I'm considering getting groceries delivered. Some stores have their own delivery service. Then there's Instacart and Shipt. I don't know if I want to pay $99 a year or $12.95 a month.
Which one would you recommend?

OP, my experience has been extremely hit or miss. I buy a lot of food, and I find shopping online for groceries to be awkward — once you’ve ordered a product then it shows up in your history, then shopping becomes easier.
Depending on where you live and how busy it is, you may have to place your order days in advance. Then you have to decide your substitutions (or not). I also don’t care for how Amazon/WF had packed things, they include massive ice bags that I have to deal with. Milk seems to be a constant issue, not sure why they’re always out of milk. So.....it isn’t great, but I do think you need to try different companies in your area. The one thing I do admit to loving is scheduling say a 6am delivery, and I wake up to all my fresh groceries waiting for me — it’s awesome. Good luck!

Thanks for the info, R1.

I've used Instacart and Amazon. Both are OK. You got to order enough to make it worth the delivery charge. Do NOT use Peapod.

Target where I live said I can get my groceries today.... I'll check it out.

Unless I’m getting a shit ton of stuff delivered, the price/taxes/fees/tips don’t justify it. I’ve used I stacker and Amazon Fresh and you can count on about $20-$35 worth of markup.
I’d rather strap on three masks and do early morning grocery runs.

^^Instacart and Amazon Fresh.

Instacart has more store options for me, but the customer service is awful! There were always problems with my orders, and I finally decided to never use them again after my last order was delivered to the wrong address and the customer service rep, who was super bored, told me “that happens aaaallll the time!” Then he proceeded to tell me that he was going to find out where my order was delivered and get the food to my address. Thanks, but I don’t want frozen food that’s been sitting in front of someone’s door for 3 hours redelivered to me!
I switched to Shipt after that experience with Instacart and never looked back. The shoppers seem better trained and the 2 times when I had minor issues with my order, customer service was excellent and resolved my issues immediately. Never going back to Instacart.

Target uses Shipt so I may see how that goes.

Pre Covid I was an Instacart fan. Lately it's been hit or miss, rapid expansion means hiring less than stellar employees.

AussieBum They often send the wrong shit so you end up getting free clothes.

I’ve had great luck with curbside pick up using Instacart. No issues and they load the bags into my car. Shopping charge is $1.99.

I have been using Target for my job, and it is *excellent* but I’m not a huge fan of their food, I can’t speak to the quality of produce or selection.
R5 makes a good point, there is indeed a markup. I only used it because of COVID, you have to decide how risky it is for you and if you can afford the uptick. I’m curious, is there anyone here on SNAP? If so, can you get home delivery using your SNAP card? I sincerely hope that’s an option for you too.

I would use whatever delivery service is available at the store you normally shop at. You are use to what they have in stock. Not like you can't change.

I go in person to the grocery stores around me. I did not have much luck with instacart. During the covid lockdown, I had little choice so I had to use instacart sometimes. I was fucked over by costco and amazon during the covid lockdown, so I haven't reinstated anything with them again. When I go to the grocery store, I buy extra items that can be stored in my pantry or frozen, just in case something shuts down again for a week/month. Right now, there are no shortages of produce or really anything in my favorite grocery store. Of course, toilet paper and paper towels are limited. I just buy and add to my apocalypse collection.
I order from a high end bakery/specialty grocery for some items, and they ship.

Yes indeed, we too use "cookies." Take a look at our privacy/terms or if you just want to see the damn site without all this bureaucratic nonsense, click ACCEPT. Otherwise, you'll just have to find some other site for your pointless bitchery needs.
