It's Black History month!

Amazon Prime Video suggests watching "Coming to America" to celebrate.

Does it seem like to anyone else that it's been Black History month for the past two years?

This will not end well.

by Anonymousreply 1February 2, 2021 3:42 AM

Edgy, OP. So edgy.

by Anonymousreply 2February 2, 2021 3:43 AM

Wait until June - BLM month. It used to be gay Pride month, but that’s over. I don’t think this site cares for Pride very much. I’m curious what June will hold—endless BLM and trans garbage. Oh well.

by Anonymousreply 3February 2, 2021 3:45 AM

R2 I realize that the observation may trigger some people, but it is an apt one. We have been "centering black voices" for awhile now.

by Anonymousreply 4February 2, 2021 3:46 AM

Black History Month matters only if you let it matter.

by Anonymousreply 5February 2, 2021 3:48 AM

R3 I think Pride Month, much like all formerly gay and lesbian organizations, became co-opted by trans rights activists to force "centering trans" in everything. That's why you see the TRAs insisting "black trans lives matter" instead of/alongside "black lives matter", lest trans not be centered in something for five minutes.

by Anonymousreply 6February 2, 2021 3:52 AM

During the spring I made it a point to consume more black media. I loved Insecure, 13th, and Straight Outta Compton. I regularly listen to the Higher Learning podcast, which features Van Lathan and Rachel Lindsay discussing issues affecting the black community. I even made it a point to learn about slavery and Jim Crow, and their lingering effects.

But I'm not going to spend February binging on black culture. I try to appreciate it year round so there's no point in overdoing things for one month.

Has it changed you, R7?

Let's face it - Pride Day/Week/Month is over as we remember them.

Criterion channel added a lot of Black movies. Very woke.

by Anonymousreply 11February 2, 2021 7:31 AM

Damn those black people and bhm

by Anonymousreply 12February 2, 2021 7:39 AM

Good, r9. Assimilate already!

by Anonymousreply 13February 2, 2021 7:41 AM

It’s like we don’t even exist anymore.

🤔.

"Black History Month is here, which means we're diving into big, sticky questions about what exactly it means to be Black. So this week on the show: Who is 'Black enough' for reparations? Because you know...we got some bills to pay."

I'm still waiting for Bald Dude Month. Our trials and tribulations should be honored and celebrated.

by Anonymousreply 17February 3, 2021 1:20 PM

It’s frustrating to me how many white people still have an issue with it. And don’t say last year has anything to do with this because these bullshit racist threads attacking Black History Month have already been showing up every year.

by Anonymousreply 18February 3, 2021 1:23 PM

All my streaming platforms have been pushing "Black Voices" for several months. Now Disney+ has nothing to watch except Princess and the Frog.

by Anonymousreply 19February 3, 2021 1:25 PM

R18 I'm sure it's frustrating when people don't want to give you money just for being black and/or having ancestors hundreds of years ago who were slaves. However, disagreeing with that desire is not "racism".

by Anonymousreply 20February 3, 2021 1:28 PM

It’s funny how no one attacks Jewish Heritage Month or Hispanic Heritage Month or Holocaust Remembrance or Asian Heritage Month any other month.

It’s only black people you have an issue with because you want us to shut up and stay in our place. Fuck you racists.

by Anonymousreply 21February 3, 2021 1:37 PM

You want us to forget our history and heritage “what’s in the past is in the past”, “why does this matter today?” But you wouldn’t dare say any of that shit to a Jewish person.

by Anonymousreply 22February 3, 2021 1:39 PM

OP = Melania Trump

by Anonymousreply 23February 3, 2021 1:39 PM

Watching the entertainment conglomerates get ahead of any criticism of being racist is embarrassing. Every fucking TV show is black now; every awards season movie is a black bottom; every commercial features a mixed race couple. It’s just... beyond.

Overcorrection.

by Anonymousreply 24February 3, 2021 1:45 PM

R21 read the OP. It's been Black History Month for the past two years. Especially last summer, when people were being forced to recite "BLM" by angry crowds at restaurants.

R22 yet no one has said any of those things in this thread. You are complaining about some general strawman argument.

Can we please re-enable primetime? These posters are exhausting.

by Anonymousreply 25February 3, 2021 1:54 PM

R25

I’ve been on this forum for many years. Every year, it’s the same shit. The racists on this forum have always had a problem with Black History Month.

And what a pathetic argument. BLM is a response to tragic current events.

by Anonymousreply 26February 3, 2021 1:58 PM

R26 disagreeing with your bad opinion isn't racist, no matter how often you say the word.

by Anonymousreply 27February 3, 2021 2:01 PM

R18...The offputting aspect about Black History Month is the missed opportunity to celebrate the progress that has actually occured in the black community, and yes, there has been tremendous progress made. The chances to reflect, rejoice & to focus on moving forward are largely ignored. Instead, it's another very concentrated opportunity to whine about how awful it is having to live within the profound disadvantages & violence of being black in America. In reality, getting the prolonged, media & institutionally supported opportunity to bitch to white people while they sit captivated is a pretty big indication that America is a lot more tolerant that given credit. The willingness white people have to listen to black celebrities & millionaires rag about how tough it is to live in a racist America alone indicates that America isn't as racist after all. So no, people aren't adverse to Black History Month because it's about black people, it's probably because it's irritating how it's utilized.

by Anonymousreply 28February 3, 2021 2:02 PM

Instead of all that, here's "Madea Goes to Jail", where all the funny bits are in the trailer.

r28, as long as "tolerating" black people is the goal for people like you and others, than prepare yourself to hear a lot more bitching from black millionaires for years to come.

You sound like a straight person saying they "tolerate" enough gay couples. GTFOOH.

by Anonymousreply 32February 3, 2021 4:53 PM

To R32...I said nothing of simply "tolerating" anyone, as the quotations in your reply to me would indicate. But I fully understand, as people with ideas like yours have no room for other viewpoints & stoop to putting words in other people's mouths to sharpen your own viewpoints. My comment speaks for itself & doesn't need your help. If hearing the black & far left elite who've passed through & over the obstacles they tell you is virtually impossible for you to do empowers you, then enjoy the racism they're selling you. Please.

by Anonymousreply 34February 3, 2021 6:27 PM

R34 really, come on now 🙄

by Anonymousreply 35February 3, 2021 8:50 PM

Black transh livesh matter.

by Anonymousreply 36February 3, 2021 11:43 PM

Why does every month, week or day need to be about something? Pride month does nothing to improve my life or make me “prouder”. It’s exhausting. I’m exhausted.

by Anonymousreply 37February 7, 2021 1:53 PM
It’s funny how no one attacks Jewish Heritage Month or Hispanic Heritage Month or Holocaust Remembrance or Asian Heritage Month any other month.

No one has heard of any one of those, R21.

by Anonymousreply 38February 7, 2021 2:16 PM

R24 the reason for that is because the entertainment industry has swung far-left within the past decade, and we all know that white liberals have immense guilt and self-loathing, which they soothe by having a white savior complex. In short, the casting of blacks in almost everything lately and going overboard with awards is simply Hollywood's (and Broadway's) version of reparations.

Also, the far-left has a mission to end racism, which in itself is a noble quest, but in their eyes that means forcing different races/ethinicities to procreate thereby creating one race over time. If everybody looks the same and is the same shade, they believe this will stomp out racism. That is why they're so hellbent on promoting miscegenation and on shaming people who marry/procreate within their own race . It's propaganda.

Jews don’t commemorate Yom Hashoah by showing [italic]Schindler’s List[/italic] 24 hours a day on TNT.

by Anonymousreply 40February 11, 2021 5:49 AM

R28 the far-left thrives on victimhood. They're a very pessimistic bunch. Always seeing the glass as half-empty. Until two years ago, I used to hang around with a crowd that was ultra-liberal. They're mainly white and I a swarthy Latino was like their token minority friend. They were pretty nice to me, for the most part, but they were always so negative. I'm a naturalized U.S. citizen who has always been optimistic about this country, so it was sometimes uncomfortable hearing them bitch and moan about the country and how terrible it is here and how much they hate white people (even though they're white themselves).

Eventually, I departed because I realized I'm more of a moderate, plus their constant negativity started to take a toll on me. For the several years we were friends, I was rather depressed and began to be fearful of the future. Nowadays, I hang with other moderates and it's a relief, because it's such a positive atmosphere. Also, there is more freedom of speech and independent thought toward the center. With my former friends, I often was afraid to offer an opposing view or to play devil's advocate.
Jewish Heritage Month or Hispanic Heritage Month or Holocaust Remembrance or Asian Heritage Month

When are those months, R21? I never hear about them.

by Anonymousreply 42February 11, 2021 6:20 AM

Calling it “Asian heritage“ is just asking for trouble because those countries are far from homogenous.

by Anonymousreply 43February 11, 2021 8:19 AM
After a group of trans leaders called on Heritage of Pride (HOP) to hand over control of New York City’s Pride festivities to Black and Brown transgender individuals, a planned meeting between the two sides was cancelled — and a bitter controversy flared up.

Hmmm. Interesting development.
