Mine's a simple (but great) pastrami on rye from Katz's or Carnegie Deli. Either is fantastic.
What's your favorite deli sandwich?

Used to love meatloaf on lightly toasted rye with Russian dressing and shredded lettuce from Eisenberg’s.
And a chocolate egg cream.

To the OP -
I can feel my arteries hardening just LOOKING at that picture...

Smoked turkey, Swiss, horseradish, light Mayo.
I also used to enjoy a meatloaf on ciabatta bread with thick bacon and an onion relish, sold by a place in NYC called Wichcraft. So good.
Also grilled cheese, hot and crisp, with tomato soup.

Reuben. There was a Jewish restaurant that prepared great Reubens. Since it closed, there are no decent Reubens to be found. I can’t even find corned beef.

Turkey club on rye toast! Extra points for avocado.

I'm with OP. Hard to beat a good pastrami on rye with horseradish.

When I could get them, muffuletta sandwiches (or really quarter sandwiches). Sadly I'd have to drive at least 70 miles to get one nowadays.
Back in my college days a local bakery also offered sandwiches, and the steamed roast beef and cheddar (with mustard and lettuce) on a fresh croissant was out of this world. The owner closed the place down when she retired and I've never found any that tasty again.
For just regular delis, I'd say club sandwiches on white toast with honey mustard instead of mayo.

Italian deli: chicken cutlet, roasted red pepper, fresh mozzarella and either balsamic dressing or pesto on a roll.
Jewish deli: turkey pastrami, with coleslaw and mustard on rye.

Pastrami and Swiss on seeded rye, grilled.
With Stuffed Cabbage soup and a Dr. Brown's Black Cherry soda, if we're rounding out the meal.
From F&M Deli in Cherry Hill, NJ. I hope they're still in business, they're on my bucket list once this corona mishigas is over.

I like the taste of freshly cut succulent meat, nestled between two pieces of sour dough bread. Never mind the bread. Just the juicy red, bloody meat.

I'm "nuts on rye"

1. Chopped liver on pumpernickel
2. Pastrami on rye
either with a cup of good matzo ball soup and kosher dill pickle

A classic Reuben from Izzy's, with a latke on the side.

Meatball on a crusty hoagie roll with sauce and provolone.

r7 - Any sandwich on a croissant is an abomination. Croissants aren't designed to be used as bread for a sandwich.

I love chicken salad or tuna salad on a croissant.

I feel very sorry for the folks who can’t get corned beef or pastrami from their deli counter.
A few months ago, I met a friend for a cocktail and NYC law decrees that you must order food in order to sit and have a drink. So she suggested we split a Reuben. It had been eons since I’d had one and it was SO GOOD.
They’re fairly easy to make at home, so I’ve made them twice. It’s mostly keto-friendly, and will allow myself a thin slice of seeded rye, because that makes it.

Oh, I miss the Sloppy Joes from the Millburn Deli.
