I loath the 'Oh Dear' queen

Let's kick it into it's stank pussy.
Let's kick it into it's stank pussy.

Oh, dear.
I loath the 'Oh Dear' queen

Oh, [italic]dear.[/italic]

by Anonymousreply 2February 8, 2021 2:01 AM

It's "loathe," OP, with an E at the end.

by Anonymousreply 3February 8, 2021 2:01 AM

"it's stanky pussy."

by Anonymousreply 4February 8, 2021 2:02 AM

This unoriginal troll is aware of her grammatical errors. She knows the post will yield the attention she craves.

by Anonymousreply 5February 8, 2021 2:03 AM

Sometimes that queen teaches me something, sometime she makes me laugh, two things you are probably incapable of doing. Lighten up, OP

by Anonymousreply 6February 8, 2021 2:07 AM

This specimen filled its own post with oh-dear-worthy errors — and there’s a reason for that: OP wishes to be invaded and degraded by the Oh Dear Troll.

Count on it, bitches.

by Anonymousreply 7February 8, 2021 2:09 AM

oh deer

by Anonymousreply 8February 8, 2021 2:15 AM

Just block the oh dear queens, they don't contribute anything worthwhile.

by Anonymousreply 9February 8, 2021 2:16 AM

In defense of the "Oh Dear" troll(s), whenever I see that I go back to search for the offending issue (if I hadn't already spotted it). Too easy to skip over misspellings, punctuation, etc. and I occasionally learn something constructively. (On DL of all places!)

by Anonymousreply 10February 8, 2021 2:19 AM

It's mean spirited. People should feel free to contribute without fear. This is not a USA only site and for some, english is a second language. We should be more welcoming...

by Anonymousreply 11February 8, 2021 2:21 AM

Someone who spends all day on DL, a non-major social media site, going through countless posts in numerous threads looking for grammatical errors to highlight, is quite strange and craves attention.

by Anonymousreply 12February 8, 2021 2:23 AM

Our input is not a work product....sometimes I am rushed and mss something. I don't have the time, as the grammar queens must, to read through and analyze everything.

by Anonymousreply 13February 8, 2021 2:25 AM

There's no one Oh Dear Troll. It's what we do here when someone is illiterate or sloppy.

by Anonymousreply 14February 8, 2021 2:26 AM

Let me tell you, it is a pleasure to come to this board and I appreciate the grammarians, because if you look at the spelling and the idiocy of so many comments sections on so many other sites, this place is a breath of fresh air

by Anonymousreply 15February 8, 2021 2:27 AM

R12, we don’t look for the mistakes; they look for us.

And they find us.

by Anonymousreply 16February 8, 2021 2:30 AM

I block them. They are the message board equivalent of stepping in shit.

by Anonymousreply 17February 8, 2021 2:44 AM

When I read posts on DL that are confusing or contain spelling errors, I move-on. I dont know these annonymous people, and am not treating DL posts as manuscripts to grade.

A lot of posters on DL are well-educated. But for some, English is not their native language. Some may be rather young, others may be very elderly. We don't know who has disabilities that may hinder their communication skills, including typing. And yes, some are careless, don't proof, and don't care about proper spelling. They didn't sign a contract.

R11 is correct about the mean-spiritedness. And suggests "oh, dear" is a shallow, damaged person.

by Anonymousreply 18February 8, 2021 2:49 AM

Let OP have her fun, you patsies. After all, the bait hardly was subtle - for anyone smart enough to notice.

I myself am surprised she didn't add "quean" and "kicke."

by Anonymousreply 19February 8, 2021 2:59 AM
This is not a USA only site and for some, english is a second language.

For them, the corrections should be the most welcome.

p.s. -- "English" is capitalized.

by Anonymousreply 20February 8, 2021 3:02 AM

A bullshit entertainment forum that gets hundreds of posts per day by people quickly typing their random thoughts is not the place to look for perfect spelling or grammar. It's so odd to me that there are people who don't realize this about internet forums. I assume they're very old and don't know how a lot of modern society works.

by Anonymousreply 21February 8, 2021 3:05 AM

And yes, there are many international people here who don't have English as a first or even second language, many of them probably don't even use English in their day-to-day lives. Getting uptight about their grammar and spelling is insensitive and just a really shitty thing to do.

by Anonymousreply 22February 8, 2021 3:07 AM

If you block an oh dear troll and look at their other posts, correcting grammar and spelling is pretty much all they do. They don't contribute anything else so if you block them you won't miss anything. They are very sad and strange people to be doing this on an online forum.

by Anonymousreply 23February 8, 2021 3:10 AM

I love the 'Oh Dear' queen!

by Anonymousreply 24February 8, 2021 3:11 AM

I love a good 'oh dear', especially when it is directed against someone I despise.

by Anonymousreply 25February 8, 2021 3:12 AM

I love how some people think this is only one person doing this.

by Anonymousreply 26February 8, 2021 3:13 AM

OP thank you for starting this thread. A grammar troll previously unknown to me revealed itself and I have now put it on block.

by Anonymousreply 27February 8, 2021 3:36 AM

No. Suck it up, pansy.

by Anonymousreply 28February 8, 2021 3:40 AM

Who taught me the difference between affect and effect? Oh, Dear!

Who taught me the difference between less and fewer? Oh, Dear!

Who taught me to distrust my eyes and ears? Who taught me etiquette for peers? Who has prehensile ears? Oh, Dear!

by Anonymousreply 29February 8, 2021 3:44 AM

Spelling errors are usually a result of this site’s autoincorrect function.

by Anonymousreply 30February 8, 2021 3:46 AM

There isn't ONE of us. We're a team. We're the volunteer firefighters of grammar! If you see it, you should call it out before the ignorance spreads.

Take a look at other sites where grammar and spelling aren't policed. Do you like that? It's a slippery slope. Let it go and next thing you know everyone is posting in Pidgin.

by Anonymousreply 31February 8, 2021 3:53 AM
next thing you know everyone is posting in Pidgin.

Is Pidgin better than Gibberish?

Some people hers are proud of their Illiteracy.

by Anonymousreply 32February 8, 2021 3:57 AM

by Anonymousreply 33February 8, 2021 4:00 AM
There isn't ONE of us. We're a team. We're the volunteer firefighters of grammar! If you see it, you should call it out before the ignorance spreads.

And you're despised. A bullshit forum like this is not the place to police grammar. Maybe you could get a job reviewing legal briefs or doctoral dissertations.

by Anonymousreply 34February 8, 2021 4:23 AM

My best friend is a retired English teacher and he said he would never do anything so childish as to correct other people’s grammar on the Internet.

by Anonymousreply 35February 8, 2021 4:28 AM

Oh deer. Is that better OP?

by Anonymousreply 36February 8, 2021 4:35 AM

R35 If your friend had done his job properly, we wouldn't NEED to correct grammar on the internet.

by Anonymousreply 37February 8, 2021 4:36 AM

R35, and some of us would, so fuck him.

by Anonymousreply 40February 8, 2021 4:48 AM

by Anonymousreply 42February 8, 2021 5:00 AM

We are Datalounge. We are all the Oh Dear Queen.

by Anonymousreply 43February 8, 2021 5:02 AM

Adults should not be subjected to grammar/spelling that would seriously embarrass a 6 year old. Spell check and proofread before you post!

by Anonymousreply 44February 8, 2021 5:04 AM

Nah, r44. Not in a place like this.

by Anonymousreply 45February 8, 2021 5:12 AM

I love the oh dear queen(s). My work emails are so much better now. Lots of silly mistakes before I came to DL.

by Anonymousreply 46February 8, 2021 5:13 AM

Oh dear!

R32 meant to say 'Some people here are proud of their Illiteracy'.

by Anonymousreply 47February 8, 2021 5:14 AM

I’m with R46. I try to be more of an active writer than passive, check my tenses, and pick up all my dangling participles whenever I post here.

Then I take that and do better in the world beyond Datalounge, including not starting a sentence with “And”.

by Anonymousreply 48February 8, 2021 5:22 AM

The grammar queens here don't seem to "get" conversational English, which is the way many people write on forums and the internet in general. Again, the grammar queens are likely old and out of touch.

by Anonymousreply 49February 8, 2021 5:28 AM

"Conversational English" doesn't excuse having never learned the use of apostrophes, commas, capital letters or basic sentence structure. Being a functional illiterate who doesn't know the difference between it's and its, or there, their and they're is not being "in touch," you slob. Quite the reverse. Typing in English is the main form of communication here. If you're out of toujh with basic English typing skills, then fuck the fuck off, R49, you sniveling cunt crumb.

by Anonymousreply 50February 8, 2021 5:44 AM

Ooh, look, R49! A typo: "toujh"

That's not the same as not knowing that what you're typing is wrong.

by Anonymousreply 51February 8, 2021 5:50 AM

r50 DL is quick typing in a conversational style. My grammar and spelling is perfect where it matters, as I'm sure it is with other posters. The old out of touch spelling queens here actually think that people who aren't perfect with internet forum writing are the same when they do professional/formal writing because they're, well, old and out of touch.

by Anonymousreply 52February 8, 2021 6:03 AM

I'm astounded that r50 actually thinks that the way many of us type on DL is the standard way we type or write in other areas of our lives. He clearly has no connection to modern life or the way things are in reality.

by Anonymousreply 53February 8, 2021 6:05 AM

R50/R51 was so eager to be a raging twat that they made a mistake and now they look foolish.

Little smiles make life worthwhile.

by Anonymousreply 54February 8, 2021 6:17 AM

R54 your mother looks more like a dumb twat having committed an intolerable mistake, all things considered. All things being you, of course.

by Anonymousreply 55February 8, 2021 6:22 AM

r55 is a touchy pissy little thing.

by Anonymousreply 56February 8, 2021 6:30 AM

by Anonymousreply 62February 8, 2021 8:58 AM

Don’t assholes ALWAYS get butthurt when called out on their mistakes rather than sucking it up and IMPROVING? It never fails. Is there a better way to draw attention to your failings than by whining miserably and wringing one’s hands over it?

by Anonymousreply 63February 8, 2021 9:09 AM

R63, the “quiet gratitude” is something for which we always aim. We’re not graceful and we’re dysfunctional enough not to know how to express thanks or the desire to reform in a gentle manner. There has to be a performance and sulking before correction sinks into our skulls.

So, thank you. You have helped me.

by Anonymousreply 64February 8, 2021 9:16 AM

I just laugh out loud whenever I get "oh dear"ed which has happened a whole lot of times

I'm iliterite and slopy and I dont give a fuck

by Anonymousreply 65February 8, 2021 9:22 AM

R11, Datalounge as a whole is mean spirited.

Lately we've had a LOT of people who start fights, but when the person they bitched at snaps back, they immediately scream it's unfair. They often get so upset that they tell everyone else to leave Datalounge, or they'll stalk you for a few threads, trying to "get back" at you.

That's a relatively new phenomenon, though, and don't think the protestations of these delicate flowers mean DL is a nice place. It's not. Getting an "oh, dear" or getting called a fat whore is about the nicest you're going to get treated here.

by Anonymousreply 66February 8, 2021 9:32 AM

The only problem with Oh, Dear-ing lately is that half the time, the person trying to Oh, Dear someone is wrong. That's embarrassing and a waste of time.

by Anonymousreply 67February 8, 2021 9:34 AM

One must indulge "oh, dear". She has needs.

Because you're a thirsty-ass bitch, I'm certain you know full well that someone mistaking "its" for "it's" doesn't mean they're a functional illiterate. You're always trying way too hard to get people angry, and I'd like you to know that I don't mean the general, all-purpose "you," I mean you, personally, specifically, and explicitly.

I have no idea what R number you are because I'm not gonna take your ass off ignore to find out, but you're desperate for attention, so I'm sure you'll see this.

by Anonymousreply 69February 8, 2021 9:38 AM

"Oh, dear" sounds like something a troubled or confused high society lady would say in the 1940s.

by Anonymousreply 70February 8, 2021 9:50 AM

Well, I say 'oh, dear' on rare occasions when a new gentleman caller is endowed slightly beyond what my dainty, tight poosie can comfortably withstand.

by Anonymousreply 71February 8, 2021 9:57 AM

Of course you are, OP.

People with shortcomings are sensitive about them.

by Anonymousreply 72February 8, 2021 10:02 AM

“Oh, dear” is the sound Lady Elaine makes when she sees the turd that escaped a pant leg.

It’s the sound of worry, displeasure, disappointment, and fear of sinful stains that refuse to come out no matter how hard one washes.

It’s the acknowledgement that we can never have nice things because we’re stuck with us.

It's a shared meme, R74. Everyone posts an "oh, dear" now and again.

People who think there is only one person who ever posts "oh, dear" don't really understand how Datalounge works.

by Anonymousreply 77February 8, 2021 10:46 AM

'Oh, dear' is a prissy, bitter, and lonely elderqueen that has some copycat posters.

by Anonymousreply 78February 8, 2021 10:51 AM

No, it's a shared meme.

It's weird to me that people assume everyone who does an "oh, dear" (or any similar in-joke or meme) are all the same person, with maybe a few exceptions. You think the same person has, for 20 years, searched out spelling errors and mistakes of grammar in any and all threads, at all times of the day or night?

by Anonymousreply 79February 8, 2021 10:54 AM

As a proud member of the DL grammar force, I acknowledge that the office calls for some judgment. Obvious mistakes caused by haste normally need not be oh, deared. The Oh, dear! should be reserved for amusing, surprising or appallingly ignorant errors.

by Anonymousreply 80February 8, 2021 10:57 AM

I've never 'Oh, dear' ed anybody. I find it a bit petty.

by Anonymousreply 81February 8, 2021 11:59 AM

R81 that means your parents did a good job raising you.

by Anonymousreply 82February 8, 2021 12:08 PM

by Anonymousreply 83February 8, 2021 12:12 PM

People should have fear when posting here. They should fear any spelling mistake or grammar issue. This should be policed very closely. No exceptions. If English isn’t your first language, I’d suggest you just lurk. No excuses.

by Anonymousreply 84February 8, 2021 12:31 PM

R84 Unless you bought DL from Mediapolis eat shit and die!

Can't we all just get along?!

by Anonymousreply 95February 8, 2021 2:24 PM

R104 Functionally it surpasses DL, no Prime Time, especially random and weeks at a time, easy to track threads and get alerts, few issues with multimedia postings, you actually get to know posters, but the only thing is it’s very sex centrist with hardly any arts, entertainment, politics and topical news discussions.

by Anonymousreply 107February 8, 2021 3:24 PM
It is so mild Jurgens wants the formula.

R107 I think you mean sex-centric rather that sex-centrist...

by Anonymousreply 109February 8, 2021 3:37 PM

DL doesn't have an edit function. Right after I post comments, sometimes I discover a spelling error or words inappropriately changed via auto-correct on the Smartphone. Usually, I will correct the error in a follow-up post though most people will recognize what was intended. I am not fond of people making an issue about a typo or two. Mistakes happen.

by Anonymousreply 110February 8, 2021 4:16 PM

Here's the thing -- just about every browser and app has some sort of spell-check function. Mine shows potentially misspelled words underlined in red, so I know to double-check those to make sure they're correct. I'm an eldergay and even I know how to use spell-check--so why doesn't everyone?

Note: My browser has "eldergay" underlined in red (of course.)

by Anonymousreply 111February 8, 2021 4:30 PM

OP here......ummm....where do I start?

Let me start out by saying that I dearly love the "Oh Dear"queens. I feel deeply indebted to them since my English has markedly improved since I joined the DL (do you say "The DL" or just "DL"?) I am a fairly recent immigrant to the U.S. and I work in academia. I would have constantly embarrassed myself had I continued to use "it's" instead of "its", or "Ioose" instead of "lose".

I started this threat as a parody of the "I loathe the 'Let's be' troll" thread. Little did I know that I would hit a nerve. You never know with DL. I have started other, much more sophisticated, threads that fizzled after 4 replies. This is my personal record. More than 111 replies! Thank you DL!!!

Btw., I agree with R19 that that my parody seemed hardly subtle and that I was l overdoing it a bit. But "loath" instead of "loathe" was unintentional. I swear!

by Anonymousreply 112February 8, 2021 5:12 PM

It is our duty to make DL an educational experience.

by Anonymousreply 113February 8, 2021 5:14 PM

There are so many people on DL for whom English is not their first language -- and yet their English spelling and grammar skills are often superior to those of native English speakers. I applaud them, and feel guilty if I slap an "oh, dear" on one of their posts.

by Anonymousreply 114February 8, 2021 5:47 PM

What I find particularly appalling is how this policing must be making people who are ESL uncomfortable about posting for fear of messing up grammar, spelling or idioms, and those are exactly the people and the voices we need here balancing out the conversation.

by Anonymousreply 115February 8, 2021 6:17 PM

Mean-spirited, insufferable old queens who think they are being cute by saying "old, dear" is rather pathetic. State the correction for the error if you are consumed with such. Everyone that knows you are aware you are prissy. You don't need to convince strangers.

by Anonymousreply 116February 8, 2021 6:18 PM

You know, I was the kid who at the end of class would remind the teacher that she promised to give us homework that night, this is ten times worse.

by Anonymousreply 117February 8, 2021 6:23 PM

A social media website that has conversing about eating-out assholes, scat, being showered with urine, farts, de-humanizing transgenders, fantasiziing about getting fucked by murderers and terrorists, insults over draining spaghetti, "let's be" silliness, someone's pussy/poosie smell, Instagram show-offs, rent boys, predicting deaths of living celebrities, having ignorant ESTs galore, Joel, Erna, etc.; doesn't need obsession about spelling errors as a top concern.

by Anonymousreply 118February 8, 2021 6:58 PM
Funny how these oh dear pissy queens aren't on any other forums. Reddit would delete them immediately.

Which is why DL is head and shoulders above those sites.
What I find particularly appalling is how this policing must be making people who are ESL uncomfortable about posting for fear of messing up grammar, spelling or idioms,

Why would anyone not post out of fear? That’s laughable.

And if I was on a message board in another language that wasn’t my first and someone corrected me and said “it’s not bueno, it’s buena because...” I would sincerely appreciate it and see it as a learning opportunity.

by Anonymousreply 122February 8, 2021 7:17 PM

R31 But you don't correct the person's grammar, you just write oh, dear. How will that teach us anything? Not everyone here is from an English speaking country.

by Anonymousreply 123February 8, 2021 7:25 PM
and someone corrected me and said “it’s not bueno, it’s buena because...”

Except explaining the grammar or spelling mistake isn't happening. It's just a stupid 'Oh, dear'.

by Anonymousreply 124February 8, 2021 7:27 PM

I always thought the idea was if you were oh, deared, you’d reread what was quoted and catch it.

If you still weren’t sure you could say “R-whoever, why the oh, dear?”

Certain obvious typos or autocorrect errors shouldn’t be given this treatment. Apple’s autocorrect is fucking up a lot lately, such as changing so to do for no reason. But if you type “we went to they’re house for dinner,” that’s not a typo or autocorrect. By the same token, if you type direa for diarrhea, or should of instead of should have, that should easily be called out.
I started this threat as a parody of the "I loathe the 'Let's be' troll" thread.

I suspected as much, and it's pretty funny especially since that other thread fizzled out relatively quickly, while this one is still going strong with the back-and-forth fighting.

The grammar trolls can help, if they actually explain the error. I know I now use "who" vs "that" and "less" vs "fewer" correctly, because of them.

by Anonymousreply 126February 8, 2021 7:36 PM

Unlike those lower-class sites, we have STANDARDS here!

by Anonymousreply 127February 8, 2021 7:36 PM

I found out through an oh dear the correct spelling of “just deserts.” I had no idea it wasn’t just desserts and asked the person who did it. Looked it up and was stunned.

by Anonymousreply 128February 8, 2021 7:36 PM

Me too. Though I still sometimes have trouble with we/us.

by Anonymousreply 129February 8, 2021 7:38 PM

r129 The easiest way to remember when to use we vs. us is to replace the word with "I" or "me." If "I" works, then it should be "we." If "me" works, then it should be "us."

by Anonymousreply 130February 8, 2021 7:55 PM

Oh, wow. Thanks, r130!

by Anonymousreply 131February 8, 2021 8:14 PM

If any Oh, Dear queens see an error in my future posts, please respond to myself.

by Anonymousreply 132February 8, 2021 8:19 PM

And it inexplicably GRATES my nerves so severely.

I always wonder whatever happened to the word “me.”

by Anonymousreply 133February 8, 2021 8:49 PM

U old bitchez are NUTZZ with the spelling! Cum on ovr to Reddit we'll lite up ur livez over there bro. Peace.

by Anonymousreply 134February 8, 2021 8:53 PM

I'm tired of the Oh, Dear troll's to. I seen them put there Oh, Dear's all over even when the post is alright.

by Anonymousreply 135February 8, 2021 8:55 PM

The oh dear queens are the same sad old queens who are huddled up in their hoarded apartments watching their VHS tapes of Dynasty and Designing Women for the millionth time. I pity them.

by Anonymousreply 136February 8, 2021 8:57 PM

; vs , Just teach me ! ( sobbing)

by Anonymousreply 137February 8, 2021 9:00 PM
Oh that's right, you're terrified.

Do you seriously believe this nonsense? I cannot believe you people are so traumatized by two little words.

by Anonymousreply 138February 8, 2021 9:21 PM

R136, named Chet or Brandon, is too poor to afford an actual computer, so he constantly misspells words on DL and Grindr. This makes him angry.

Chet or Brandon is 28 but looks 37 with his post-hipster scraggly beard. the ski cap collection doesn't help.

Chet or Brandon considers himself a coffee connoisseur, but can't spell the word.

R136, named Chet or Brandon, texted his mom for more money, since for some reason, those nasty eldergays won't hire him, since his resume is bland and has four typos.

Chet or Brandon, aka R136, is a dumbass who wears a facemask below his nose.

by Anonymousreply 139February 8, 2021 9:21 PM

(R136) Just joking, btw.

by Anonymousreply 140February 8, 2021 9:23 PM
Chet or Brandon considers himself a coffee connoisseur, but can't spell the word.

Coffee or connoisseur?

by Anonymousreply 141February 8, 2021 9:26 PM

both.
What part of "pointless bitchery" do you babies not understand?

R91, the Gen Ass babies are butt-hurt about their illiteracy being exposed. They're mostly coddled narcissistic sociopaths who cannot differentiate reality from TikTok. This is their reality. Sad creatures.

I want to dedicate this thread to our friend, The Evening Punctuationist and his friend, Randolf.

Rest In Peace dear sir.

by Anonymousreply 144February 8, 2021 10:17 PM

r143 as has been explained DL is a quick typing, random thought place. We go through our spelling and grammar where it matters.

by Anonymousreply 145February 9, 2021 12:30 AM

r139 = butthurt old queen who is going to console himself by watching his VHS tapes of The Love Boat and Days Of Our Lives tonight.

by Anonymousreply 146February 9, 2021 12:33 AM
R135: I'm tired of the Oh, Dear troll's to.

Oh, dear.

by Anonymousreply 147February 9, 2021 10:06 AM

It’s part of the DNA Of this forum. Like being scolded by a caring aunty. I don’t mind being called out for my shitty grammatical errors and neither should you.

by Anonymousreply 148February 9, 2021 10:14 AM
watching his VHS tapes of The Love Boat and Days Of Our Lives tonight.

Wait. Days Of Our Lives is now available on VHS?

Oh YEAH!!

Do you have to hashtag or something to buy it?

by Anonymousreply 149February 9, 2021 10:49 AM

Dear, oh.

by Anonymousreply 150February 9, 2021 10:54 AM
being scolded by a caring aunty

They aren't caring, their nasty behavior has been displayed on this thread. It's mostly bitter people who get a thrill from being obnoxiously pedantic.

by Anonymousreply 151February 9, 2021 2:32 PM

They're just loser cunts. Kind of like the soap thread people.

by Anonymousreply 152February 17, 2021 7:10 AM

It's true that all the good people of the elder generation died of AIDS. The dregs are what's left. Just look at DL.

by Anonymousreply 153February 17, 2021 7:12 AM

The "Oh, Dear" trolls deserve to be mocked for their pendantry.

by Anonymousreply 154February 28, 2021 12:19 AM

Just put them on block. If you look at their posting history, you'll see that oh dearing is mostly all they do. You won't miss anything.
