Suzanne Somers' Palm Springs estate for sale (again)

Josh Flagg has the listing this time and might actually sell it! She's also asking significantly less...$8.5 as opposed to $14+ from a few years ago. I can see why she and Alan would want to move, after falling down the stairs last fall. There's a lot of steps to fall down, between the indoor and outdoor areas. Fingers cross Suzie sells this time around.

Josh Flagg is so gross.

So is that other one, self-hating Trumpster Chad Rogers.

by Anonymousreply 1January 26, 2021 11:31 AM

I actually REALLY like it, and I'm shocked. It doesn't seem the kind of place Suzanne Somers would live; I would have expected white marble, lucite, and fluorescent animal prints everywhere.

But definitely not a home for elders. Those stone steps outside!

by Anonymousreply 2January 26, 2021 11:42 AM

I like it also. It's unpretentious, grounded, warm, inviting, comfy.

by Anonymousreply 3January 26, 2021 11:45 AM

Did she fall or was she pushed?

by Anonymousreply 4January 26, 2021 11:46 AM

Those rocks and mountains are rattlesnake heaven.

by Anonymousreply 5January 26, 2021 11:55 AM

Does she still have pigtails?

by Anonymousreply 6January 26, 2021 12:00 PM

The house is kind of nice, but the decor is a mix of simple, elegant and ostentatious, with plenty of the latter.

by Anonymousreply 7January 26, 2021 12:05 PM

Holy Chartreuse!

by Anonymousreply 8January 26, 2021 12:12 PM

I'm surprised not to hate it. The exterior is a bit of a mess, but at least it's a smart concept, especially for the site, of broken into pods. The interior is rather nice, the 1928 part especially, a sort of pared down Southern California style with informed nods to vernacular architecture of the region without being kitschy. The main bedroom is the serious mistake, with all that rough stone everywhere you might expect to see the head of a rattlesnake poking out of a crevice as you look out from your bed. I would start again with the architectural finishes of that space. The furnishings and some of the designer touches like the carved out rocks as sink basins are more what I would have expected, but in the first case those will disappear and in the second, there are not so many things (that we can see from the few photos) that I would have the contractors in for besides the main bedroom. The small outdoor areas are very nice. Even the reduced price of $8.5M seems a huge sum to me, though the square footage suggests there is much more to the house.

For such a ridiculous owner, I'm surprised that it's not a tragedy through and through, but a nice house with some kitschy personal taste but not so bad as I thought in the land of Design Toscano.

by Anonymousreply 9January 26, 2021 12:17 PM

I feel clostrrphobic looking at the interior.

by Anonymousreply 10January 26, 2021 12:26 PM

I love it, the bedroom with the stone looks so cozy.

by Anonymousreply 11January 26, 2021 12:32 PM

That place really needs to be dusted

by Anonymousreply 12January 26, 2021 12:34 PM

I actually like it too. I wouldn't do much to it. The outdoor spaces are lovely. It's not at all what I expected her home to look like although it is a minor miracle that she didn't break her neck years ago!

by Anonymousreply 13January 26, 2021 2:02 PM

[quote]Those rocks and mountains are rattlesnake heaven.

Rattlesnake venom can't get through silicone, so she's safe.

by Anonymousreply 14January 26, 2021 2:06 PM

I like it too, but I'm not sure I could rid it of it's republican stink

@r6, "Does she still have pigtails? "

No, but she still has big, floppy boobs which probably broke her fall and saved her

by Anonymousreply 15January 26, 2021 2:15 PM

That's the thing I learned after a short time in PS that the external views are best framed by MCM minimalist décor and architecture. Looking out at the desert scape from gaudy, overwrought interiors doesn't work for me

by Anonymousreply 16January 26, 2021 2:21 PM

R16 We were supposed to be going to PS and renting a house last year then it was pushed back to this year and now it's off but I did look at hundreds of vacation rentals and came to the same conclusion. One thing I loved was the houses that had high ceilings and windows that were up high above the cabinets on one wall of the kitchen so the windows were framing the palm trees. A few houses were so white and minimalist that I felt cold looking at them even with the blue skies and blazing sun in the background.

by Anonymousreply 17January 26, 2021 2:28 PM

[quote]I love it, the bedroom with the stone looks so cozy.

It better be, that's where she has sex with her 90 year old husband three times a day!

by Anonymousreply 19January 26, 2021 2:31 PM

Did anyone else read the titles of the books stacked up in her bedroom! Although after R18's post I cannot look at the bedroom again. It also reminds me that they fell together I think, right? I think I remember DL saying they were probably schtupping on the stairs when they took a tumble!

by Anonymousreply 20January 26, 2021 2:32 PM

What are some titles, R20? I'm looking at it on my phone and don't see any way of zooming in. The Happy Hooker? The Celestine Prophecies? Rich Dad, Poor Dad?

by Anonymousreply 21January 26, 2021 2:39 PM

The Palm Springs Republicans need to be called out.

by Anonymousreply 22January 26, 2021 2:42 PM

I love it. It's beautifully quirky in a spectacular setting. But I think it's still overpriced by about $3 million.

by Anonymousreply 23January 26, 2021 2:44 PM

I can’t believe all these positive comments about that nightmare horror show rattlesnake haven. I could not imagine a worse waste of $8.5 million. To each his own.

by Anonymousreply 27January 26, 2021 2:51 PM

They cleaned this up a bit - she's been trying to sell this thing for years. I remember other photos that were so over the top. This looks, by comparison, somewhat restrained and much more inviting.

I believe there are like 4 or 5 structures on the property, so these pics don't show much. There's still a problem with scale with most of her furnishings - too large of pieces. If you removed everything and swapped out lighting and other choices, it could be really great.

It's in a good area and it has fabulous views, but it's right in the side of a mountain. That's a whole lot of wildlife right out your door - coyotes, snakes, spiders, big horned sheep. You could not own a dog there without a lot of concern.

She moved out of this place into a smaller house in Las Palmas last year. I hope it sells, because I'm tired of seeing articles about this place.

by Anonymousreply 28January 26, 2021 2:58 PM

So who is the market for this? I don't think the foreign money buys up Palm Springs yet. It doesn't seem like the kind of place a rich family would move to full time so I'm guessing the market is people looking for a second/third home in which case this place is probably far too big and sprawling unless it's a wealthy old couple with lots of grandchildren who will come to stay.

by Anonymousreply 29January 26, 2021 3:03 PM

It must be heaven to sit outside at night when the nighttime temps get below 115. 😀

by Anonymousreply 30January 26, 2021 3:09 PM

So, where do Jack and Janet sleep?

by Anonymousreply 31January 26, 2021 3:15 PM

Lots of interesting spots to explore on that property. It looks like a nature lover's paradise.

by Anonymousreply 32January 26, 2021 3:17 PM

R29 - There are other properties that are more expensive in PS, but I agree.

The other higher end properties in PS have a large lot and lots of entertaining areas. This looks very cozy and not a place for many visitors - even with 7200 square feet.

I recall her having a LOT of shabby chic (really just shabby) accessories before. God knows what the other houses on the property looks like.

I could see this selling for about $4 to $5 million. They have been very stubborn about the pricing and they need to just get rid of it. They think too highly of this property - it's not as fab as they think it is.

by Anonymousreply 33January 26, 2021 3:30 PM

It's odd they don't have photos of the other 4 buildings on the property. There is a LOT of different areas and a lot of steps.

Fun fact - there seems to be a 9 car garage and circular driveway. And there is a FUNICULAR from the garage and driving area to the main house.

I guess schlepping those groceries up those steps finally broke them.

by Anonymousreply 34January 26, 2021 3:36 PM

That is *not* an estate. Calling it a pied-à-terre would be generous, considering I’ve seen more spacious walk-in closets!

by Anonymousreply 35January 26, 2021 3:36 PM

Palm Springs property porn tonight it is then!

I would love to see what she has done to other houses on the lot. I always think that they are disasters if they don't show pictures! Can't be worse than Kirstie Alley's pink kitchen though.

by Anonymousreply 36January 26, 2021 3:37 PM

She lives up on a hill next-door to Barry Manilow. I wonder if they're still friends after she came out as a big Trump supporter?

by Anonymousreply 37January 26, 2021 3:37 PM

It definitely needs to be decluttered. Can you imagine having to keep all that crap clean?

by Anonymousreply 38January 26, 2021 3:40 PM

R37 - yes, she was in his wedding. And she moved a while back next to the Bob Hope house across the canyon. Barry still lives there though.

The house is surprisingly close to things - you can walk to restaurants from there.

by Anonymousreply 39January 26, 2021 3:45 PM

So does she have another home in Palm Springs or does she live full time in Malibu now?

by Anonymousreply 40January 26, 2021 3:49 PM

[quote]Josh Flagg is so gross.

God knows what it's going to look like after she's done with it though.

by Anonymousreply 49January 26, 2021 4:11 PM

I agree that it's wildly overpriced. She might get a better return if she did a complete renovation before attempting to sell it.

by Anonymousreply 50January 26, 2021 4:14 PM

R49 It's beside Ruth Hardy Park. I faceplanted when jogging past Ann Miller's house.

by Anonymousreply 51January 26, 2021 4:18 PM

by Anonymousreply 52January 26, 2021 4:18 PM

by Anonymousreply 53January 26, 2021 4:21 PM

R54 - I believe it's a private road since other celebrities also lived up there. The Bob Hope house and the James Bond house is on the same road. It's a beautiful well lit road leading up the mountain.

Funny enough, at the bottom of the road is a mobile home park.

Here's the James Bond house (Elrod House) -

I recall when she bawled on Larry king over getting caught in a lie about liposuction she had being for breast cancer when it was for weight loss/shaping. At the time she was selling diet books. When she was younger she was arrested for writing bad checks! Then she has all that bad “luck”... houses burning, falling. Hmmm

by Anonymousreply 62January 26, 2021 4:46 PM

It doesn’t seem right that someone should pay money for a house Suzanne Somers has befouled. She should be paying someone to take it off her hands.

by Anonymousreply 63January 26, 2021 4:48 PM

R59 - there are some affordable areas. The mobile homes all appear to have been from the 50's through the 70's from what I can tell - back when it was more of a snowbird retirement community and people didn't live there year round.

There are mobile home parks next to very wealthy areas all over the Coachella Valley - in Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, and other places.

Actually, it's not a bad choice if budget is an issue. These aren't typical trailer trash.

by Anonymousreply 64January 26, 2021 4:49 PM

by Anonymousreply 66January 26, 2021 5:04 PM

She's likely to get only the value of the land for it. Few if any would want to keep the house. Anyone spending that kind of $$$ would want something more contemporary.

It wants to be too many things at once. It could have been all stonework, almost like a Fallingwater interior feel but it's that AND 90s Italiante AND like, five other things.

by Anonymousreply 67January 26, 2021 5:09 PM

"a mix of simple, elegant and ostentatious, with plenty of the latter"

Oh, dear!

by Anonymousreply 68January 26, 2021 5:18 PM

R66 - I think it should be the first sentence actually. It's a great opener - like "Call me Ishmael" or "It was the best of times and the worst of times".

It sets the tone so well.

by Anonymousreply 69January 26, 2021 5:20 PM

I actually like the earthiness - very rare in CA. Stones and earth tones are very calming. A little too frau-y but could make it work. $8.5M is insane though.

by Anonymousreply 70January 26, 2021 5:22 PM

You have to park your car at the bottom and then take a tram up to the house. A double commute just to buy a carton of milk. No thanks, I'll take something ground level in a gated community.

by Anonymousreply 75January 26, 2021 5:31 PM

Dorothy's house is near Ruth Hardy Park and some might say it's in that neighborhood, but I think it's also often considered part of the Movie Colony neighborhood.

It's as northernmost as one would want to live, sort of the northern beginnings of South Palm Springs. (If you go much farther north than that, you're in an area where the wind is incessant....that, and it's kinda desolate at that end, closer to the highway.) Movie Colony and Ruth Hardy Park were definitely the to-be places back in the day, and are still desirable (though overall, larger and more desirable homes can be found in Deepwell and Twin Palms).

by Anonymousreply 76January 26, 2021 5:38 PM

I love the layout, but I agree with others about being surrounded by all this wildlife. I hope they have 911 on speed dial.

by Anonymousreply 77January 26, 2021 5:40 PM

This isn't really "insane" considering the location. All the stars live up there. Privacy is what you pay for.

by Anonymousreply 78January 26, 2021 5:40 PM

I watched a Facebook live with her, Alan and her kids walking around the huge lot. It a multi level lot with all these different hidden spots to hang out and relax. She owns the area above the houses. I'm not sure if that on the sales list but it was amazing!

by Anonymousreply 79January 26, 2021 5:46 PM

House is gross, poor use of random materials, it’s like cheap restaurant. Faux faux faux faux there is nothing nice here. For the people complaining about neighbours “peering in” first of all what damaged you and secondly you live in a city you have neighbours.

by Anonymousreply 80January 26, 2021 5:47 PM

Yes R80 - it looks like a bad Bravo Italian restaurant! That's exactly it.

by Anonymousreply 81January 26, 2021 5:53 PM

All cunts hating on this are totally jealous of her. I would be in heaven if I lived there. Even for a short time. The indoor and outdoor spaces are beautiful. I love the natural look. Fuck the cliche "modern" look all the gays are required to love. It's bullshit! It's a lame stereotype but many gays fall in line.

by Anonymousreply 82January 26, 2021 5:54 PM

It looks like a mash-up of The Flintstones and The Beverly Hillbillies.

by Anonymousreply 83January 26, 2021 6:03 PM

R82 saying “I love the natural look” about this house makes about as much sense as saying the same thing about her face.

by Anonymousreply 84January 26, 2021 6:04 PM

Dear God she desperately needs a new hairstyle. She's 74 years old and still wears her hair like she's a 24 year old. At her age she needs to go back to her natural color (whatever that is) and get an age appropriate styling.

by Anonymousreply 85January 26, 2021 6:35 PM

That's got to be a wig, R85. I wouldn't be surprised if she's bald under it, after decades of extreme bleaching.

by Anonymousreply 86January 26, 2021 6:39 PM

Alan is 84 years old and doesn't look (or sound) like he'll be around much longer. His voice is quite weak.

by Anonymousreply 87January 26, 2021 6:50 PM

I am surprised how much I like it. Yes, a little clutter-y but all that goes away when it’s sold. I’d repaint the rooms with the rag painting, too 80s. The clutter under the slab sink shelf is annoying, implies that there’s not enough space for a linen cupboard.

Love the outdoor space and the master bath pictured in the 2nd link...bathing by firelight!

by Anonymousreply 88January 26, 2021 7:04 PM

No, I was a kid and didn't know too much about her at the time. I can still feel her shag carpet between my fingers like it was yesterday. I also remember getting pushed into the pool at another house by Tommy Tune in a fit of anger. That was one hell of a wild weekend!

by Anonymousreply 93January 26, 2021 8:34 PM

That Tommy Tune is another one on my cunt list.

He's rarely discussed here. Your story is awesome though.

I've had/am still having similar weekends.

Love when people share cool stuff.

by Anonymousreply 94January 26, 2021 9:27 PM

I'd rather hear about Tommy Tune than Suzanne Somers.

The house sounds wildly impractical--needing the tram to get into the car----defeats being in southern California! I also wonder what one would do in a fire. Multiple buildings might sound great, but I wonder if most of them are closed off, so she doesn't have to cover the utilities or worry about the plumbing.

If she bought it in '78, she'll make money regardless of what she gets. By then PS was a bit of a joke from what I understand--a spring break destination and the movie stars were mostly gone or ancient. It was probably undervalued even if it needed updating.

by Anonymousreply 95January 26, 2021 9:47 PM

R95 - to be fair, I believe the funicular was probably installed when they were adding other buildings onto the property. That's a long uphill walk from the drive to the house.

I think it's probably a lot of fun - here, get in the railcar - wheeeeeeee....all the way down to the garage. It's more fun than the walk to my car.

It is a bit weird that she moved there in 78 at the height of her fame. Obviously she still had houses in LA, but this has always been her primary residence. Maybe because she was raising a young son still.

by Anonymousreply 96January 26, 2021 10:36 PM

For whatever that’s worth (she’s still a fraud and a Trumptard)
