I'm assuming that someone on here must work for something like a Door Dash, or Grubhub or Lift or Postmates. What is your annual take home? Or is it more like a side gig to supplement a salary from a fulltime job? Are you independent contractors or are you a salaried employee? Benefits?
What kind of salary does someone in the gig economy make?

my straight friend is good with technology, generally handy all around. He now does home design lighting tech for super high end NYC apartments on Central Park West. It's all been word of mouth, all under the table. He's making low six figures which - considering no taxes - is about what he was making before he was unemployed by Covid.

I only do door dash when I feel like it as a second income. On a good day I can make 100 or more. Just depends on how busy and how many hours you want to put in. It would be interesting to hear from someone who does it full-time.

Do they at least get reimbursed for gas money?

I don't think what gig workers make is considered a "salary."

R4, according to my math I average about 8-9 dollars an hour.

Is it better to tip them cash or tip them on the app? I notice some seem surly if I don't them cash at the door so I let them know I tipped them on the app. But it feels weird not to give them cash (but the app says they are supposed to be contact free so a.) They shouldn't be waiting for me to open the door, anyway, and b.) Me handing them cash could be considered "contact".)
I tip around 40%, as well, considering I don't know if they're getting gas reimbursement or how many orders they're getting in an area like mine.

This “gig” economy is a joke. No benefits, no idea how much you will make, vague payment structures, company stealing tips, etc. I think these gigs are good for part-timers or college students but not for full-time employment. It seems like with most gig jobs you get screwed!

better to put a tip jar in the center of your tramp stamp while you are on all fours presenting hole

R9, you can leave cash in an envelope on the door step.
R10, I do Door Dash as a side gig and they deposit money on Mondays or they have an option of cashing out at the end of the evening. The most I made was during the Covid lockdown and people were not going out. Very lucrative then. Some nights I can make $17-18 a Dash. This may depend on location too.
