Liberal Writer: Firing Actors for Being Conservative Is Another Hollywood Blacklist

She wasn't fired for being conservative. She was fired for comparing Republicans to Jews in the Holocaust.
Pretending it's about her being a conservative is a standard and way too obvious way to dodge responsibility.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 12, 2021 8:38 PM |
She's not blacklisted. Disney doesn't want their brand to be tarnished by online ramblings of a knuckledragging bigot. I'm sure there are plenty of projects developed by Antonio Sabato Jr, Scott Baio, Tim Allen, Kevin Sorbo, etc, which should have no problem giving employment to someone who's a constant stream of the vile far right diarrhea spilling onto social media.

by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 12, 2021 10:57 PM |
The actress raised hell by sharing a TikTok post comparing the current divided political climate in the U.S. to Nazi Germany.
"Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views,” she wrote.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 12, 2021 10:59 PM |
Firing actors for their horribly incendiary, bigoted words is exactly what should happen.
Firing actors who are simply conservative should not happen.

The former should happen more often.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 12, 2021 11:01 PM |
Exactly R15 Plus of course she has what few "facts" she does spew, wrong. It's a holdover from Tr**p - just say whatever vile shit comes to what passes for a mind. No, because that bigotry, along with corruption and greed is what has hollowed out and dealt a body blow to democracy.
Chait is odd and I don't find him a "liberal" writer at all; he's an attention whore posing as something better. It's the most illogical and maddening kind of whataboutism, like they're using today ata teh impeachment to compare a largely peaceful series of demonstrations to an insurrection at the seat of Government, trying to overturn a valid election with a coup, complete with lies and violence and attempted (and real) murder. It doesn't equate.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 12, 2021 11:13 PM |

Why doesn't someone ask this moron who were the ones "beating" people like Liz Cheney and the Republicans in GA for not doing Trump's bidding. Who told Raffensberger's wife she should be raped to death? Was it the Dems who brought the threats to those REPUBLICANS? No, it was Trump supporters. Brian Sicknick wasn't beaten to death by Dems, nor were the POs who lost fingers or an eye.

There should be legal protections to outlaw blacklisting in the entertainment history. There’s nothing more essential to America than free speech. Congress has the power to protect the free speech of people employed by companies engaged in interstate commerce.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 12, 2021 11:28 PM |
What she said wasn't any more offensive than liberals who compare Republicans to Hitler. Most moderates would condemn people in their own party who make such comparisons, however neither would call for their cancellation. What she said was no way a justification for the Holocaust. She was just using an extreme example to get attention. She even took down the post afterwards.

By that standard, the Capitol Riot was mostly peaceful because out of the hundreds of thousands who showed up to protest, only a few people died.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | February 12, 2021 11:37 PM |
So Disney fires her for "being offensive to Jewish people" and she is then hired - within hours- by the most famous Jewish conservative commentator in the country?

by Anonymous | reply 27 | February 12, 2021 11:50 PM |
Now do Colin K. The same people whining about her were fine with Colin being fired - and that would include the president who CALLED FOR IT.
Shove "free speech" up your ass, because you're too stupid to understand what it even means. Colin K. was an actual victim of it because the president himself was calling for his termination. When did Biden call for this one to get fired?
A lot of you liking each other's idiocy aren't even bright enough to understand what this is about or you're just too lazy to see it. I'm also 100% sure that many of you defending her were fine with Kevin Hart getting fired from the Oscars for his "free speech."
by Anonymous | reply 28 | February 12, 2021 11:50 PM |
Republicans are the modern-day Nazis trying to claim the victimhood of yesteryears' Jewish people.

R30, are you one of Trump's idiot lawyers? CONTEXT. Did you even pay attention to WHY Mia quoted it? Who in the hell came for Trump supporters? They're the ones telling everyone they have guns and they're coming for us. They're the fucking reason interns and elected officials at the Capitol were hiding under god damned desks. They're the reason people are DEAD. They're the ones who screamed "Jews will not replace us" along with going after every other non-white group.
We're not talking about silencing people over a difference on tax cuts. Why are you people playing stupid? Are you trolling or are you genuinely stupid?

Saying they should shut up is not the same thing as saying they should get fired. Most athletes or actors actually get brownie points for stating politically approved opinions, which take no courage whatsoever.

Pedro Pascal hasn’t been fired yet.
When two employees engage in substantially similar behavior that violates company policy, and only one person is terminated, the company usually loses in court.
Unless they fire Pedro Pascal as well, she will receive a significant settlement.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | February 13, 2021 1:07 AM |

I don’t see the dozens of A-list celebrities that have encouraged violence towards Republicans being canceled or castigated. You are obviously blind to the double standard you embrace.
If Disney doesn’t fire Pedro Pascal for engaging in similar behavior then she will make more money from the settlement of the lawsuit than she would have ever made as an actress.

Lawyers and employment courts will not see it that way.
Just because he is more famous doesn’t shield him from scrutiny during this kind of lawsuit. He compared Trump supporters to Nazis, while she had a much more nuanced take on the dangers of “othering”.

I have no problem isolating a "neighbor" who thinks being a certain race or religion alone should get you banned from this DEMOCRACY where our god damned constitution states you aren't supposed to discriminate based on religion. She is a supporter of someone who was and is a BIRTHER. I don't know what bullshit you people think you are "defending," but it is in no way "civilized." There is nothing innocuous about Trump. That's exactly the point I made. I then went on to say that social media organizations were not acting in their financial interest because they were acting in behest of big government. Notice how they don't censor Chinese propaganda.

Carano has been targeted by the transtapo ever since she did the "beep, bop, boop" post which was funny shit. This was not because of the Nazi post because she never said that Republicans were who she was talking about (even though, knowing her politics, we can infer). This was directly because the transtapo wanted her gone and they got their wish.
Carano should not have been let go just as Kathy Griffith should not have been blacklisted. You cannot be for one but not the other. And I'm as liberal as they come.

No, they're openly calling for sedition and spreading fantastic lies about COVID and elections. They're free to say whatever they want, along with delusional twit R106.
Yet they forever play the victim card about 'the left.'
What a tired, cliché-spewing idiot is R106.

This nobody 'actress' served at the pleasure of her employer, the most traditional and small-c conservative company in Hollywood. She signed a contract that contained language forbidding bringing Disney and its brand into disrepute, this disrepute being defined solely by her employer. This role was her chance of a lifetime, and she threw it away because she simply could not resist spewing political idiocy on Twitter. End of.
That said, I feel sure we will all look forward to seeing Carano and Ben Shapiro on the stage accepting their Oscars on Academy Awards night 2022.

[quote]Nothing that she said is remotely anti-Semitic
It's not just what she wrote - she included one of the most horrific images of the time in her post.
The treatment of the Jews during the Holocaust came from centuries of antisemitism targeting a minority group. It is in no way comparable to the treatment of conservatives who make up almost half of the voting public. There is no way that slagging off right wingers on Twitter will get anywhere near the hatred that led to the Holocaust. Exploiting the worst crime of the modern era to make a pathetic political point may not be motivated by antisemitism, but it's still offensive.

[quote] The story is really nothing - They were not bringing her back to the Mandalorian - they said so -
She was about to get her own spin-off Star Wars show before Disney found out late last year her social media presence. Apparently her involvement with the show was terminated immediately but they decided to wait for that one big blunder that would be the reason to publically fire her. And they got it with her idiotic 'Republicans are hunted like Jews' post.
It seems she's been living in the right-wing propaganda bubble. She really thought it's perfectly fine to post hateful crap on social media.
R108, she was making fun of people wearing masks and posting other right-wing meme stuff, it has never been only about "the transtapo" going after her. BTW, it's annoying that being critical of certain aspects of trans politics these days is immediately seen as being a far right attitude. Because there most certainly should be more open conversation about certain trans issues. I do totally believe that people are fluid in many ways but eg pushing gay teens to change sex just doesn't seem right.

Boris the OP "doesn't see" because he's a willfully blind sociopath.
Despite never having a counterargument, this is the three billionth thread the OP has started or invaded trying to reduce Trump's violent attacks on innocent people, crimes, the overthrow of the U.S. government and brainwashing his trash followers to "just a difference of opinion."
These are real, physical attacks against innocent people Shitler and his white trash army of suckers want to legalize. They want more Americans dead of COVID-19, as well.
Boris thinks he can just ignore the facts and they'll go away. In reality, voters are just going to keep ignoring Republican candidates.
It's not an "opinion" that Donald Trump's trade wars cost the U.S. economy 1,800 U.S. factories BEFORE the pandemic. It's not an "opinion" that Trump cut taxes for corporations manufacturing overseas. It's not an "opinion" that Trump lost more U.S. jobs than any president in history, a staggering 4 million NET LOSS of U.S. jobs from 2017 - 2020, including 300,000 U.S. manufacturing jobs lost as a direct result of his failed trade war with China BEFORE THE PANDEMIC. These are all FACTS.
It's not an "opinion" that Donald Trump's neglect enabled the coronavirus to kill 470,000 Americans. It's not an "opinion" that Donald Trump has taken million$ from the Russian mafia, including his campaign money, after decades of criminal rackets and promoting Russian political propaganda since the 1970s. It's not an "opinion" that Trump's business partners routinely kill anyone who challenges them in Russia, or lock them up and steal all their property as Putin is doing this minute. It's not an "opinion" that Trump approved of Russia paying bounties to Taliban terrorists to KILL U.S. TROOPS in Afghanistan. It's not an opinion that Trump ordered the U.S. Postal Service to dismantle mailboxes and sorting machines to suppress the mail-in vote. These are all FACTS. Harmful, innocent people-killing, economy-destroying. democracy-crushing FACTS.
So don't let these redneck liars try to reduce all these atrocities to just "a difference of opinion" or "controversy." It's violent treason and persecution. They're evil, fucking liars obeying a psychopath unconditionally.
The false Holocaust analogy isn't even the worst of what ALL Republican voters have done for the last 5 years. Carano thinks she can publish libel and slander online freely, which is ignorant of her and all her cheerleaders falsely equating it with "free speech."
Carano got off easily —‚ she should be locked in a cage and permanently separated from her parents, like she did to those Mexican toddlers. But with a hefty fine for publishing libel.

R32 She was warned about writting stupid things on twitter. It's obvious Disney didn't want the controversy.
They didn't fired for previous "scandals" even a big part of the audience of the show wanted her gone but she seems to feel the need to provoque people constantly online. She got what she was asking for, as simple as that

R126 You don't seem to understand a thing. They fired her because she was bad for business, as simple as that.
And this is not a case of Disney overreacting. In the little time she is on the show she created (because she created most of them) a lot of controversies. They didn't fire her for the stupid pronoums scandal (she didn't deal well, but she has the same right to define herself as whatever she wants, the same right trans people have to use the pronoums they chose), but this was just the last stupid thing she did.
If you are unable to do your job without creating problems for your bosses you are going to be fired, it's as simple as that.
the fans wanted her out, so she was an easy target and she makes it even easier
by Anonymous | reply 131 | February 13, 2021 10:46 AM |

Rare is the conservative who's a good artist. And then there's the risk of negative PR of they are given to making stupid remarks, our have done so in the past. Not a good investment. A risk not worth taking. That's hardly a blacklist.
by Anonymous | reply 134 | February 13, 2021 11:50 AM |
That's because arts are rarely conservative. They are about pushing limits, watch the world with different eyes.
I remember an article about the problems conservative readers have to find good fiction (fiction that is in line with their view of the world). On genres like noir or scifi is not that rare to find conservative writers but on literary fiction the closer you get is a Marilynne Robinson who is more spiritual and religious than conservative.
On films is a different story, a lot of mainstream films have a pretty conservative message

Should Disney hire Hitler to make a movie?

[quote] the fans wanted her out, so she was an easy target and she makes it even easier
What a load of bull. Deranged people on Twitter are not "the fans". The public reaction to her firing has been mostly negative to the point where even liberals are criticizing it. Her views are not controversial and shared by nearly half the country. So I don't buy this excuse that Disney did this because it was what the fans wanted.
Disney risks alienating more viewers than they hope to gain by firing someone for their political beliefs. The new Star Wars trilogy sucked because of their political pandering, yet they kept forcing it down the fans throats to the point where there was huge backlash.

How damned stupid are celebrities? Posting political stuff is like an instant IQ test
If they want to do it, they're risking their jobs. They are gleefully risking a job that could earn them MILLIONS. One misconstrued post can lose tens of millions of dollars for a project
If these celebs can't read the "temperature of the room" and still INSIST on post inflammatory things, they are looking for a fight with half of society. No employer of any type should have to deal with someone like that. From either side
When they applied, screen tested, auditioned for the job, they didn't mention that they would be spending their free time agitating with half the country over politics. Had they have made that disclaimer during the audition, contract signing, I'm sure they wouldn't have been hired
I live in a small town and don't post any political stuff under my own name.

This doesn't seem that hard, people are not born conservative/liberal/moderate and can opt out of that at anytime change or evolve in point of view., not so much with ethnicity.
