What's amusing is that you're such a fool you need proof he's an asshole, when that's been made abundantly clear, as evidenced by Washington telling Will Smith not to kiss a man on film, something I also remember and R16 does, too.

The fact that Denzel Washington has his own opinion on law enforcement aggravates our resident racists, so they bring up shit that has nothing to do with the topic at hand. Btw, O.J. Simpson was also hotter & far more handsome actor than Denzel. As are many. Others. Someone here is very upset that we've cancelled Denzel. He was cancelled long ago. His reputation as a jerk Diva asshole is well known. He's not just a womanizer, he's a vindictive one. Fake pious asshole.

I like Denzel as an actor. He was much better when he was younger (Cry Freedom, Glory, The Mighty Quinn, Mississippi Masala) but around the late '90s/early '00s he started to become very predictable.
The rumors of infidelity of swirled for years, as well as the rumor of him forcing his wife to stop her music career (although she did sing a song for the Philadelphia soundtrack).
I, also, will not forget the advice he gave Will Smith, which was also around the time he starred in Philadelphia, where he played - ha - a homophobic lawyer.
I've also heard rumors of his asshole behavior on film sets.
As for that quote, if it was for The Taking of Pelham 123, that was almost 20 years ago. His views could have changed.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | February 4, 2021 4:27 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 60 | February 4, 2021 5:00 AM |
Does Denzel say that it’s ok for cops to shoot black people at the drop of a hat while being very cautious and forgiving of white people who are doing exactly the same thing?
Because BLM says that’s wrong and should stop. That’s their basic point. Why does he disagree?
by Anonymous | reply 61 | February 4, 2021 5:00 AM |
Of course he respects and likes law enforcement.
Denzel is a black movie star. An a lister. Every fucking cop in America who has ever pulled Denzel or his driver over, are gonna be cool AF to Denzel, no matter if they’re good cops or weekend Klansmen.
Truth, and you all know it.
It’s like pulling Tom Hardy over. No one is gonna end up shot because they are adored and respected public figures.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | February 4, 2021 5:02 AM |
R61 that so disingenuous that it comes across as flat out lying. There is no one “basic point” of BLM and the many marches that involved screams of “Kill the Cops” showed that, as did the poorly framed Defund the Police slogan. So if BLM only stands for getting rid of bad cops, there should be nothing wrong with him saying he respects the work good cops do.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | February 4, 2021 5:11 AM |
I think a harm of the George Floyd stuff of last year is that people like R61 come away with the idea that cops are shooting black people randomly and white folks get off free. The majority of the black people you've heard of getting shot/killed were in a poor, crime-ridden milieu where encounters with the cops can end badly--for whites too (you just don't hear about them). Of course there are racist cops, but it's wrong to think that cops are patrolling looking for black people to kill.
Supporting BLM is a good way for white people to feel good about themselves for being anti-racist while ignoring the much more difficult and important issue--ending multi-generational poverty.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | February 4, 2021 5:37 AM |
Um, r63, talking about being so disingenuous that it comes across as flat out lying ....
by Anonymous | reply 65 | February 4, 2021 5:53 AM |
r64, you need to look no further than the difference between the police response to the capital building attack and the police response in the same general location to (peaceful) BLM protests to see that the "idea" is more than an idea, it's a fact.
And that's not the only evidence. Far from it. With the advent of smartphone videos, there are countless examples of cops shooting or otherwise brutalizing black men that can be watched side by side with videos of police being very calm and patient with white people behaving far, far worse.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | February 4, 2021 5:58 AM |

R66, counterfactuals like "if the Trumpists had been black" are meaningless.
Smartphone videos of cops being nice to whites and bad to blacks don't prove anything except what happened in those situations. Have you seen the smartphone videos of cops being bad to whites? (Google Tony Timpa.) It's easy to shape a narrative.
I don't care about BLM or systemic racism or microaggressions. A lot of people of African ancestry are stuck in multi-generational poverty and live in neighborhoods with few opportunities for advancement, lots of guns and crime and thus lots of opportunities for high-risk encounters with the police. Solutions to these problems are what's needed. (I advocate for more socialism, less Robin DiAngelo.)

Lots of black celebrities and sports stars have many million dollars. Denzel is one of very few who has made a point of not identifying with the defining feature of the history of the United States. BLM changed the outcome of the election and emboldened all citizens to fight supremacists and fascists around the world.
Who is richer in money, spirit and activism than Lebron James? He uses his popularity and wealth to promote positive change for POC and victims of injustice and racism. As does most every other black celebrity and sports hero. They have not been able to remain silent. Too much has happened. And kept happening. BLM is not perfect. But it's turned out to be seismic and the most important social movement in 40 years.
Denzel is more like Bill Cosby. In more ways than one. He's an ASS.
Denzel comes on TV to humble brag about his son in football. He doesn't mention the girls at all. Or his wife, except in a weird old fashioned way where he pretends to be afraid of her. He's afraid of her taking his money, telling the truth and leaving him old and ugly. That's all. Their marriage is a lot like Bill and Camille. They want to be white. He doesn't care to be a role model for POC or anyone. He can't speak of acting in any instructive way, though he is quite talented. He gives back nothing. He and his wife reached their goal of being a very rich successful family who are better than you. Naturally he supports the police and military without question. Who's gonna remove the people from his lawn. His kids are all Ivy league and all in "showbiz." Denzel is a success for sure. But he could show more generosity and understanding to all people. Again, he's much like Cosby. Very specific in how he wants to be addressed and seen. His face holds an ugliness that betrays him. There are no perfect families. I used to like Denzel, but he's been an ASS for far too long. The only thing that moves him is his own youthful promise.

I certainly do, R102. The MURDER of UNARMED African Americans by law enforcement in the US is an atrocity which must be eradicated. No question. There's a hell of a lot going on here than meets the eye. Too many dirty cops being covered for by "good" cops which means there aren't any good cops.

If you want to eradicate cops killing unarmed Americans of any race, then eradicate the 2nd Amendment and get these guns off the streets. Because so long as 300 million firearms remain in circulation and easily accessible to criminals, cops will remain paranoid that they’re one mistake away from the bagpipes coming out.

Changing the 2nd Amendment would gets guns of the street as much as making during illegal has gotten drugs off the street. Simple logic like yours is really what perpetuates a lot of the problems we're dealing with, especially when it comes encouraging ridiculous but comforting untruths.

And to everyone who keeps claiming that cops kill blacks more than whites, do your research! While Roland Fryer's study finds that cops may treat blacks more aggressively, blacks are not killed during police interactions at higher rates. Saying otherwise is a convenient dialog, but it's simply not true. Listening to blabber from people like LeBron James & Colin Kaepernick accomplishes 2 things: it shrewdly increases their platforms & it damages the psyche of their community 's children, convincing them that the police are preying upon them. That's just disgusting, undermining a child's confidence. Out of 60M police interactions per year, 1000 ending in a death if the of suspect, and with 14 of them being black, it is reasonable to say that America's police problem is exaggerated. Sure, any involvement with law enforcement ending in a fatality is tragic, but not realizing that a situation with specific factors won't escalate to that level is naive. Fryer's study isn't the only research that demonstrates this, but it is very detailed.

BLM is an openly communist/Marxist organisation, the world saw the senseless riots and destruction that dragged on for months, largely under the BLM/Antifa banner, did any of you?

it's true, they are openly Marxist, I would have laughed at someone a few years ago who threw out the word "commie", but I've seen too much now, sorry

The racists of DL are racing, as always. The whole world is WOKE. Fuck right off fools. R108 post is not lived reality any person not residing in a basement. There's a small and vocal contingent of ancient racist white fags on Datalounge who are nasty and dying creatures. 75 plus. Non basement dwellers. They can't accept that a movement about something more monumental than having a lisp and being bad at sports is of worldwide importance and concern. The whole world took to the streets since Beyonce called it to action 5 years ago. The flags are finally gone - the monuments are falling. The energy of slaves is the greatest of them all. Denzel denies his own people and the world outside his cigar smoking door. His children or grandchildren shall remind him. Or the most random act of our racist society will cut him deep. Keep dying off, racist white fags. You're no more desirable citizens than other deniers, white supremacists or hate mongers.

Find him smug and smarmy: sliding up to non-minorities (read whites) and trashing those of diversity.
In that regard, similar to Bill Cosby. Or as another poster said, an Oreo.
Personally don’t get the appeal of his acting: as it is just as someone above stated “ he’s just playing aspects of himself”. (And they are usually angry, embittered ones.)
This does not even include the rumors of his mendacious private life.
Ideally he would take himself and his nepotistic spawn (who is wooden and talent-free, imho) off the radar.
That includes commenting on extraneous political subjects.
