The Japanese tsunami gave me nightmares. You're running from radioactive water. And Godzilla might be in the water. Those people were fucked.

Tsunami.
It’s never the freak wave you see in movies: It’s just the tide rolling in — except it doesn’t withdraw.

Who hasn’t had a nightmare of a giant wave on the horizon?

You usually get advance notice of a volcano eruption. Tsunami? You get minutes. The Japanese one was scary, so much of it was caught on camera. The earthquake that preceded it lasted a long time. There was footage taken at a small airport and it just went on and on, everyone huddled on the floor. But the flooding was the worst. You think, well I’ll just climb up to the roof of this five story concrete block building rather than try to out run it. Nope, you’d still die. Just horrible.

280,000 people dead? That is insane.

Earthquakes because they're unpredictable.

I'm not sure I can pick one, I find them all terrifying but also fascinating. Very humbling too, we humans have such a tenuous grip on this earth and we don't realise it until something like this happens.
I guess those natural disasters to do with water are the worst for me, if I had to pick one. I have always had a horror of deep water. Like, I am fine with heights generally, except when they're over water, and then my knees go weak. I think it's the idea of being washed away from the safety of land, plus thoughts of what may lurk in deep waters that all mix together.
At the same time, my favourite sport would be swimming and I am very good at it, plus have done lifesaving. So you think I'd be less freaked out by it.

The Japanese tsunami videos are frightful. That water looked so black (sediment?) and it just overwhelmed and destroyed everything in seconds.

The Japanese tsunami videos will win this forever and ever. I went through earthquakes in Japan but the tsunami factor changes everything. You know it's coming but you can't do anything about it.

A devastating asteroid impact! It's terrifying because scientists are 100% sure it will happen, but don't know when.

Tsunami What happened in 2004 in Indonesia and 2011 in Japan scarred me

I'm from SoCal and have lived through too many quakes to remember. They don't bother me at all. But tsunami's? FUCK THAT.
When I was a kid, my older cousin would scare the hell out of us, telling us that a huge wave (we called them tidal waves then) could occur after a big enough earthquake and that if we were at the beach (where all poor kids went during the summer) to run for higher ground immediately after the quake. My sister and I would plan elaborate escape routes and even practice them!
Looking back, our cousin was actually pretty wise!
