as "Utah state voting records accessed by The Post show ..." is unlikely to be a false statement even for the Post.

by Anonymousreply 25February 12, 2021 11:32 PM

Yep wishful thinking. The right wing trolls want them defeated so badly. I am LMFAO. They ain’t going anywhere. I bet Steve is a registered Democrat like he claims.

by Anonymousreply 26February 12, 2021 11:32 PM

R5, that's because they accomplished a lot more in this past election than either AOC or Bernie Sanders...or any other delusional super-progressive. That wing of the party causes more problems than they solve.

by Anonymousreply 27February 12, 2021 11:34 PM

When the Post starts quoting people who say stupid things like this, and bringing in George Soros, you really cant trust anything else they say.

"Not surprisingly the accusers of Trump have also come forward, again (perhaps funded and pushed by Soros?),”

by Anonymousreply 28February 12, 2021 11:37 PM

by Anonymousreply 29February 12, 2021 11:38 PM

Shmidt is really the first guy to point out long before the Capital riot that even after Trump was gone, the country would have to defeat Trumpism. Which he predicted would be around for years and so far, he's been correct.

Steve Schmidt is the guy who gave the green light to Sarah Palin. Everything post-Palin is his fault. He started off the 2020 presidential race by hitching his wagon to the Starbucks guy and going on unhinged rants-so unhinged he was banished from MSNBC for months. I don’t trust his judgment one bit and I don’t buy this new revelation that he was raped when he was younger.

by Anonymousreply 73February 13, 2021 12:44 AM

I would say, if giving money to the Lincoln Project got Biden into the White House and Democratic control of both the House and the Senate, it's money well spent.

by Anonymousreply 74February 13, 2021 12:45 AM

[quote] that other job was running the campaign of Howard Schultz. He was put on time out by MSNBC because he failed to disclose to them that he was working for Schultz as he went on the air every day shilling for him.

Correct. And during the time that Steve Schmidt was advising Howard Schultz, he changed his tune. He stopped tweeting and stopped attacking Trump (because Schultz's message was basically that the Democrats were just as bad as Trump). It wasn't until Schultz decided not to run (because he realized he had no chance) that Schmidt went back to attacking Trump. If Schultz had ended up running, Schmidt would have spent the 2020 campaign attacking Democrats just as much as he attacked Trump.

Steven evolved from Republican to Independent to Democrat. Nothing odd about that, no one flips parties overnight. He's now officially on the side of Democrats and registered as one.

by Anonymousreply 77February 13, 2021 12:56 AM

Here’s the tea: the Lincoln Project’s long goal is not to “save” the Republican Party, it’s actually trying to help split it so they can get rid of the old school (ie Romney) and moderates (ie Collins? Are there even any Repug moderates left?). Then a new Republican party of extremist Right Wingers like the QAnon nuts will emerge and take over.

I wonder where Nicolle Wallace fits into all of this (I know she's not part of the Lincoln Project).

by Anonymousreply 82February 13, 2021 1:13 AM

John McCain, and his demon spawn bitch, both deserve to burn in hell, so this makes me like Schmidt a little.

by Anonymousreply 83February 13, 2021 1:22 AM

by Anonymousreply 85February 13, 2021 1:39 AM

They’re political operatives. They’ve been making millions for years working for the GOP. Now they’re making millions working against the GOP and republicans are pissed. They’re only doing what they’ve been doing for their entire careers. So what’s the big whoop here? Millionaire political propaganda agents continue to make millions while working as propaganda agents.

by Anonymousreply 87February 13, 2021 1:42 AM

Boris has a lot of nerve to call liberals “gullible” when Republicans wouldn’t question their conmen authorities if Default Donnie threw 4 million Americans out of work and killed them with COVID!

At least the Lincoln Project ads were effective and won the election.

Who is that total hottie standing next to Steve Bannon? Woof.

by Anonymousreply 89February 13, 2021 1:53 AM

While I liked most of the ads, the founders of the Lincoln Project found their outrage only after a non-establishment Republican was elected president. When Obama was president, they turned a blind eye to the overt racism, xenophobia, scorched earth ploys, and all the lies and conspiracy theories by the Republican Party. It was Steve Schmidt for fuck sake that manipulated John McCain during 2008 to take on Sarah Palin as his VP, even though he knew she was woefully unqualified for such a position.

by Anonymousreply 90February 13, 2021 1:55 AM

Steve Schmidt is on Maher tonight and he was introduced as "MSNBC Consultant," no mention of the Lincoln Project (so far). He also said he is a registered democrat.

by Anonymousreply 91February 13, 2021 2:24 AM

They get into LP later in the show and discuss money. He talked about LP spending $60some million of the $87 million raised on direct voter outreach. Bill asked about the rest. Steve stumbles around a bit and says that they aren't required to disclose payments to subcontractors which is how they protect their employees/vendors from trump supporters.

Isn't that how Brad Paschale went down, by paying "subcontractors" owned by him?

by Anonymousreply 92February 13, 2021 2:46 AM

Us smart liberals spotted this as yet another right wing grift as soon as it started up.

by Anonymousreply 93February 13, 2021 3:06 AM

Yes, R92, and I hope they spend a few decades in jail for their grift.

by Anonymousreply 94February 13, 2021 3:27 AM

They trolled republicans. YAY. I don’t care beyond that. They hate them. They want to destroy them. GOOD. I don’t give money to PACs so doesn’t bother me. Win-win. Only right wing trolls are hating on LP.

by Anonymousreply 95February 13, 2021 3:29 AM

I just heard about this so I did some reading. Looks like a married man with kids had been perving on men (teens? Boys?) and there's controversy over who knew what and when. The "organizational internal control failure" is important but it doesn't matter to me so that's ignored.

There are also this far only allegations that money went to contractors owner by top leadership. Who and whether this is a major deviation from usual practice is not immediately apparent. wait for more reporting.

Lookss like the organization is imploding, an appropriate send of the allegations are true. I can't see how this affects Dems at all.

Also, I don't immediately believe the Steve schmidt is in a far right party; it sounds ridiculous on its face. If he really is registered in the "american independent party" I would sooner believe he thought that meant "political independent" than that he is a secret nazi (no chance, unless he is a god-tier actor, which he's not).

by Anonymousreply 96February 13, 2021 8:39 AM

These guys went along with every vile thing the GOP supported until Trump. Iraq war? Check. Torture? Check. Anti-lgbt legislation? Check. Pro business/Wall Street policies that destroyed the lives of millions of Americans? Check. Anti-abortion? Check. Racism against Obama? Check.

It’s nice they don’t like Trump but it’s sad that these guys became heroes over the last 4 years. They’re awful people who supported awful things for years and years.

Good fucking riddance

by Anonymousreply 106February 14, 2021 1:32 AM

The Lincoln Project had absolutely no impact on the election. All it did was get money and names for a rebranded GOP.

I’m enjoying watching them go down now that Biden is in the White House. Those bitches Nicholle Wallace, Peggy Noonan, and Michael Steele can fuck off as well.

by Anonymousreply 107February 14, 2021 1:34 AM

R107, yep. I posted after the election TLP did fuck all. They swore they would bring Trump down and he gained 10m voters from 2016. They targeted GOP senators and they won easily. Kelly, in AZ, would have won even if TLP didn't exist. GA coming through with the 2 wins saved TLP from embarrassment. And no, that wasn't TLP, that was Stacy Abrams and her grassroots coalition.

It's not so much that I had any insight into their grift. I just found they were not good value for actual impact. I do check Rick Wilson's twitter and though entertaining, you see how they all just hype each other. It's a lot of backslapping for their amazing ads and stunts. Going after Kushner and Ivanka with ads in NYC--okay, funny. I bet that was millions that had exactly zero impact on any election. I watched the ads and everyone kept praising them to high heaven. All of them preached to the choir. Ads that ripped into Trump--again, zero impact changing minds. They just made Trump haters feel good.

And knowing now they likely paid themselves millions, it's hypocritical of Rick WIlson and his buddies to have banged on Parscale and Trump campaign's grift and spending. But I guess they knew how the game is played. Ditto on Trump's sexual predation.

Finally, I was always wary of TLP because they were the assholes behind some of the shittiest GOP campaigns. Schmidt's championing of Palin is near unforgiveable. If he had been genuinely about Never Trump, I could see a sliver of a chance at redemption. But nope, he's just the same asshole. These guys swiftboated John Kerry and buried Vietnam vet and amputee, Max Cleland.

Their work is done.

There is much evidence they did get inside Trump's head-- the last episode of Jonathan Swan's podcast talks about how Trump turned on Pence because of a TLP ad he saw.

But he lost and it's time for the current generation of Republicans to clear their own house.

And, as others have noted, there's the whole Scorpion and the Frog thing with them.

by Anonymousreply 109February 14, 2021 2:13 AM

R109, there is zero incentive for either party to “clear their own house” because they pull in more cash than ever before with infighting and scaring donors.

There is money out there thanks to Citizens United that cannot find an idiot. Bouncing off walls catches those looney dollars.

by Anonymousreply 110February 14, 2021 2:46 AM

Their job was to make films/ads to defeat Trump.

Trump was defeated.

Why wouldn’t they all be resigning?

Job well done.

They’re political operatives, they deal in propaganda. They used their operative propaganda skills to defeat Trump, just like they used their skills to work for Republican candidates now order to defeat democrats. They got paid to defeat democrats in the past; this time time they got paid to defeat Trump. They are high priced people. They accomplished their goal. No reason to continue with this group.

I’d love to know how much money he’s made off his Trump obsession between his TV appearances, books and the LP. Dude needs to find a new hobby or something (but he’ll probably stick with bashing Trump as long as he can keep making bank.)

[quote] I’d love to know how much money he’s made off his Trump obsession between his TV appearances, books and the LP.

Millions.

And why not?

People buy his books. They know what they’re buying. They seek out his books and buy them.

My mother used to buy Bill O’Reilly’s books & give them out as Christmas presents to her rightwing brothers & sisters. O’Reilly was obsessed with the Clintons. Tucker Carlson is obsessed with BLM, professors & students from secular colleges & universities, socialists & communists. He writes books. He has a tv show. He has a “news”site, the Daily Wire. He makes millions, too. People want to read his stuff.

Rupert Murdoch makes billions printing & broadcasting political lies. It’s not illegal. I wish it was, but it’s not. Rudy Giuliani gets paid for books, appearances, speeches & he is a liar and a gaslighted. But people want to pay to hear what he says.

Thousands of journalists, political operatives, clowns, politicians, bankers, gangsters, financial people write books, have tv shows, are pundits & panelists. People are free to *not* buy their stuff. But they buy it.

Princess Meghan hates Steve Schmidt because he called her on her shit. In his book about McCain, he described what a nuisance she was on the campaign trail, how she mostly just got drunk, and called her a "spoiled brat"!

That sounds about right to me.

^^There were also rumors that she was hot for him, he turned her down, and she was real pissed.

Without The Lincoln Project doing their thing, the election would likely have been lost to Trump. I consider the measly $40 that I donated to them to be money well spent. If they got rich, I say they deserve it.

[quote] Without The Lincoln Project doing their thing, the election would likely have been lost to Trump.

Is there any evidence to support that claim? I loved the Lincoln Project's ads, but every time I saw one online, all of the comments about how great they were came from Democrats or Never Trumpers. I doubt there were many people who said, "I used to like Trump, but then I watched the Lincoln Project ads, and now I've changed my mind." And Lincoln Project people like Rick Wilson and Steve Schmidt were constantly on MSNBC, whose viewers have always hated Trump and who knew the moment that Trump took office that they'd be voting straight-ticket Democratic in 2020. The Lincoln Project spent all their time preaching to (and collecting money from) the choir.

Their goal was to get republicans to jump ship and ditch Trump. They, after all, knew how to talk to them since they’re republicans too.

Trump did better with republicans in 2020 than he did in 2016.

They failed. This was a well run grift run by lifelong scammers.

by Anonymousreply 119February 15, 2021 3:40 AM

Did he do better with republicans? Many left the party leaving only the nuts. GA and AZ proved many Rs jumped ship because they didn’t vote for him but did Rs down ballot.

[quote] Jacobin is a far, far left socialist magazine. They hate anyone right of Bernie. Of course they hate the Lincoln Project. They also hate Biden, Warren and everyone else in the Democratic party.

That makes them closet deplorables. The left is the new right wing.

I had wondered if something was up with the group. After the election, Rick Wilson, who was normally a prolific tweeter, suddenly tweeted only a few times per day despite all of the momentous and historical GOP shenanigans and QAnon activity. At one point, he mentioned being on conference calls with lawyers all afternoon. I assumed it had to do with the Weaver stuff as that's when the information started leaking out. Looks like it was that and all the negotiations with Steslow, Galen and Madrid's separations from the group and their settlements.

Their work didn’t win voters, but it did fuck up Trump’s campaign even more (if that’s possible), by trolling an audience of one and setting their campaign agenda for them. Made the campaign more paranoid, defensive, and reactive and cleared a lane for more positive messaging from Biden.

I enjoyed their Twitter feeds, but it was hard to read their revisionist histories lauding the “honorable” Republicans of the past. The Bushes? Cheney? McCain? They fulfilled their role as enemy of my enemy. Now they can fuck off.

George Conway should focus more on getting his house in order.

Rick Wilson used the 'blame Soros for everything' rhetoric before he went after 45 so he is an architect of the fucked up Repug narrative that remains popular with the finger pointing party.

I found their anti-45 ads and the takedowns by Schmidt and even Wilson quite entertaining, but, no, they were never to be trusted. I hope none of you gave them money. In the end, they are just professional trollers serving their own interests.
