Are YOU guilty of speciesism?!
"Words can create a more inclusive world, or perpetuate oppression.
Calling someone an animal as an insult reinforces the myth that humans are superior to other animals & justified in violating them.
Stand up for justice by rejecting supremacist language."

That was adorable.
It's like listening to a toddler explain something on Kids Say the Darndest Things.

I agree with that thinking.
Only about 7% of snake species on the planet are venomous, yet so many humans have been self-conditioned to hate all snakes want to kill them no matter what. Same with spiders, which are almost entirely harmless and in fact quite helpful creatures to have around. Same goes for bats, which are mammals and nurse their young, yet are a symbol of Halloween and all things scary.
I like the idea of avoiding words that might reinforce disdain for any innocent creature. There are plenty of other words to use. Think about it. It isn't such a stupid idea, really.

I gotta agree with R4. We treat animals horribly, and the way we talk about them and each other should change. The terms.

I lacerated them on twitter.
Don't get me wrong. At first the post made me VERY EXCITED because it obviously meant that it was the 24th century and we had developed interspecies communication and Capt. Jean-Luc Picard was going to invite me on the Enterprise to analyze some gaseous anomalies many light years away!!
But then I realized it was 2021 and it was a profound waste of resources and some one at PETA was likely insane.

Insulting animals is unspeakably fowl.

Instead of “pig” and “sloth”... just say “Sarah Sanders”.

Sloths were called sloths because of the word meaning slow and lazy already though.

I agree with what PETA is doing, I just wish they would do it without sounding so incredibly silly. Humans treat animals poorly, but PETA treats humans poorly.

PETA treats animals far worse than almost any other people or organization. I do agree with the sentiment but fuck the messenger

The typical "animal lover" only cares about pet cats and dogs. They feel nothing about the tormented lives and slaughter of pigs, cows, chickens and other animals exploited for their meat and dairy addictions.

I was going to post what R11 said. The animal sloth got its name because they were perceived (by speciesists, of course) to be slothful.

I've never heard "snake" used for "jerk". .. "Jackass" would seem more appropriate.
"Snake" to me means someone underhanded or deceitful - a "backstabber."
I like the UK's use of the word "cow" for "a stupid, annoying woman."

I think it’s stupid to call criminals “animals” on comment sections. People are animals, and not very cute ones.

Nobody wants animals to be tortured. That said, PETA is fucking ridiculous and I'm sick to death of their stupid pronouncements on things.
