Team Brie, even though she named herself after cheese or maybe because she named herself after cheese.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | February 2, 2021 3:21 PM |
Geez, she's insufferable.
The Mandalorian had people going ape over the final scene of four women tearing through a star destroyer while Mando went to save the child - THAT is how you do it, not with these insipid proclamations.
People don't hate women characters - they hate bad ones.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 2, 2021 3:21 PM |
Has anyone checked out her YouTube channel? In one of her videos she named all the projects she couldn't get, it was a long list. I thought that was very honest of her.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 2, 2021 3:25 PM |
She’s a YouTuber?…
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 2, 2021 3:26 PM |
She just won an Emmy for something.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 2, 2021 3:28 PM |
the first film was such a non-event that I'm not sure we even need a Captain Marvel 2.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 2, 2021 3:36 PM |
There are 1/5th the number of lesbians as there are gay men, and gay men are how big of a population?
Who is watching these lesbian superhero movies?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 2, 2021 3:39 PM |
She is like a blank slate. Charisma free.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 2, 2021 3:40 PM |
Who is this cunt?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | February 2, 2021 3:43 PM |
Having all females isn't going to change the fact that no one seems to write these movies with good female parts.
More useless virtue signlaing.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | February 2, 2021 3:43 PM |
R7, all women like movies with strong female leads and female supporting casts.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | February 2, 2021 3:48 PM |
Now I want it to be like "The Women."
"This is Captain Carol Danvers. You know, yanked the scalp off that Deathbird woman in the fitting room?"
"Oh yeah. Good for you. I was afraid you were a wet firecracker, sister. Shake."

NOT ALL WOMEN!

Zero star quality.

This movie will be a success!

She's the biggest female box-office star in Hollywood today. She must be doing something right.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 2, 2021 3:53 PM |
They should have a potential male love interest. Just like in male-centric films, there's often a beautiful supporting actress who isn't given much to do except be a trophy for the male lead. Turn the tables and do that here. Hire a young male actor to be a potential male love interest for the lead actress. Make sure he's good looking. Some of the female viewers (and gay male viewers) might enjoy some eye candy. Have the female lead save his ass a few times. Maybe she hooks up with him. But in the end, she can be ambivalent towards him. She doesn't NEED him; she can go on being a hero with or without him.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 2, 2021 3:56 PM |
R17, agreed. Good idea.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | February 2, 2021 3:57 PM |
I slogged through the first one because I saw it in a theater and at least it was air-conditioned. I have no interest in a sequel. I find her a rather bland actress.
But I hated the first Wonder Woman and liked the sequel, so you never know.

LOL - SHE isn't a star - Captain Marvel is the one drawing people in.
Yvonne Strahovski, Natalie Dormer, and Katheryn Winnick would all have done at least as good a job, if not better because none of them would have outright alienated co-stars and audiences with insufferable interviews. The movie would have done bigger box office because none of them would have pissed off audiences with Heigl-like levels of being insufferable.
If not for recent interviews affirming her position, I would have called, "the Queen is dead. Long live the Queen" when Larson did the press tours for her movie and Avengers.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 2, 2021 4:20 PM |
Brie Larson is much better than everyone you mentioned r20
Gay men aren’t a big population, and lesbians are accepted by most people while gay men aren’t.

[quote]She's the biggest female box-office star in Hollywood today.
What projects has she helmed on her name alone?
And, no, franchises don't count.
What puts her on the level of Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock, and Angelina Jolie?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | February 2, 2021 4:46 PM |
I actually thought Samuel Jackson was the best part of the first one. The Captain Marvel character itself is incredibly boring.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | February 2, 2021 4:49 PM |
R20, Yvonne would have been awesome in the role. She's been great in drama and action/comedy roles.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | February 2, 2021 4:51 PM |
Yvonne would not look right as Captain Marvel.
Also the way she carries herself in every role isn’t a superhero actress.
Sam Jackson WAS the best part of the first.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | February 2, 2021 4:53 PM |
Y’all are so harsh. I like Brie and think she deserved her Oscar.
R16 no, that would be Scarlett Johansson
by Anonymous | reply 26 | February 2, 2021 4:53 PM |
Don’t forget about me r22!!!
by Anonymous | reply 27 | February 2, 2021 4:53 PM |
R26 no, she didn’t. Ronan deserved it for Brooklyn
by Anonymous | reply 28 | February 2, 2021 4:54 PM |
Why hasn't this received the big screen treatment?

R27: Honey your career dried up faster than one of Harvey’s cum stains.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | February 2, 2021 4:57 PM |
Imagine a male actor saying he didn’t want any female leads or a black actor saying no white leads or a white actor saying no blacks. They would be canceled.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | February 2, 2021 4:58 PM |
R31, that’s not the same thing at all. It would be closest to a black actor saying he wanted to make a film with an all black cast.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | February 2, 2021 5:00 PM |
I’m convinced she owes it all to the casting couch. Not particularly talented or attractive. No connections to the business. She even admitted she bombed most of her auditions on her YouTube channel.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | February 2, 2021 5:02 PM |
She’s been in the business her whole life.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | February 2, 2021 5:04 PM |
R11 That doesn't appear to be the case with Marvel. Maybe they aren't actually strong parts?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | February 2, 2021 5:07 PM |
Her films audience was mostly men.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | February 2, 2021 5:08 PM |
*IS* she, though, r16 ?
by Anonymous | reply 38 | February 2, 2021 5:08 PM |
She hates men because she’s a closeted lesbian and her dad was a deadbeat.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | February 2, 2021 5:09 PM |
Katee Sackhoff was right there!
by Anonymous | reply 40 | February 2, 2021 5:30 PM |
God she was so fucking boring as Captain Marvel.
That Tessa Thompson, who played the Valkyrie in "Ragnarok", should have gotten the role if they insisted on going in for another bout of meaningless stunt casting.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | February 2, 2021 5:43 PM |
"The Mandalorian had people going ape over the final scene of four women tearing through a star destroyer while Mando went to save the child - THAT is how you do it, not with these insipid proclamations."
That was totally believable, both in terms of established characters and humanoid nature. Out of all the badass people Mando knows, who would sign up to go on a suicide mission to save a child? Not his fellow bounty hunters back on Navarro!
As for Larson, I wasn't impressed with her performance in the first Captain Marvel film. I mean, I get what she was trying to do with the role, I just think she failed to make it interesting. That was partly her fault, partly the fault of the writers, who yes - have almost completely failed to put interesting female roles into the Marvel Universe. The one exception was Valkyrie in the "Thor" films, she was a hoot! But Captain Marvel has no sense of humor as yet, intentional or not, they need to fix that.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | February 2, 2021 6:48 PM |
I really wonder if they have the nerve to go ahead and make Captain Marvel a lez.
I mean they've already laid the groundwork, shown a woman whose only emotional attachment is to her female best friend, and if they're going with a female-led cast why the hell not bring in a female love interest! That's almost entirely palatable to the PG-viewing mainstream, as long as both women are hot, there's no explicit sex, and males in general aren't bashed.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | February 2, 2021 6:51 PM |
Valkyrie is one of the best female characters in the MCU, and Tessa is a lot of fun as her.
She is underused, however, although I believe she is getting a big role in Portman’s Thor.
Wanda is a very interesting character also, and I actually love what they’re doing with WandaVision.
Some people think it’s a lame homage to years past comedies, but it’s actually very very dark.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | February 2, 2021 6:53 PM |
White female privilege is strong in this one. Fucking cunt.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | February 2, 2021 6:53 PM |
R43 well Marvel did announce we will learn a female superhero is gay in the upcoming movies. People narrowed it down to Captain Marvel or Valkyrie
by Anonymous | reply 46 | February 2, 2021 6:54 PM |
R1 more rind than cheese
by Anonymous | reply 47 | February 2, 2021 7:03 PM |
R16 How many people who bought tickets to Captain Marvel even know her name? My brother loves superhero crap. and I would bet any amount of money he saw that movie multiple times and can't name one of the actors in it.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | February 2, 2021 7:10 PM |
Straight men love seeing attractive women on screen. Gay men love powerful women (just like women singers have large gay followings, so do these women superheroes) .
What are these idiots in this thread trying to say? That men don’t want to see women on screen? Because that is far from the truth.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | February 2, 2021 7:11 PM |
Most people didn’t know her name BEFORE this. Now everyone knows her name.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | February 2, 2021 7:12 PM |
Isn’t Rogue allegedly playing a villain in this? No bueno,
Marie is a queen and a hero. She never intended to actually hurt or depower Carol. If anyone is at fault for what happened to Ms. Marvel, it’s Mystique—and even that is in contention. Anyway, the 1992-4 animated X-MEN series presented this storyline in the best way, no need to retread it.
