^"Twink" body, that is. Nice and smooth and well-defined, but not overly muscled up.
Who knew?

So what was up with his death? Was it an accident or did he purposely crash his plane?
I know he became an alcoholic after his fame started to evaporate.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 30, 2021 7:21 PM |
An asshole. Very much disliked by the industry, which is why he had such a short career in movies. He made something of a comeback after a decade or so after Oh, God and maybe he mellowed a bit. Was also very unprofessional.

Fun fact: His real name is Henry Deutschendorf, Jr.

I bet he had a long, uncut dick.

Google John Denver asshole and you'll see lots of entries like this one
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 30, 2021 7:28 PM |
His death was definitely accidental. An ex of mine listened to the recording of his radio (he used to work at a small airport in Monterey) and said he was having some issues with the transponder. The plane was new to him and he didn’t have much experience flying it. Also, his pilot license had been suspended at the time of the crash, due to DUIs he had gotten.

He looked like Cousin Oliver's father.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 30, 2021 7:37 PM |
he did look like Cousin Oliver's father
there were jokes about that at the time when Robbie Rist was finding work
Depending on genes, diet, exercise, some guys can be twink-adjacent into their 30s+
the eyes will always be a giveaway tho

I have a friend whose parents were in the same circles in Colorado that John Denver was in, and according to my friend Denver was a drunken asshole. Lots of people disliked him.

R10 I remember John Denver had a summer replacement variety series in the 70s and Robbie Rist made a couple of appearances playing up the resemblance between the two.

I remember Pauline Kael pointed out that his haircut made him look in that movie like he did not have ears.

R6 He definitely was uncut, tabloids apparently confirmed it.

Okay, bitches, I was a 22-year old low level flunkie production person on "Oh, God." It was my first job on an actual movie, and I was thrilled to be a part of it. Being part of a production with legends Carl Reiner and George Burns? It didn't get much better than that. I had the lowest of low jobs - making sure the dolly tracks were all clamped down properly, putting black tape on objects to reduce camera flare, making sure everything was plugged in, etc. I rarely got close to the stars. My job involved getting everything set up for a scene. As soon as filming started, I was off to set up the next scene, so I didn't get to see a lot of on-camera stuff.
I rarely got close to the stars, but I did escort George Burns to set one day and helped him navigate all the wires and crap all over the floor so he wouldn't fall down and break a hip. He was a really nice man - very down to earth and friendly. Tiny as hell.
I was on set during one of the early movie scenes where John Denver and Terri Garr were in the bedroom. John did have a nice body, and I admit I found him kind of sexy in a nerdy way. I never witnessed any asshole behavior from him, though I admit I was rarely around him during production. If anything, I actually got a sense that he was a bit nervous, being as it was his first movie. He seemed to take direction well.
I'm sure his ego grew after this movie, as did his alcohol and drug problem, but I noticed none of this in my experience.

I saw Denver, back in 1991, in the backseat of a limo; he was actually a handsome man in person.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 31, 2021 12:47 PM |
He was dorky even by 1970's standard. I know I was there. You old queens are hard up as fuck.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 31, 2021 12:55 PM |
If he was such a difficult person, maybe that's why his first wife divorced him.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 31, 2021 1:29 PM |
R7 I love this article.
"One person who seems to be hurting less than the others is the sound technician, James Cech, who worked with Denver on a Florida tour in 1992. I asked him if he realised he was the only person in the room who actually knew the late star.
"Yeah, he was a real asshole," Cech replied. "He didn't feed the crew, and he wouldn't give us water. I don't know about all this 'love' crap. Let's just say he was a difficult artist to work for."
Comments about Denver do not get more tender as you move closer to the people who knew him best. In Aspen, outside the town's annual celebration, he tends to provoke lukewarm reactions - which might explain why the celebration is organised largely by outsiders."

Not bad, but 34 is a bit too old to be a Twink, don’t you agree?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 31, 2021 2:37 PM |
I did a report on him for my 6th grade English class. I don’t remember much about him but the biography in our textbook didn’t mention anything about his dark side.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 31, 2021 2:38 PM |
Reminds me a bit of Mark Hamill.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 31, 2021 2:49 PM |
He always resembled a lesbian tennis player. Small muscular frame, dyke haircut.
Not cute at all.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 31, 2021 2:51 PM |
His music was a panacea for the rock n roll madness and excess of the 70s. It was spiritual and lovely. Rocky Mountain High is my favorite song of his.
Sounds like he wasn’t t a very nice person though and of course a horrible way to die.

ditto.

How many of you remember the TV movie?
Chad Lowe as John....and whatsersnatch from Sex and the City as...wife #2, I think?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 31, 2021 2:58 PM |
If Denver were alive today, He'd be a Trump supporter, member of his rough neck back woods militia.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 31, 2021 3:07 PM |
When he got divorced and married the trophy wife, Denver got contacts and let up on the bleach and got a real hairstyle. He must have thought he was a movie star...still a nerd.
What was the story that Streisand made a public comment about artists not playing in Colorado because of their strict anti-gay laws? She suddenly got all full of gay rights when her son came out. John Denver was on TV - drunk as hell - blasting her. Of course Streisand retracted and rephrased her comment after.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 31, 2021 3:15 PM |
What an idiotic thing to say, r28. Denver was a very strong advocate for the Democratic Party and a fierce critic of Reaganism.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 31, 2021 3:47 PM |
It was known that at his concerts, he didn't allow anyone to leave their seats because he said it distracted him. No bathroom breaks, no concession breaks.

I wonder how he would've been with cell phones.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 31, 2021 5:42 PM |
He was really annoying,. Like many male celebrities (John Travolta, Harrison Ford, John-John Kennedy), he was fascinated with flying. He wanted to be made an astronaut because of his celebrity status. in the late 80s he even testified about it before some sort of congressional committee and performed a song about his desire to go into space to them.
Then of course he died while flying a private plane, which to me demonstrated they were right not to make him an astronaut.

His body was so pulverized that they had to pick up the pieces in garbage bags. Most of his head was never found.

This brings back many cringy memories from my youth. I used to be friends with a closeted republican dyke who loved his corny songs. She used to play her JD tape and at the moment of rapture she would close her eyes and wave her hands as if conducting an orchestra. Her “boyfriend” at the time was also a fan. I remember him serenading my female room mate one evening with an impromptu acoustic concert of JD’s greatest hits.

He had a lovely Irish tenor and great cheekbones.
I'd have done him.

R29's photo is the first I've seen where he's attractive to me. Ditching his lame 70s haircut, glasses, and down vest made for a great make-over.

John Denver was bi-polar. That explains a lot. His father had no clue and was extremely hard on him.
I liked some of his songs. He had a very unique sound/voice and wrote almost everything he sang. He wasn't a fake.
He did use his celebrity to try to improve hunger in the world and the environment. Think of the celebs that just sit on their ass, milk some songwriter's talent, and count their money. At least he tried to make a difference.
