Another gay movie

Do you watch every gay movie, to support gay films? I usually try to watch them at the theater, so they break the $500,000 mark.

I saw it OP and it was ok.

Only if there’s dong.

Michael Cassidy has been hot since The O.C.

99.999% of US gay-themed movies are amateurish garbage that should never have been produced in the first place. The only good ones—and they’re often VERY good—are either UK or Euro productions.

Watching O.C.

by Anonymousreply 5February 18, 2021 4:45 AM

I prefer to rewatch the GLB classics like Parting Glances, Longtime Companion, Wild Reeds, Priest, The Wedding Banquet, Wilde, The Sum of Us, Brokeback Mountain, etc...and some real oldies like Victim, Sunday Bloody Sunday, and The Ritz.

Upgrade to Blu ray, R6.

by Anonymousreply 7February 18, 2021 4:56 AM

R7, Blu ray is a bust. People no longer want to buy movies. It's all streaming now. Pity.

by Anonymousreply 8February 18, 2021 5:05 AM

I didn’t know Michael Cassidy was gay.

by Anonymousreply 9February 18, 2021 5:06 AM

It’s really not all streaming, though. And if a person is buying DVDs and they’re a film lover, they should upgrade to blu ray. All TVs are at least HDTV, most of them UHDTV. DVD is sub-standard—from back in the day when TVs were 4:3. No reason not to upgrade to Blu ray in this day and age.

I don’t know what you mean by “a bust”.

by Anonymousreply 10February 18, 2021 5:14 AM

Lol, R6 took me back with Wild Reeds. I was just out of grad school in 2010 when I discovered all those films on old defunct websites (one was called Studio6 or something). I saw all of those gorgeous Téchiné films, the Everlasting Secret Family, Another Country, Beautiful Thing, Shelter, Maurice, Edge of Seventeen, etc. all for the first time. It was fucking magical.

Of course I have a Deekoo subscription now, and just like R4 put it, the quality is so bad on newer US stuff. So much of the newer stuff distributed by Breaking Glass/Wolfe is just not as good as the old stuff from TLA. Maybe it’s just nostalgia.

by Anonymousreply 11February 18, 2021 5:45 AM

R9...he's not.

by Anonymousreply 12February 18, 2021 8:35 AM

r10 the only problem is that a lot of gay movies don't even make it to DVD much less blu-ray. Or if they do get a release they're cheap MOD burned discs. I guess the gays aren't interested in physical media collections. There are a ton of titles I'd love to upgrade to blu-ray but the labels must not see any value in bothering.

by Anonymousreply 13February 18, 2021 9:39 AM

We started to watch The Accompanist last night on Dekoo and it was so bad we turned it off after about 30 minutes

by Anonymousreply 14February 18, 2021 11:06 AM

Sad to say, but the only reason I'd watch this is because I like Michael Cassidy. Who is straight.

by Anonymousreply 15February 18, 2021 11:58 AM

God no, most of them are self-indulgent pieces of crap.

by Anonymousreply 16February 18, 2021 12:40 PM

Wow that's the guy from Nurse Jackie and the hot guy from the Dare Project. It was a short made by a film student years ago that took off online. I actually liked it.

R4 Completely agree about US gay-themed films, though I would add Latin American films to the list of alternatives. This thread mentions several to be recommended.
