Does Ted Cruz have a condition causing him to decompensate?

Yes, we know Ted Cruz is a striving right wing nut with delusions of grandeur who is loathed even by his GOP colleagues (John Boehner called him Lucifer in the flesh).

And he's gotten worse lately. Why would a really smart, careerist, constitutional lawyer ally himself to such an extreme with clearly seditious rag tag bunch? He infuriated current and former staff. His communications director resigned and it looks like he's sunk any cachet he may have had, at least for the time being. And the corporate campaign contributions are evaporating, at least for the time being.

Just looking at his appearance lately makes me think he has some mental condition or he's drinking. I've been struck by how disheveled he looks. He looks greasier than ever, the beard and hair untrimmed. If he wasn't wearing a suit, he'd look kinda homeless. A decrease in personal hygiene often accompanies mental disorders, so I've begun wondering about his mental status.

His father is a crazy Dominionist pastor who actually preaches that Ted's a returned Messiah. It kind of sounds like there's a family background of some type of thought disorder. Wouldn't surprise me in the least.

by Anonymousreply 95February 21, 2021 11:10 PM

To use a medical term: Ted's a putz.

by Anonymousreply 1January 23, 2021 11:26 PM

He is terribly embarrassed about being Hispanic and desperately wants to be seen as white

His real name is Raphael.

by Anonymousreply 2January 23, 2021 11:29 PM

He suffers from the dreaded disease known as Douche Syndrome

There is no known cure

by Anonymousreply 3January 23, 2021 11:30 PM

He can be a putz and mentally ill. Makes me think about an article I read about the pharmacy that serves Congress. The pharmacist interviewed mentioned lots of heart and BP medication AND anti-Alzheimer's drugs. I thought about Dianne Feinstein's recent doddering.

We really don't have protections from legislators who are not mentally competent. 25th Amendment types of recourse are useless, as we've seen.

Seth Meyers called him a "jagoff".

Pittsburghers will be familiar with this expression.

by Anonymousreply 8January 24, 2021 12:01 AM

As R2 said, Rafael wishes he wasn't Cuban and therefore tries to go above and beyond the creatures surrounding him.

by Anonymousreply 9January 24, 2021 12:08 AM

Didn’t Rafael’s father kill JFK?

by Anonymousreply 10January 24, 2021 12:10 AM

Sometimes assholes are just assholes.

by Anonymousreply 11January 24, 2021 12:14 AM

It’s not hyperbole: Supposedly, he’s the most hated man in the Senate...and that was well before January 6th. Notice how he and his colleague John Cronyn have no relationship whatsoever...

by Anonymousreply 12January 24, 2021 12:16 AM

Like all right wing assholes he's a sadist. Trump, Rush, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham and the Fox News Nazi Bunch. They love their weird, smug "superiority". Insufferable.

by Anonymousreply 13January 24, 2021 12:23 AM

The sex dream I had about him was the some shameful of my life.

by Anonymousreply 14January 24, 2021 12:40 AM

I always think about his wife who was found by the cops on the side of a highway during one of her depressive episodes.

by Anonymousreply 22January 24, 2021 1:19 AM

Prescription drug problem? As well as being a douche.

by Anonymousreply 23January 24, 2021 1:20 AM

It's called Corona Morona.

Many people suffer from this.

If you've been dragged out of a public place for not wearing a mask whilst screaming about "Mah freedums!" you may be afflicted.

Ask your doctor about possible treatments.

Cyanide and liquid nicotine are especially efficacious.

by Anonymousreply 27January 24, 2021 5:18 AM

He really does look like he has been depressed lately. The beard is not helping. It’s not well maintained. I bet his breath is atrocious.

by Anonymousreply 28January 24, 2021 5:32 AM

^That's another symptom of a mental disorder. The fucker cannot possibly hope for any political future if he alienates his closest theoretical/conceptual allies. He burned down the house as far as getting support in Congress, AND he's alienating his own Federalist Conservative types on the SCOTUS?

I very seriously wonder if Ted's having some kind of a psychotic breakdown and his pals are having a containment freakout. They already know about Heidi's expressway breakdown that looong preceded Ted's Trump snatch-sniffing episodes.

by Anonymousreply 29January 24, 2021 5:33 AM

He had a chin implant and has sported the beard to delay the unveiling and manipulate us into forgetting about his chinless face. He still looks like grampa munster.

by Anonymousreply 35January 24, 2021 8:34 AM

I think he's desperately trying to grab the MAGA crown, but because he's the antithesis of a MAGA (well educated, intelligent, couches racism in euphemisms), he's trying on a Davey Crockett outdoorsy look to make him appear less like the predatory, douche lawyer that he actually is. In my wildest dreams, I *hope* he's having some sort of personal crisis, but that requires him to have a soul and some degree of self awareness, which he does not have

But I completely agree that his breath likely stinks to high heaven

by Anonymousreply 36January 24, 2021 10:09 AM

Stories have it that Cruz was widely disliked as far back as college, where he went out of his way to antagonize people (more "who is that asshole?" than being a bully).

And that in law school he refused to join a study group with anyone who hadn't done their undergrad at HYP.

by Anonymousreply 37January 24, 2021 11:32 AM

The bigger question is; who the fuck votes for these awful people?

by Anonymousreply 38January 24, 2021 11:44 AM

He's a lot like Trump in that he really wants the approval of Hollywood. That's why he got into it with Seth Rogen. He enjoys that Hollywood knows who he is and any attention from them gets him off - even if negative

by Anonymousreply 39January 24, 2021 11:48 AM

R37, lucky if you went to Stanford or Columbia, then.

by Anonymousreply 40January 24, 2021 11:49 AM

[quote]who the fuck votes for these awful people?

Awful people.

by Anonymousreply 41January 24, 2021 11:55 AM

[quote]he really wants the approval of Hollywood.

That's not happening. His Fallon appearance showed how awkward, unfunny, and unlikeable he was. It must have killed him knowing that the cast of his favorite film, The Princess Bride, reunited to oppose Trump.

He'll have more luck with the fringe fanatics, but he's no nearly as charismatic as Trump.

by Anonymousreply 42January 24, 2021 12:01 PM

Psychologically, he's highly insecure and socially awkward. He thinks that having power should make people like, respect, and care for him. Some people may do that, but it's not genuine and it's usually temporary and transactional. Similar to trump, but trump is exponentially worse.

by Anonymousreply 43January 24, 2021 12:09 PM

He looks like last bathed during the Dubya presidency.

by Anonymousreply 44January 24, 2021 12:14 PM

His own daughter recoiling at his kiss is indicative of how unlikable he is.

His wife must have such low self-esteem that despite her own accomplishments, she felt she couldn't do better than him. And she wasn't unattractive.

How do you stay with a spouse who doesn't defend you and worse, grovels before your attacker and desperately seeks his approval because you're that much of a politically-craven shit?

by Anonymousreply 45January 24, 2021 12:32 PM

Aren't conservative women encouraged to stay with their men come hell or high water?

by Anonymousreply 46January 24, 2021 12:40 PM

by Anonymousreply 47January 24, 2021 12:46 PM

I think we need some kind of vetting system to allow people to run for office. There should also be an age limit of around 32 years old to even run for office and then an age limit of 70 to run.

by Anonymousreply 48January 24, 2021 12:49 PM

Cruz looks like he's on Seroquel for schizophrenia

Prior to this Twitter spat with Seth Rogen Cruz had another spat with Ron Perlman, Cruz even went as far as challenging Perlman to a fight... with Gym Jordan! Such a douchenozzel cowardly move

by Anonymousreply 51January 24, 2021 1:09 PM

by Anonymousreply 54January 24, 2021 2:49 PM

by Anonymousreply 55January 24, 2021 3:30 PM

The majority of Republicans were all for Trump --and still are. He's obviously angling for a run in 2024 and is catering to that base. But he is too physically unattractive to be an appealing candidate, and he doesn't have inner beauty to compensate.

by Anonymousreply 56January 24, 2021 4:26 PM

[quote] Why would a really smart, careerist, constitutional lawyer ally himself to such an extreme with clearly seditious rag tag bunch?

He’s a Republican. They are the party of the rich. How many rich people are there? Not enough to get elected.

So they have to dupe the people their policies harm into voting for them.

by Anonymousreply 59January 24, 2021 4:59 PM

Cruz saw Trump ascend to the top by being unabashedly wicked and delighting in it. Cruel, corrupt, vile, obscene. Trump defeated Cruz with those qualities and he took what Cruz wanted.

Trump has been dethroned and Cruz believes that by emulating Trump, he can wrest power with the support of Trump's wicked fans and the GOP's backing. He may be right, but he doesn't have charisma or gravitas or bravado. He'll never be much more than a performer.

by Anonymousreply 60January 24, 2021 5:33 PM

Evangelical Christianity KILLS. All of these guys, the Christian Right, are twisted up into knots of repression and self-loathing, because of the kind of insane judgemental fear-based NON-jesuslike Christianity of which they are imprisoned. Pence, Cruz, whomever, can't even name them all and don't care. It's just a ton of BS and Trump manipulated all of the Christian Right by throwing out platitudes that he himself does not believe it -- and has contempt for! Trump is not religious, not even a tiny bit. But he was doing quid pro quos to get power for himself.

Ha! Mr. "oops got another stripper pregnant and paid them to abort the fetus" and "I wanted Marla to abort Tiffany" is sitting in his papa bear chair reading the bible at night? I have MANY bridges to sell.

by Anonymousreply 63January 24, 2021 7:00 PM

One of my favorite wuotes:

"I like Ted Cruz more than most of my other colleagues like Ted Cruz. And I hate Ted Cruz." - Al Franken

by Anonymousreply 64January 24, 2021 7:01 PM

OP, it's a mistake to label Cruz a 'constitutional lawyer.' Yes, I know he has training, but he's not in it for the constitution or even the putative majesty of the law. He's a Jesus freak. A dominionist. Everything he does, he does 1) to please his father, and 2) to propel America into a Christianist theocracy.

Hawley is aligned with the same mess. They are a natural together.

by Anonymousreply 65January 24, 2021 7:11 PM

After dropping out of the race, Graham described the choice between Trump and Cruz as a deadly no-win situation: “It’s like being shot or poisoned," Graham said at a Capitol Hill press conference in January. “What does it matter?”

At the Washington Foundation Press Club’s congressional dinner in February, Graham went a step further by joking about Cruz’s murder: “If you killed Ted Cruz on the floor of the Senate, and the trial was in the Senate, nobody would convict you.”

by Anonymousreply 66January 24, 2021 7:14 PM

Does anyone like Cruz?

by Anonymousreply 67January 24, 2021 7:17 PM

It's both laughable and sad that he thinks he will be President.

by Anonymousreply 68January 24, 2021 7:20 PM

One of the articles about the fallout after the riot and insurrection noted how startled and upset his staffers were. Apparently, he is/was well-liked among them and they were very well treated which made this episode difficult for them. His communications director resigned. I guess he doesn't have a problem with underlings, just his equals or superiors.

by Anonymousreply 84January 31, 2021 4:40 PM

Further to R84, I learned, earlier this month, that my barber was Ted Cruz's when he was a law student at Harvard.

He's pretty liberal for an old guy and I asked him what Cruz was like when he cut his hair.

He put down the shears, looked at me, and said, "I should have have cut his throat."

by Anonymousreply 85January 31, 2021 4:47 PM

It was so desperate to rush to second Sen Hawley’s refuting of the Electoral College votes.

Cruz sees his chance of becoming president dissolving away

by Anonymousreply 86January 31, 2021 5:28 PM

by Anonymousreply 87February 19, 2021 7:44 AM

[quote] And he's gotten worse lately. Why would a really smart, careerist, constitutional lawyer ally himself to such an extreme with clearly seditious rag tag bunch?

Why does every mention of Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley have to assert their purported intelligences? Both support a man who attacked the country and tried to destroy the democracy that installed them into power. They support a man who has no loyalty. Cruz supports a man who alleged his father murdered a president and called his wife ugly. Why must everyone say how "smart" he is every time they utter his name? He's not smart enough not to support someone who works against his interests.

by Anonymousreply 88February 19, 2021 7:56 AM

by Anonymousreply 90February 19, 2021 8:49 AM

by Anonymousreply 91February 19, 2021 8:51 AM

I've started to suspect he may have a touch of autism. His two defining characteristics are:

1.) being really smart and 2.) being pathologically unlikable. That's why I lean away from the sociopathy thesis. Sociopaths are known for their superficial charm and charisma, yet Ted seems absolutely socially inept and couldn't charm a starving dog with a peanut butter-covered dog treat if his life depended on it.

by Anonymousreply 92February 19, 2021 1:15 PM

Why did Ted Cruz think "Oh, I'll fly down to the Ritz Carlton in sunny Mexico for a Scaramucci during a pandemic and natural disaster" would be a good idea??

by Anonymousreply 93February 19, 2021 1:18 PM

R84, I met a Harvard law grad who was a classmate of Cruz's there. Said the same thing as the Princeton alums about Cruz. Wasn't even reticent in describing Cruz as a jerk and all around miserable person.
