Why Are Lemons More Popular Than Limes?

I think it has something to do with homosexuals.

by Anonymousreply 50January 31, 2021 10:18 PM

When life gives you lemons, exchange them for limes.

by Anonymousreply 1January 29, 2021 7:37 PM

Lemon and lime taste completely different, but they're often compared to one another.

Lemon tastes so much better in cold water and iced tea than lime.

by Anonymousreply 2January 29, 2021 7:38 PM

I’m not sure that’s true, OP, since limes are much more versatile.

by Anonymousreply 3January 29, 2021 7:40 PM

Lemons put out more easily.

by Anonymousreply 4January 29, 2021 7:41 PM

I've found they're both popular depending on the context.

by Anonymousreply 5January 29, 2021 7:41 PM

Why is it called Lemonparty and not Limeparty?

by Anonymousreply 6January 29, 2021 7:43 PM

There's no lemon disease but there is Lyme disease. So.

by Anonymousreply 7January 29, 2021 7:45 PM

I prefer lime, and things flavored with lime, more than lemon.

by Anonymousreply 8January 29, 2021 7:46 PM

Team Lemon all the way.

Limes are the wimps of the citrus family.

by Anonymousreply 9January 29, 2021 7:47 PM

LimeWire!!!

by Anonymousreply 10January 29, 2021 7:47 PM

Lemon flavored things are wholesome. Lime is used mostly by lushes.

by Anonymousreply 11January 29, 2021 7:47 PM

and in Mexico its really confusing as LIMON means lemon or lime ,but more than likely, lime ,as that what they use in everything.

by Anonymousreply 12January 29, 2021 7:52 PM

I use both interchangeably, but there are certain things I will be more likely to use one in than another, like lime in guacamole. They really are an excellent, yet simple way of making a dish that is otherwise bland become exciting.

by Anonymousreply 13January 29, 2021 7:54 PM

Lime gives some depth to poultry while lemon seems to sit on top if that makes sense. Lemon is better for salmon, but I prefer vinegar.

by Anonymousreply 14January 29, 2021 7:55 PM

It seems like lemon has a more neutral flavor that combines with a wider variety of foods.

by Anonymousreply 15January 29, 2021 7:56 PM

Lemons remind us of sunshine and daffodils. Limes remind us of rotting flesh and pond scum.

by Anonymousreply 16January 29, 2021 7:57 PM

I think lemon is more versatile—lime just reminds you that you could be having a margarita.

I use so much lemon I wish I could buy it squeezed, like orange juice.

by Anonymousreply 17January 29, 2021 7:57 PM

Mmm, R14. I'm so partial to vinegar. Growing up when we had fish and chips I would always use malt vinegar on them. It wasn't until I was an adult that I found out nearly every other kid grew up putting tomato sauce on theirs. I still prefer my way.

by Anonymousreply 18January 29, 2021 7:57 PM

Lemons are more expensive. Two for $1.

by Anonymousreply 19January 29, 2021 8:04 PM

Woe, you can literally start a thread about anything and get replies.

by Anonymousreply 20January 29, 2021 8:07 PM
I use so much lemon I wish I could buy it squeezed, like orange juice.

It’s sold in the US. Odwalla was available locally until they went belly up due to covid.

Adding lemon juice to pastry flour makes a decent vegan cake. It’s not what I’m aiming for, but it uses up pastry flour.

by Anonymousreply 21January 29, 2021 8:07 PM

MinuteMaid used to sell frozen lemon juice, but I haven't seen it in years. You can freeze your own, though. That's what I do when I have extra lemons.

Limes don't have seeds -- so how do they reproduce?

by Anonymousreply 22January 29, 2021 8:25 PM

It's the alphabet.

by Anonymousreply 23January 29, 2021 8:35 PM

I prefer lemon in my G&T to lime.

by Anonymousreply 24January 29, 2021 8:37 PM

I think it’s just the opposite for homersexuals.

by Anonymousreply 25January 29, 2021 8:39 PM

Size matters.

by Anonymousreply 26January 29, 2021 9:01 PM

Lemons are less sweet and are therefore more versatile, and go in a lot of savory dishes. Lemons go better with chicken and fish than limes do, and can go over vegetables in sauces like lemon butter, or be part of a salad dressing.

Limes (and oranges) are mainly used for sweet dishes.

by Anonymousreply 27January 29, 2021 9:33 PM

Why are apples so much more popular than pears?

by Anonymousreply 28January 29, 2021 9:56 PM
Lemon and lime taste completely different, but they're often compared to one another.

Sweetie-darling, that's apples to oranges.

Compare? More like combine. Lemon-lime drinks, also known colloquially as lemonade in the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand and as cider in Japan and Korea, are carbonated soft drinks with lemon and lime flavoring. Popular brands include Sprite, 7 Up, and Sierra Mist.

by Anonymousreply 29January 29, 2021 10:03 PM

It’s the shape. Apples are round. Round is comfortable. Pears are so oddly shaped you can only describe them with “pear-shaped.” And “pear-shaped” reminds people of fat women. Ew.

by Anonymousreply 30January 29, 2021 10:05 PM

Meyer lemon are overrated.

by Anonymousreply 31January 29, 2021 11:14 PM

And bottled lemon juice from the store sucks. You gotta put in work and juice your own lem.

by Anonymousreply 32January 29, 2021 11:19 PM

R32, jamb a broom up may ass and I can also sweep the floor while I’m squeezing enough fucking lemons for 500 servings.

by Anonymousreply 33January 29, 2021 11:29 PM

I agree, OP. I think they are the prettier, more colorful and extroverted fruits among us all.

by Anonymousreply 34January 30, 2021 4:22 AM

I suspect my lemon-squeezing technique is both lazy and limp-wristed. Is there a good machine for Marys like me?

by Anonymousreply 35January 30, 2021 12:09 PM

I once went to lunch at a pretentious queen's house. He had cooked Thai food. He was an unbearable know it all, and kept going on about how everything he did was perfect and with the perfect amount of detail.

One of the other guests, who was as annoyed as I was by then, mentioned very calmly that she was surprised that given his attention to detail, the Thai dishes he had prepared were supposed to use lime and not lemon like he had. Pretentious Queen threw a hissy fit that was hilarious to watch.

by Anonymousreply 36January 30, 2021 12:18 PM

Limes have a bitter after taste and are hard to squeeze.

Also Limes can actually dye your skin (like bleach)

by Anonymousreply 37January 30, 2021 12:43 PM

R35 r17 This is the latest iteration of the juicer I bought 12 years ago. It still works and is priced just under $17 as I write this. I bought mine because Ina recommended it, so you know it's a [italic]good[/italic] juicer.
Limes (and oranges) are mainly used for sweet dishes.

Asian and Mexican savory dishes use lime extensively.

by Anonymousreply 39January 30, 2021 7:39 PM
I think lemon is more versatile

My lemon is an insatiable bottom.

by Anonymousreply 40January 30, 2021 7:40 PM

Lemons have a fresh, bright, sour taste. Limes are more astringent tasting to me

by Anonymousreply 41January 30, 2021 7:47 PM

Isn't it evident? There are no neighbourhood whores creeping into people's gardens to steal [italic]limes[/italic].

Don Lemon or Yvonne Lime?

by Anonymousreply 43January 31, 2021 6:12 PM

Yellow privilege. 🍋

by Anonymousreply 44January 31, 2021 6:18 PM

I remember reading once as a kid that Meyer lemons were so sweet you could make lemonade out of them without any processed sugar. We didn't have them when i was growing up in the Midwest in the 70s and 80s so I couldn't try it out. Then I finally tried lemonade made out of Meyer lemons and no sugar finally as an adult when I moved to the West Coast, and it was hugely disappointing--it was not sweet enough.

Now, however, I consume so little sugar I would probably appreciate it.

by Anonymousreply 45January 31, 2021 6:24 PM

There’s Lululemon, but no Lululime.

by Anonymousreply 46January 31, 2021 7:03 PM
Lemons are less sweet and are therefore more versatile

This is the opposite of the truth. Limes are more bitter than lemons.

by Anonymousreply 47January 31, 2021 7:21 PM

R47 wouldn’t they be sour, not bitter?

by Anonymousreply 48January 31, 2021 8:14 PM

Lemons travel further north cuisine-wise. Limes tend to stay tropical.

by Anonymousreply 49January 31, 2021 8:19 PM

They both feel equally beautiful in cuts.
