Had a huge hit with "You Get What You Give" but broke up the band before the second single was released. He was a songwriter and wasn't comfortable fronting the band.
Fantastic song. Now try and get it out of your head......

His writing partner all these years is Danielle Brisebois the kid form "All In The Family. She is in teh video playing piano and dancing with short red hair. They were nominated for the Oscar in 2015 for a song from "Begin Again" losing to John Legend and Common for "Selma"

That song will always remind me of the Atlanta Dogwood Festival from when I lived there.

Fun fact: Joni Mitchell loved this song and said it was the best pop song she’d heard in years and years; she’d hated everything on the radio until this came out.
I never liked it. The “call-outs” of famous people toward the end was especially cringeworthy. “Courtney Love and Marilyn Manson... come around, we’ll kick your ass in!”
Ugh

There is a generation of kids today who know little or nothing of the names dropped in the song. Think about that.

Terrible song. Ugly singer with a very stupid hat. He definitely got bullied by the cool kids and jocks.

They should have won. I saw "Begin Again" in the theaters and I couldn't get "Lost Stars" out of my head. There's several versions of it - Keira Knightly's and two by Adam Levine and they're all great.

I liked this song. It just had a really interesting sound to it. I can see why Joni loved it.
It really sounded like something Todd Rundgren would have written or song around the time of Hello It's Me.

Courtney Love and Marilyn Manson

Wow that video is some serious 90s mess.
But the funny thing is in reality, the uptight adults the KIDS seem to terrify would actually love the mid-tempo dad rock.

i don't think he's ugly, i do think the courtney love and marilyn manson part of the song is cheesy, it would've been better without it.

Fun fact: I grew up on Staten Island and when this video was being filmed, they canvassed the mall looking for teens to be all the extras in the crowd/food fight scenes. I got asked, but my parents refused since it was an overnight filming and I was only 15. I was very angst-y teen upset with them for weeks since some of my friends were allowed and can be seen in the video. That food court is now long gone and replaced with a more modern food court elsewhere in the mall, but the elevator is still there!

R24 - ask your parents about The Honeycomb. Specifically the glass blower.

My friend went to the same high school as him. He did not know him well but just knew he was into music. I don’t think Gregg was into the whole fame thing that’s why he quit the band. It’s cool to see him doing well!

You Get What You Give sounds like a lost hit single by Hall and Oates together with Todd Rundgren.

That whole album, Maybe You’ve been Brainwashed Too, is great. I used to play it again and again in my car. The poster above who said it reminded him of Todd Rundgren nailed it, Now I know why I like the album so much.

I was reviewing CDs for a magazine when this album came out. I became obsessed with it. It was so good. When the New Radicals came to Toronto, I was excited to see them perform my favourite new album. They were HORRIBLE. At one point, Gregg saw me singing every song and put the microphone in my face and I froze. That show was a mess.
It's still a great album, though.

Courtney Love could easily snap this ugly loser in half like a twig. Fuck this cheesy song.

I was worried that Gregg would do one of his "interpretations" of the song for the Inauguration and ruin it.

I don’t get why he calls out Beck at the end. What the hell has Beck ever done to him? As far as musicians go he’s as low key as you get.

Gregg said in an interview that he said those names at the end of the song because he's a big fan of all those artists and wanted them to get as much exposure as they could.

I didnt make the comparison to Rundgren. I don't think that song sounds like Rundgren, it's just pop candy. But these are Rundgren's best:
Can We Still Be Friends?
The Last Ride
I Saw The Light
Compassion
It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference
We Gotta Get You a Woman
Hello It's Me
Hideaway
Love of the Common Man

I flipped the fuck out over this song and album in 1999. I was on a trip to LA and Santa Barbara for my first film festival and I bought their CD at a little mom and pop record store on the main drag in SB. I played it in the car driving back to LA, and much to the irritation of my travel mates, played YGWYG over and over again for about an hour. I'm surprised no one ejected the disc and threw it out the window. 22 years later and I still love it.
A year after their album came out, Danielle Brisebois was slated to release her 2nd solo album, Portable Life. I lived in NYC at the time and was about 3 blocks from a great record shop, St. Marks Sounds. They used to sell used CDs and LPs and would often have an 88 cent bin where they would put promo copies of CDs they'd get from employees at labels. It was a great way back then to sample something you never heard of that was either just being released or didn't quite make it. I bought Duncan Sheik's first album there in the summer of 1996 because I thought he was cute. I thought the album was great and felt bad that no one took notice of it. It took almost a year for it to finally break.
Anyway, I grabbed Danielle's CD for 88 cents because Gregg had produced it. Just as good as the New Radicals album. And for some reason (that has never been publicly revealed to this day) the record company decided at the last minute not to release Danielle's album and never did. It was finally released digitally in 2008. I wound up selling it on Ebay before that for over $100.
