Elder Theater Gays Tell Me About Gilbert Price

Have a CD of OBC recordings from various musicals. "Feeling Good" from "The Roar of the Greasepaint, the Smell of the Crowd" is sung by Gilbert Price. Cannot find much about him online other than a short Wiki page. He had powerful voice and was supposedly rather good looking, enough that Langston Hughes became smitten (allegedly).

He was on Merv's show frequently.

In a biographical essay written by Allen Warren Smith, Price is identified as being "gay". Price died on January 2, 1991 from asphyxiation due to a faulty space heater in Vienna, Austria.

Thank you for that bit of information. Hope Price family or estate sued landlords of that Vienna gas trap.

Found Gilbert Price's NYT obituary, seems so little work for such a great talent. His voice alone was fantastic.
