The history of America's various groups should be part of the years general US history lessons.

Oh, if only that's what they meant, R15. But no. They just want to teach white-washed, white-supremacist history. Nothing else. They want to erase minorities -- ALL minorities -- from the lessons. And they HATE it when they feel compelled to acknowledge that history is about more than just white people being all superior to everyone else.

It probably stems from the fact that the state is a rightwing place with basically no black people — 1% of the population.

If it were a liberal state like Vermont they never would have tried this, even though there are also basically no black people there either.

Every time I find out a black person invented something or did something wonderful it makes my blood boil because I had never heard of them before because white men only taught about other white men. My grandfather used to barnstorm with Lindberg and he had 5 different pilot licenses to fly various planes. My father was a pilot and instructor who also knew how to fly various planes but not once did I ever hear of Bessie Coleman until I learned about her 5 years ago when I was looking something up. She was the first African-American woman and first Native-American to hold a pilot license. She got her license in 1921. I have learned about so many that have invented things like the traffic light, etc. . It really makes me sad.

R35, I hope you are not trying to correlate low rates of violent crime with an absence of black people. There are very few out gay people there too. Would you suggest that is the reason for the low crime rate? People of color, LGBTQ people, and non Mormons are ostracized in Utah. In any case, I suspect that the strict religion and judgemental culture keeps a lot of people away from drugs and alcohol (they have really strict laws about alcohol sales). Addiction breeds violent crime.

School children should be FORCED to do this optional subject!

And they should be FORCED to do Home Economics, Latin, Youtube Sluttery, Asian History, Callisthenics, Transvestitism, Alternative Religions, Polynesian History, English Grammar, etc etc,

You can buy booze anywhere in Utah, it's like any other state.
