The only way to ovulate was to get something called a period, and menstruation made girls bleed and we had to wear maxi pads.

There is nothing in how boys are raised where they are made to feel sex is special unless they are from a really religious household. Life has put this family in a pretty awful situation but they seem to be getting on with things as best they can. Why should the little boy be put into foster care when he has a family (a grandmother and a father) that loves him and can take care of him?

The little boy and father will grow up to have to have a brotherly relationship. Their age gap is too small for the son to truly see his father as an authority figure. That's why in the past many families would raise the child of a teen parent as a younger sibling.

I think the "father" and son are adorable.

But the dynamic will surely be better than if they were both females.

Female mother/daughters who are close in age are usually competitive and nasty with each other.

All this talk of child rape reminds me of a particularly awful case. In 1989 in Lorton, Va., Tammy Brannen attended a Christmas party at the apartment complex where she lived. Her 5 year old daughter Melissa was with her. Also at the party was a recently hired groundskeeper named Caleb Hughes. He appeared to have been at the party to hook up with a woman; he made several of them uncomfortable by making crude sexual propositions to them. He also paid unusual attention to the children at the party. He bizarrely offered to "take them to the bathroom." He was particularly taken with little Melissa, bringing her a cupcake and telling her she was pretty. When is came time to leave the party, Melissa wanted to get some more potato chips, so Tammy Brannen told her to get some and then they'd leave. Melissa Brannen went to get more potato chips...and never returned. All evidence pointed to Hughes: it took him hours to get home that night even though he lived nearby, he immediately washed his clothes and shoes when he got back and cut out parts of shoes, probably to remove blood evidence. Fibers from Melissa's coat were found in his car. He denied even seeing her at the party, even though witnesses confirmed he was paying attention to her. Melissa Branden was never found. Although Virginia law did not require a body of the victim to file murder charges, the law does require prosecutors to identify the location of the murder. Lacking this evidence, Hughes was charged with kidnapping with intent to defile (i.e., kidnapping as a prelude to sexual assault). He was convicted of abduction and sentenced to 50 years in prison. The jury figured that he would be in his seventies when he got out and his sex drive would be diminished and he wouldn't much pose a threat anymore.

Due to parole laws Caleb Hughes was released from prison after serving 28 years of a 50 year sentence. He's only in his fifties. It's hard to think about, but he obviously kidnapped, had sex with and then murdered five year old Melissa Brannon, disposing of her little body so well that she has never been found. And he's walking around free. Just like this nanny will be walking around free someday. It is very true: evil walks among us.

His mental and physical health kept deteriorating over the years; he died in a nursing home at age 60, a total wreck. I'm sure being raped as child by a female predator contributed to his sad end.
