The mysterious success of Joe Rogan

I find it very strange how he has managed to finagle his way into so many different professional contexts with so much success (and apparently unquestioned acceptance from the people already in those environments). There is really nothing enigmatic about him except that. He started out acting on sitcoms, moved to reality TV/Fear Factor, then became a wildly successful stand-up comic, then a prolific UFC commentator, and now is something of all of those things, plus a Brazilian jiu-jitsu guru/insanely successful podcaster/psychedelic isolation tank enthusiast/public "intellectual".

His comedy is truly not funny, yet he seems to have a legitimate cult of comedians licking his boots everywhere he goes. People are flocking to Austin, Texas because he's set up shop there. I've never seen people (especially other famous people) respond to someone in such a way. It's beyond weird to me.

He was hot when he was young—I'll give him that—but he's ruined his body with steroids and all of his weird "anti-aging" efforts. He looks like a broken toe coated in Vaseline.

I’ve never listened to his show, but my take: He gets white, straight males’ dicks hard. He’s muscular, (to them) funny, and the very definition of an “alpha male”. He’s the guy they want to be. Beyond that, he pretty deftly navigates politics, as I understand it, inviting both viewpoints on his show.

by Anonymousreply 1February 12, 2021 6:59 PM

He was gorgeous back in his "Newsradio" days. but he ruined his looks with all the steroids and HGH treatments.

by Anonymousreply 2February 12, 2021 7:11 PM

Agreed, R2. I would have fucked his brains out back when he looked like this. He was so handsome. Unfortunately, the steroids and bodybuilding have wrecked his body. He looks like shit, yet seems to think himself a paragon of health and vitality. The reality is that he is quite short and does not really have the frame to sustain the amount of muscle he seems to want to have. There are photos of him where his torso looks truly deformed. I do think all of it comes from a "short man syndrome" place—which is unfortunate. He looked great the way he was, short or not.

Current stand-ups love him because he'll go after any comedian who steals someone else's material. He's a bulldog that way.

by Anonymousreply 4February 12, 2021 7:25 PM

He's a mean guy too. Despite the sexiness back in the day I could never get over that.

by Anonymousreply 5February 12, 2021 7:25 PM

We shame fat people for being fat but not steroid users for wrecking their bodies in a different way.

by Anonymousreply 6February 12, 2021 7:30 PM

What a load ^^^

The guy was never attractive. You people will screw anything.

His show is “subtle” right-wing fodder for the lowbrow set.

by Anonymousreply 7February 12, 2021 7:39 PM

His nips look worked in OP's pic in a way that straight guys' nips never do. It's ironic given that (as R1 says) it's straight guys who totally idolize him. But there used to be stories about him at gay sex clubs.

He was definitely cute in the NewsRadio days.

by Anonymousreply 8February 12, 2021 7:53 PM

R8 the thought of him taking loads during his NewsRadio days is hot. There are times on his podcast where he comes across quite flaming. I wouldn't be surprised if he was bisexual.

by Anonymousreply 9February 12, 2021 8:05 PM

Now he’s an immunologist - he told his Spotify listeners that they don’t need to get the vaccine if they’re young.

Apparently his neck muscles have completely replaced his brain.

by Anonymousreply 10April 27, 2021 7:45 PM

One senses small dick energy.

by Anonymousreply 11April 27, 2021 7:49 PM

Each level of success brings him a greater degree of ugliness.

by Anonymousreply 12April 27, 2021 8:10 PM

While I mostly disagree with Joe on most things, I give him a lot of credit for bringing credibility and awareness to the benefits of Kratom. It's a miracle plant that should be embraced by the medical community to help end opioid addiction.

by Anonymousreply 13April 27, 2021 8:22 PM

Doesn’t kratom replace opiate addiction with kratom addiction?

You can buy it at gas stations in impoverished parts of town.

How is it miraculous?

by Anonymousreply 14April 27, 2021 8:35 PM

If you're an undereducated young white guy who spent your formative years either playing video games in your parents' basement or jerking off to Pornhub videos, you would find yourself disaffected by the world in which smart non-Americans with Ivy League degrees land coveted tech jobs, while guys with money and social prestige date and marry hot girls (and, having been raised on porn, only one of those silicone-filled Instahos will do).

So, you settle into your minimum wage job and Joe Rogan, Jordan Peterson, and their ilk, will sell you a convenient, easy to digest explanation why your life sucks and how to fix it: start with weird diets and iffy supplements which will "make you a real man", embrace the cult of hypermasculinity, fight feminists, immigrants, and whoever is holding you back (in your mind) and some such facile nonsense. There's a lot of money to be made off bullshit.

That Brogan changes his facile opinion every 5 minutes doesn’t matter. He’s mind numbingly stupid and talks to other stupid people and acts (key word is ACTS) like he’s intelligent and by extension, THEY’RE intelligent because they listen to him. These rubes are not looking for smarts, just talk.

by Anonymousreply 15April 27, 2021 8:51 PM

Please don't forget his life on the side with Bryan Callen.

by Anonymousreply 16April 27, 2021 9:01 PM

He's not funny but a decent interviewer. He gives guests time to speak without interrupting them. He isn't partisan. DL doesn't like to be challenged. It does like MSNBC or CNN to tell them what to think.

by Anonymousreply 17April 27, 2021 9:10 PM

Joe Rogan wants to save baby boy penises from being mutilated. Right on, Joe. Fight the good fight, and thank you.

by Anonymousreply 18April 27, 2021 9:23 PM

He had to delete his interviews with Milo...

I was kind of bummed out when Maynard James Keenan went on his show, as a huge Tool fan here. Maynard has been very vocal about those who oppose same sex marriages in the past. Rogan gets some unlikely guests to appear on his show. I don't get it.

I don't like a roided douchebro telling 30yos to not get vaccinated. But whatever you need to tell yourself to soak in "independent" thinking.

by Anonymousreply 22April 27, 2021 9:50 PM

Lydia Lunch. WHET?

by Anonymousreply 23April 27, 2021 9:52 PM

Alex Jones in better packaging. Deeply, deeply stupid pseudo-scientific horseshit disguised as "independent" thinking.

by Anonymousreply 24April 27, 2021 10:13 PM

One douchebag attracting other douchebags.

by Anonymousreply 25April 27, 2021 10:15 PM

same factors that led to stern being so popular in the 90s

by Anonymousreply 26April 27, 2021 10:32 PM

R4 He resorted to that schtick because he wasn't good enough being an actual comedian.

He's successful now because dudebros think he's "intelligent". And he's doing Henry Rollins' act (talk about stealing material).

by Anonymousreply 27April 27, 2021 10:32 PM

He probably back stabbed numerous people

by Anonymousreply 28April 28, 2021 12:07 AM

Oh I’ve seen people respond this way, Donald Trump, Anthony Fauci are two recent examples.

by Anonymousreply 29April 28, 2021 12:09 AM

Thank you, R7. The way some people here slobber all over him is pathetic. And he does not "deftly navigate politics," he trades in misinformation and remains a 2x Trump supporter. He's nothing short of vile and complicit.

by Anonymousreply 30April 28, 2021 12:11 AM

[quote]Oh I’ve seen people respond this way, Donald Trump, Anthony Fauci are two recent examples.

Anthony Fauci spent 40 years of his life fighting HIV/AIDS. Get his name out of your fucking mouth.

by Anonymousreply 31April 28, 2021 12:30 AM

I think the appeal is he has an open mind. Precious little of that these days.

by Anonymousreply 32April 28, 2021 12:37 AM

[quote]I think the appeal is he has an open mind.

You mean like Forrest Gump?

Explanation: He's a Leo.

This article tries to explain it and ends up with a, more or less, same conclusion that we have reached.

He has the the mentality of an incel, but gets laid.

by Anonymousreply 36April 28, 2021 1:09 AM

I love all these comments: "I don't understand Rogan, so he must be horrible."

But remember, the people who tell you that you live in a bubble are crazy.

by Anonymousreply 37April 28, 2021 1:09 AM

Based on the videos I've seen he likes them cheap with enough silicone to float a battleship.

by Anonymousreply 38April 28, 2021 1:21 AM

R33 Well, everybody liked Forrest Gump. And everybody likes Joe Rogan. He's genial.

by Anonymousreply 39April 28, 2021 2:02 AM

[quote][R33] Well, everybody liked Forrest Gump. And everybody likes Joe Rogan. He's genial.

And simple.

by Anonymousreply 40April 28, 2021 2:07 AM

The "apes" in the theater would beg to differ.

by Anonymousreply 41April 28, 2021 2:07 AM

[quote] Why Is Joe Rogan So Popular? He understands men in America better than most people do. The rest of the country should start paying attention.

Understanding simple minded douche bro idiots and catering to them and their ignorance are 2 different things. They are not some new mysterious puzzle.

by Anonymousreply 42April 28, 2021 6:18 AM

If anyone ever asks you what straight white male privilege is just say "Joe Rogan" and walk away.

by Anonymousreply 43April 28, 2021 6:29 AM

He presented his roidy hole in the right places.

by Anonymousreply 44April 28, 2021 6:33 AM

Oh look, another troll post about non-entity, Joe Rogan. DL's just dying to find out more about this straight pandering douche!

by Anonymousreply 45April 28, 2021 7:05 AM

R31 Same Fauchi who killed many gays with AZT

Get the fuck out of here.

by Anonymousreply 46April 28, 2021 7:07 AM

Fauchi? U iz two stoopid 2 B beleaved, R46.

by Anonymousreply 47April 28, 2021 7:20 AM

He's the go to for every straight pseudo intellectual who can hardly count to ten but thinks he's a whiz at calculus.

by Anonymousreply 48April 28, 2021 9:05 AM

[quote][R33] Well, everybody liked Forrest Gump.

Uh, no.

by Anonymousreply 49April 28, 2021 9:43 AM

There's a lot of fat on top of his "muscle." He looks like a sausage. Probably has clogged arteries and constipation.

by Anonymousreply 50June 23, 2021 6:01 PM

He's a stupid straight guy's idea of a smart, healthy, virile stud of a man.

It's interesting that he says he was a Taekwondo champion one year but there's no evidence of it. Locally we have a Taekwondo studio where the owners also say they were champions at the same time, but the online archives don't show their names as being competitors at all. Weird coincidence.

by Anonymousreply 51June 23, 2021 6:23 PM

I've never understood the appeal of Rogan, or that Jordan Peterson guy.

by Anonymousreply 52June 23, 2021 6:42 PM

^ You're gay.
