Has anyone seen or been in an Outdoor Drama?

I was in the outdoor drama 'The Lone Star' as a dancer. I was twenty then, full of vim and verve. This was back in the 70's when we were stoned most of the time during the run. It was a wild crowd, but we did a damn good show. I loved going back to see it over the year, and nothing has changed... at least from what I can see. I am surprised that most of these shows are still planning to open this year, so far.

I was the lead in MADONNA! MAMMA OF CHRIST at the Hollywood Bowl. One performance, but the afterbirth scene brought the house down.

I've been in many outdoor dramas, just not the kind you're thinking of. The last one consisted of my neighbor whose two dogs were lost in the woods for 6 days, but the crisis ended happily yesterday at noon.

I'm a bit confused. Is an Outdoor Drama just a play in a theatre without a roof?

Does the Ashland Shakespear Festival count?

It's all outdoors in the summer, with a replica of the Globe Theater stage.

Outdoor dramas are plays about a historic event performed on the site where the historic event actually happened.

The Lost Colony is performed on the site where the original English colony in America was located. This was a colony settled some 20 years before Jamestown, but when supply ships returned from England, all the colonists had disappeared.

Unto These Hills is performed on the land where the Cherokee Indians lived before the US government forced them to relocate to Oklahoma via the Trail of Tears.

I spent a summer in The Cross and The Sword, an outdoor drama about the founding of St. Augustine and Pedro Menendez. This would have been circa 1976 or 1977. It WAS a wild time. I think I made....$125 a week, chorus and understudying one of the leads. We only worked 2 and half hours a night, five days a week so there was much partying in the off-times. I remember that we somehow convinced the local movie theatre owner to put on a special midnight showing of Star Wars. A lot of us took acid and went to see the movie. Ahhh..fun times.

California has the Ramona Pageant. And then there's the Pageant of the Masters, which really isn't a drama, but a truly unique experience. (Although I'm sure there's plenty of drama backstage.)
