Does anybody else here have a problem with chronic gas?
I've had this for about three years now. I get an uncomfortable, bloated feeling accompanied by a lot of belching. Fortunately, not flatulence. The bad times are usually mornings and late evenings. It doesn't matter whether I've eaten or if my stomach is empty, burp, burp, and more burps. I hardly ever get heartburn and indigestion even less.
I have been checked out by a doctor and had blood tests and stool tests. Everything checks out. I do remember my father always complained about gas when he got to my age (55) and he'd drink glasses of water with a teaspoon of baking soda stirred in. I've not used any OTC meds or antacids because I'm afraid my body might build up a tolerance but I'm ready to give it a go. Any recommendations? Or suggestions about home remedies. I do walk a lot but I don't want to go out after 10 since it gets isolated and we have a lot of weird homeless around.

I should mention that I modified my diet and cut out most dairy.

Gerd? I burp constantly now but not naturally. it's like my body forgot how to burp. I take symethicone, especially before bed. plus probiotics for reducing bloat andbgas.

Look for the usual suspects (if the dairy cut doesn't work) and eliminate them for a week.

That sounds like GERD. Have you seen a gastroenterologist? They know a lot more than a non-specialist like a GP or internist.
For a non-medical visit potential solution, I recommend lansoprazole. It's OTC at 15mg a day. But prescription strength is 30mg daily, not 15mg, so take two 15mg capsules in the morning a half hour or so before you eat anything. Try that for at least 4 weeks. If it doesn't help you at all in that time, then it probably isn't going to, but it might be worth a try.

Try eating a little kefir with every meal. It's like yogurt but a bit more liquid consistency. Very effective for me.

No acid reflux or heartburn. Just the pesky gas and belching. Fortunately, I work from home.

r5 I'm a kefir user too. I prefer the plain variety because the fruit ones have a lot of sugar in them. Oh that's right, excuse me, not sugar, "expressed cane juice."
OP: I can recommend Beano™, that stuff works a treat. Depending on how much gas-producing food you'll be eating at any one time(you'll figure out the right amount once you've used it for awhile), more than one pill might be necessary. One word of caution: if you're allergic to seafood, be aware that several kinds of fish are in the ingredients list.

Do the Whole 30 diet. When you get to the phase where you start reintroducing certain food groups, you’ll figure out which ones are causing the problems.

I have this very hippy shrink originally from San Francisco and she thinks that energy is stored in various parts of the body like the stomach. When I am in therapy, I'll focus while telling some kind of painful memory and then a belch will rise up, releasing the energy. Now I belch all the time b/c it's in my head.

r10 My Italian grandmother, who was consumed with the state of her digestive system, always had a big bottle of Brioschi on hand. The bottle(BITD, it was blue glass) stood on a little shelf on a wall in the 'powder room.' One day the shelf got jostled, the bottle fell into the toilet, broke and a big, frothy 'cushion' formed in the bowl, foamed up and almost onto the floor. Took several flushes to get rid of it all, but at least the air smelled lemon-y fresh.

I fart constantly. Its really bad tonight because of all the chili and bean dip I ate at my superbowl party. I keep farting long smelly farts every couple of minutes. My bed stinks.

Keep a diary of foods that seem to set you off OP. For many people, it's onions or members of the onion family, like garlic, shallots or leeks. For others, certain kinds of beans or legumes are deadly. Some people react to peppers. Lots of people are sensitive to sugars and others to wheat (gluten). Some people can't digest anything from the cabbage family - broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, collard greens, kale. Sometimes you have to eliminate a particular food for a week to see if you have improvement without that food. You could do this with any food you suspect of causing problems, eliminating a food group one at a time. For me, the only food that results in painful gas is raw onions. I avoid raw onions all all costs and pick them out of salads, where they lurk for the unsuspecting all the time. If combined with beans as in raw onions mixed into bean dip, that's a true recipe for digestive disaster.. Cooked onions are much less problematic. I also avoid fresh milk. Even the thought makes my stomach heave, so I take that as a sign that my body doesn't want to consume it. Yogurt and cheese are just fine. Non-painful gas is part of being a living being, and you have to accept it. Usually it is not particularly odiferous.

R9 lmao.
The late Louise Hay, goddess of Fibro Frauen, said that reflux was caused by crippling fear and anxiety as well as a refusal to ‘digest’ life experiences. She recommended affirmations, such as “I am safe from harm, all is well, I am where I am meant to be” etc.
