What does it mean when you dream of loved ones who have died?

It's been happening to me a lot lately.

Really lovely dreams of me with close family members who've died within the last five years.

Just going about our normal business as if they're still alive.

And then I wake up. Sad.

But what does it mean?

You miss them.

I dream often of my grandmother, who died in 2006. I think dreams about dead relatives are the closest we get to seeing ghosts.

In the past few months I've lost count the number of dreams I've had of my dead relatives. It's almost a nightly occurrence.

Visitation dreams. Pay attention to what they say.

I just dreamt of my sister earlier this week. She died almost 10 years ago

It means we're almost a year into isolation, many not having seen our families in that time and you miss your family and friends.

My grandmother died about 7 years ago. Ever since then i dream i am taking care of her house. She doesn't live there anymore, but i am at her house alone, making sure everything is ok. it's a recurring dream.

It means your anti-depressants are working

I have never dreamed about deceased family members. Mother, father, grandparents, aunts, uncles -- none of 'em!

Grief resolution is not always horrific and painful

Sometimes it is a beautiful remembrance.

I'm always perplexed to see the most bit players from my life in my dreams. And I wonder if I'm likewise showing up in random people's dreams.

I would have dreams of my grandmother after she died and they were always the same. She would just walk in the door and we’d all be like - You’re alive! Oh no! We sold your house and gave your clothes to your favorite charity. Oops...

It was awkward and I wouldn’t wake up sad, but relieved that it hadn’t happened. This went on for a few years after she died.

Sounds like you never really loved any of them, R12.

Since the isolation of this year, I dream of family and several loved ones who have died. Before covid and the attendant life changes and anxiety couple with the trauma of Trump era, That happened very infrequently. Most of them are pleasant, just scenes, once in a while I am distressed and being helped or comforted.
