You’re Fired! Jill Biden Fires White House Chief Usher

Today, Jill Biden fired the White House Chief Usher, Timothy Harleth. Harleth was hired by Melania Trump to fill the position of general caretaker, manager of the White House.

President Trump did not let go of Obama’s Chief usher into well into his term. Angella Reid, the first woman in that job was able to keep her job six months before the Trumps felt the need for a switch. Harleth was not afforded that opportunity by Jill Biden. The First Lady’s Office typically decides who the White House Usher is. Jill Biden’s office did not respond to the media for comment.

"It has been an honor to serve as Chief Usher, a position whose loyalty is not to a specific president, but rather to the institution of the presidency. I am proud that I had the opportunity to lead the Residence Staff to receive the incoming First Family with the utmost respect and dignity," Harleth said in a statement to The New York Times.

by Anonymousreply 5January 22, 2021 12:40 AM

Good.

by Anonymousreply 6January 22, 2021 12:40 AM

I'd fire him too.

He looks like a bitchy queen.

He'd also probably report back to Trump all of the goings on in the White House.

Girl, bye!

This guy previously worked for the Trump international DC Hotel. I’d get him out too, as he may have loyalty to Trump. I wouldn’t trust him.

The Bidens need to get people in place who they can trust and who they feel comfortable with.

by Anonymousreply 8January 22, 2021 12:43 AM

Elections have consequences. As a former Trump hotel employee he probably sensed his services would no longer be needed.

by Anonymousreply 9January 22, 2021 12:45 AM

This strikes me as a very petty story. Is the White House Usher (a position I've never heard of before) so consequential that he needs to issue a "statement" to the NYT? Good for you, dude, you achieved a "graceful" and "dignified" transition. It matters very little; just go home now.

by Anonymousreply 10January 22, 2021 12:45 AM

He sounds like a passive-aggressive cunt to me.

Sorry, not "graceful" but "respectful."

I couldn't give less of a fuck about a single motherfucker who came in with the Trump admin - and that includes custodial staff. Put every single fucker who came in with that parasitic admin and willingly worked for it on the chopping block. And take your "unity" horseshit and shove it up McConnell's ass. Scumbags.

by Anonymousreply 16January 22, 2021 12:53 AM

As others have said, he was Trump flunky. That position is typically filled by public servants, military personnel or career staff members, not randos pulled in from a former president's corrupt business asset.

He looks like the type who would have to be "escorted" off the premises.

by Anonymousreply 19January 22, 2021 12:59 AM

Too bad that the position of Chief Usher has now apparently (thanks, Jill) a political post.

Some of the previous holders of the position served for 4 different Presidents (of both parties). And one served 6 different Presidents.

Even Trump, who despised Obama, was not so petty about the Chief User position.

R20? Trump is a petty, vindictive swine. There is not a single fucking thing Biden could do that can ever be described as "so petty" when compared to Trump.

What you are currently trying to do is act as though the house with the single weed in a garden of flowers is just as bad as the house next door with a front yard covered in crack pipes, meth pipes and syringes.

The Trumps allegedly mistrusted the staff at the White House when they first arrived, believing the staff had allegiance to Obama. Donald allegedly wanted someone vetted by the Trump Organization to run the show. Ms. Reid, the first woman to hold the position of chief usher, was allegedly terminated without cause and replaced with Mr. Harleth.

by Anonymousreply 62January 22, 2021 1:44 AM

So he was fired before he supposedly didn't open the front door?

by Anonymousreply 69January 22, 2021 2:02 AM

So is "Chief Usher" some glorified, jumped-up version of a Butler?

by Anonymousreply 70January 22, 2021 2:08 AM

R69, per article in today's NYT's:

Nothing was normal in the transition from the Trump to the Biden administration, and turning over the White House to new occupants was no exception. For one, there was no chief usher to greet the Bidens when they arrived. Although it is unclear exactly what caused the delay with the doors — which are normally opened by Marine guards — the chief usher of the White House, who manages the residence, had been fired less than five hours earlier.

Timothy Harleth, the Trumps’ chief usher and a former rooms manager of the Trump International Hotel in Washington, was busy moving furniture on Inauguration Day when he was told at 11:30 a.m. that his services were no longer needed, people familiar with the process said. The incoming president’s counsel called the White House counsel on Wednesday, according to a person familiar with the process, and said the Bidens planned to bring in their own person.

by Anonymousreply 71January 22, 2021 2:14 AM

[quote] So he was fired before he supposedly didn't open the front door?

Yes, that's right. I don't know if "the Bidens" fired him, but he was setting up for them in the White House when he was informed he was being let go at 11:30. It was in the Washington Post or NYT story-- I can't remember which had the scoop. It seems really strange that he wasn't told in advance that he was out of a job. That's why I think there is more to the story.

by Anonymousreply 72January 22, 2021 2:17 AM

Trump fired him. Jill get the blame. Marvellous. I bet the outgoing WH counsel celled his incoming counterpart to find out what the plans were and the Bidens walked into the trap.

by Anonymousreply 79January 22, 2021 2:31 AM

by Anonymousreply 81January 22, 2021 2:42 AM

Having looked into this, I feel sorry for the guy. He was fired by the Trumps for being cooperative with the transition. He seems to have been fired at 6am on 20th, just before the Trumps left the WH. As the guy says in his departing comments, his duty is to the presidency, not just to Trump or anyone else. How wrong he was to think that Trump could accept that. And Jill gets the blame FFS.

It was the Biden transition that made the call on him. Trump had landed and was in Florida at 11:30. Does anyone believe that Trump would have fired the guy at that point.

He was indeed fired by the Biden’s, JILL Biden.

by Anonymousreply 89January 22, 2021 3:06 AM

I know what the article said but there are a lot of details missing. Biden's team is way too careful to do something messy like this right out of the gate.

by Anonymousreply 90January 22, 2021 3:08 AM

R88 NOOO I'm shocked! ;-) Will be fun to watch the usual suspects bounce back and forth from hating Jill to hating Kamala. by Anonymousreply 96January 22, 2021 3:26 AM

You know, I've participated in this thread up to now, but I'm starting to feel it's a mistake to jump on tiny stories like this. Does everything have to be a fucking scandal that needs to be talked to death and have blame assigned to the sinners?

I know this is the place for pointless bitchery and gossip, but I can't help feeling that this need to be scandalized and impute wrongdoing to every little event is what helped get us into the Trump Era to begin with. There is frequently turnover in WH staff when a new administration takes over. This is neither surprising, nor scandalous. I love how it is just assumed that this is jill's fault, maybe Joe wanted the change. Maybe they both did. It isn't a crime that they wanted someone they trust and are comfortable with in that position.

by Anonymousreply 100January 22, 2021 3:35 AM

It's completely inappropriate for any staff who were personally appointed by Trump/Melania Trump (for whatever reason) into positions of importance and influence within the White House to remain in their jobs.

No normal person would believe that they would keep their job with a change of President/administration and especially not after the events of the last several months. Nobody is that stupid surely.

Are they?

by Anonymousreply 101January 22, 2021 3:39 AM

The Bidens should have set a trap for this fucker. Reveal something very very specific (and fake) in his presence and see if it gets leaked. When it does, then fire his ass.

Supposedly, the Royals do stuff like this...Prince William in particular would test potential friends by telling each new maybe friend a tiny bit of dish and see if they spread it. If they did, he knew he couldn't trust them to be part of his inner circle.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 107January 22, 2021 5:55 AM

Adding my voice in recommending the book "Upstairs at the White House." I learned a great deal from it.

My interpretation is that they knew going in they did not want him, and this was their first opportunity to let him go. It's not as though Trump was allowing a smooth transition process.

Also, it makes sense for him to orchestrate the transition, as expecting someone new to the position to carry it out would be a challenge.

My partner said he read that the usher didn't want to return to working for Trump, but I haven't seen that myself.

I don't think it felt good for him to be let go, but Trump should not have turned it into a political position.

by Anonymousreply 108January 22, 2021 5:56 AM

by Anonymousreply 109January 22, 2021 6:07 AM

by Anonymousreply 110January 22, 2021 6:15 AM

Govt jobs are typiclly not paid well. The President gets paid a salary that DLers tell us all the time is barely middle class in NYC so this guy can't have been making bank. He'd probably earn more with tips at a Four Seasons/Peninsula.

by Anonymousreply 111January 22, 2021 6:39 AM

Seriously though who didn't open the door for them? The Biden people were in charge of the White House at that point so someone dropped the ball.

by Anonymousreply 112January 22, 2021 7:18 AM

The White House staff should have opened the door, R112.

That's why they're there. That's why they get paid. It's their job.

And I believe the Usher coordinates all of that.

by Anonymousreply 113January 22, 2021 7:27 AM

I watched the video of the Bidens arrival, they seemed perfectly capable of letting themselves in along with their family and friends. The only thing that would have made it better would have been to see the Trumps dragged out by their feet scratching and screaming about it being THEIR house and how unfair everything was to THEM

by Anonymousreply 114January 22, 2021 8:03 AM

I hope Jill has ordered a deep deep clean of the White House.

Will they ever get the stench if cheap perfume, cum stains, COVID and goodness knows what else out of the White House?

by Anonymousreply 115January 22, 2021 8:04 AM

^^ I don't know if I'd ever feel comfortable being in the White House after the Trumps. I'd always be wondering if someone was watching or listening, so that I could be the next victim of a Trump blackmail set-up

by Anonymousreply 116January 22, 2021 8:11 AM

I would replace every single member of staff who worked for the Trumps during the Trump presidency nightmare. They clearly showed that they either had no morals (to continue working for such an evil clan) or were unemployable elsewhere, so were stuck in their jobs - either of which would rule them out for me.

Clean house, top to bottom, and never look back.

by Anonymousreply 117January 22, 2021 8:29 AM

by Anonymousreply 118January 22, 2021 9:09 AM

Once Trump and the First Whore walked out of the rear White House door to get on Marine One they forgot the names of every person they ever employed during their time in Washington. I seriously doubt this guy would even be able to get a letter of reference from Trump.

While people have served in a non-political manner at the WH for years, I think Dump has now set the precedent that you fire everyone to bring in "your" people and they go out the door with you too.

I don't blame Bidens for firing the guy given the way Dump & Co. behaved, but I do feel kind of bad for the guy since he 1. got shit for trying to cooperate with the Bidens 2. apparently was criticized for his handling of the COVID outbreak at the WH, though you know they told him he was a dead man if he let that info out. He apparently had no contact with Dump prior to the WH other than working for one of their properties.

Maybe more will come out, but he just seems like yet an average person destroyed by his association with Dump.

by Anonymousreply 120January 22, 2021 10:20 AM

There are many lower level staff members who worked in the White House during the Trump years who've been there long before the Trumps came to town. They should be left alone. But I would definitely discharge anyone the Trumps hired.

by Anonymousreply 121January 22, 2021 10:31 AM

Could they not place him elsewhere? Seems kinda harsh.

by Anonymousreply 122January 22, 2021 10:35 AM

He needed to be let go due to his negligence during the WH COVID outbreak. In his job, he failed to enact safety protocols for WH staff such as mandatory mask-wearing. If the President forbid his staff from protecting themselves with masks then he should have resigned. The fact that he didn't lead on COVID when the Bidens are coming in as a more responsible Administration was likely the reason for his termination. You can't have an irresponsible leader remain in your home.

I also wonder if he did not take the calls from Jill's staff from November through January 6th. She knew how this was supposed to go but he probably dragged his feet. Either way, he was a bitch and had to go. A person of honor that cared about the institution would have put their job on the line to uphold the safety of the WH and respect the time-honored traditions of the Presidential Transition processes.

Of course, he was helping to get things together at 11:30 AM on Wednesday. The Trumps had finally left and he wanted to keep his job. I don't feel sorry for this man. No one of honor would have remained at the WH once the virus started spreading to their staff with no mask mandates or social distancing rules set in place. He failed his team and the position of Chief Usher.

by Anonymousreply 123January 22, 2021 10:56 AM

No r122. It was already noted prior to his termination that he caused issues with the established WH staff. Biden made it clear that he will not accept rude or incompetent people in his government. Sounds like this man, in a Trumpian fashion, was one of those two things that the Bidens would not accept. Jill and Joe are on the same team. When he said he would fire the dead weight he meant fire, not reassign.

by Anonymousreply 124January 22, 2021 10:59 AM

He was never really qualified for that job in the first place. The title 'Head Usher' might sound like a figurehead position, but I would think it's almost as important as the position of White House Chief Of Staff. It's not a doorman job, that's for sure.

by Anonymousreply 125January 22, 2021 11:16 AM

The position should only go to bottoms. Perhaps Chasten could have the job.

by Anonymousreply 126January 22, 2021 11:21 AM

Blocking R84 improves your entire experience here

by Anonymousreply 127January 22, 2021 11:22 AM

The news story as others indicate upthread is biased and twisted. The position of White House Usher is traditionally non-partisan; an usher is kept over from one administration to another. Trump fired the previous usher and replaced her with a lackey from his hotel; Jill Biden is sending that guy's ass back to Trumpland and restoring the traditional order of things. So all unreconstructed Trump-suckers can please die in a grease fire.

by Anonymousreply 128January 22, 2021 11:28 AM

And the salary is around 200k, r111.

by Anonymousreply 129January 22, 2021 12:05 PM

Who here has had him?

by Anonymousreply 130January 22, 2021 12:06 PM

None of us wanted that COVID queen r130., especially an unemployed one.

by Anonymousreply 131January 22, 2021 12:22 PM

Another note, Jill, unlike any FL since maybe Barbara Bush has a unique history in DC as a Senator's wife. She wouldn't make these types of moves and risk her husband's image over some petty squabble. There is likely more to this story, but Jill would never be the one to talk about publicly unless this man makes a big stink.

I too think that he was following Trump/Malania's orders and delaying the transition coordination which was completely unacceptable. After January 6th, there is simply no room for the white lies that lead to an insurrection from anyone in the government.

I'm going to trust the wisdom of a woman who's successfully maneuvered through the politics of DC as a Senator's spouse over the tears of a MAGA shop bottom.

by Anonymousreply 132January 22, 2021 12:30 PM

Thanks for the tip about Upstairs at the White House, I just requested it from my local library system

by Anonymousreply 133January 22, 2021 12:56 PM

200K! He was getting more than a Senator and a fraction less than the Speaker. Yes that's a job that should be well vetted and not filled with someone who was certainly recommended to Trump even if Trump did not know him personally.

by Anonymousreply 134January 22, 2021 12:59 PM

[quote] replaced with Mr. Harleth.

They misspelled Miss Harlot.

by Anonymousreply 135January 22, 2021 1:11 PM

R133 you're borrowing books from the library, in a pandemic?

by Anonymousreply 136January 22, 2021 1:11 PM

[quote] there is simply no room for the white lies that lead to an insurrection from anyone in the government.

Oh, dear!

by Anonymousreply 137January 22, 2021 1:12 PM

He was fired hours before the Bidens arrived at the White House. Who knows if it was surprise. In any event, it was up to the next in line to open the damned door.

by Anonymousreply 138January 22, 2021 1:14 PM

He looks like a poor man's Jared Kushner.

Come think of it, Timothy Harlot probably had Jared.

by Anonymousreply 139January 22, 2021 1:18 PM

The door was opened by Marines. They don't show up out of the blue. They were probably watching the video feed to give the Biden's time for a photo outside of the building before opening the doors. I think the delay was due to the video feed so someone got the notice late. You can see in the video above that Hunter was about to tell an aide to open the damn door. I loved his little death stare.

I doubt anyone left inside was trying to play games. The Marines were always going to be the ones to open the doors.

by Anonymousreply 140January 22, 2021 1:25 PM

R139 a lot of things make sense now.

by Anonymousreply 141January 22, 2021 1:25 PM

Another good read is "My Thirty Years Backstairs at the White House" by Lillian Rogers Parks. It was made into a mini-series starring DL fave Cicely Tyson.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 142January 22, 2021 1:26 PM

R142 here, it was Olivia Cole in the miniseries, not Cicely. I stand corrected.

by Anonymousreply 143January 22, 2021 1:31 PM

They should bring back Angellia Reed.

by Anonymousreply 144January 22, 2021 1:37 PM

Is his hole blown out?

by Anonymousreply 145January 22, 2021 1:45 PM

He's the Septimus Spratt of Trump's White House.

by Anonymousreply 146January 22, 2021 1:48 PM

Is that like Sherman Klump?

by Anonymousreply 147January 22, 2021 1:49 PM

R139. Interesting that Melania got Jared a bf. Nice of her.

by Anonymousreply 148January 22, 2021 1:50 PM

[quote] Joe Biden and now his wife Jill are doing their best Donald Trump impressions by firing everyone who crosses his path in the White House it seems.

The author of this article is quite the bitch considering Trump not only fired everyone Obama appointed that he could but a record number of his own appointments considering his promise to only hire the best and the brightest.

by Anonymousreply 149January 22, 2021 1:56 PM

I KNOW THE BEST PEOPLE.

by Anonymousreply 150January 22, 2021 2:14 PM

[quote] So is "Chief Usher" some glorified, jumped-up version of a Butler?

Your ignorance is not attractive.

Please don't comment on matters about which you apparently know nothing.

by Anonymousreply 151January 22, 2021 2:19 PM

The "domestic" staff (butlers, maids, etc.) of the WH are civil servants and do not depart when a new first family arrives.

by Anonymousreply 152January 22, 2021 2:30 PM

This one did.

by Anonymousreply 153January 22, 2021 2:52 PM

R100 is totally wrong. Positions like Chief Usher at the White House have traditionally been apolitical. Previous Chief Ushers have served multiple Presidents of both parties. Previous Chief Ushers have spent as many as 40 years at the job.

It is evil, paranoid dumb dumb Trump--who politicizes everything--who got rid of a perfectly qualified person to hire a flunky.

Now that flunky is gone. Bye bitch!

by Anonymousreply 154January 22, 2021 3:01 PM

Yes, R154, and none of those people were planted by an evil orange wanna-be despot.

by Anonymousreply 155January 22, 2021 3:11 PM

It turns out Trump fired the white house staff before leaving Wednesday morning.

by Anonymousreply 156January 22, 2021 4:54 PM

by Anonymousreply 157January 22, 2021 4:55 PM

FAKE NEWS!!!!

by Anonymousreply 158January 22, 2021 4:56 PM

As a foreigner, I'm always left bewildered by the politicisation of every little tiny public job in America.

I don't know whether this guy was good or bad at his job. Whether he ran an effective and smooth operation.

It just strikes me as completely petty and alien, to dismiss someone from their job, just because of the political opinions they hold. If he was awful at his job, then fair enough, sack him. For a land that professes free speech, it strikes me that that only holds good, if you're work for the winning side, not because you do a bloody good job.

by Anonymousreply 159January 22, 2021 5:16 PM

reminds of me when the Joseph and the staff on Dynasty were rude to the new Mrs. Carrington; Blake summons them all in the middle of the night and humiliates them, FIRES one of them; and they ALL fall into line.

Krystle is devastated that someone lost their job; Blake says: "tomorrow, Joseph will come to me and say the man I fired is very sorry and he'd love to keep his job and I will give it to him and then he'll be grateful; you're rich now and this is how we handle things...and I will teach you....'

Dynasty's first season was unique; Collins was fab as Alexis, but the first season had a very unique tone to it. I loved it.

by Anonymousreply 160January 22, 2021 5:18 PM

Waiting patiently for the OP's apology for posting lies.

by Anonymousreply 161January 22, 2021 5:44 PM

OP posted exactly what was originally reported.

There's been subsequent reporting that corrected the story, yes.

by Anonymousreply 162January 22, 2021 5:52 PM

OP = Magda Geobbels

by Anonymousreply 163January 22, 2021 6:04 PM

So this fake news. Trump fired the Ushers, probably so the Bidens would have no help as they moved in.

by Anonymousreply 164January 22, 2021 6:18 PM

R159, if you read the previous replies, you will notice WHO fired all of the long-term staff at numerous places. It wasn't Obama or Biden.

These non-political jobs were MADE political by a shit flinging traitor who was too paranoid to trust anyone HE hadn't appointed.

This is what tin pot dictators do. They put in unqualified sychopants at every position so they are beholden to "dear leader" for the rest of his reign of terror.

There are numerous positions where the staff has been in place since W or even prior and no other First Family had an issue until these goddamned traitors moved in.

by Anonymousreply 165January 22, 2021 6:36 PM

FF OP. Trump fired him so there would be no one there when they arrived.

Trump is an evil, petty, stupid cunt. And so is OP.

by Anonymousreply 166January 22, 2021 6:38 PM

Poor Jill. Always having to prop up Joe so he doesn't topple like a Jenga tower.

by Anonymousreply 167January 22, 2021 6:42 PM

Fuck off these were hugging and Joe was jogging to three separate reporters 4 minutes before that photo.

by Anonymousreply 168January 22, 2021 6:43 PM

Of course OP used a batshit rightwing website

by Anonymousreply 169January 22, 2021 6:58 PM

R132, You're right. I've never heard of Barbara Bush being petty or spiteful when it came to government employees or staff. On the contrary, the Geo. H.W. Bushes were known to stay home over the holidays so that their Secret Service contingent could be with their own families. His father had been a senator. And they themselves had had years in public service to learn that if they hadn't been raised that way.

Technical point: Bar Bush was never a senator's wife. Her husband had a safe seat as a congressional representative, then ran for senate and lost.

by Anonymousreply 170January 22, 2021 11:33 PM

r170 I meant that she had about as much DC experience as Jill. The structure of my sentence wasn't clear. My apologies.

I reviewed the video again. Seems like the family knew this was not going to plan. Biden and Jill suffered through that entire song, then hugged to kill time. The family was waived up the steps but kept looking back at the staff. Hunter was saying a lot under his mask and looking back with daggers in his eyes. They all did it slick but it could have been a bad start if those doors didn't open or if they were locked out.

by Anonymousreply 171January 23, 2021 12:14 AM

***BREAKING NEWS***

Apparently it was TRUMP who fired the usher, not Jill Biden—and it was part of a larger disruption in which he sent the WH staff home early so no one would be there to let the Bidens in.

Trump is indeed a small man in all but girth.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 172January 23, 2021 2:43 PM

Thank you, R172, for sharing that breaking news using the same article that was posted to this thread YESTERDAY.

by Anonymousreply 173January 23, 2021 3:11 PM

Off topic, but Jill Biden is really cute. She looks like a seventies teen magazine model, it’ll be interesting to watch her style. I’m glad to have that cold Slav gone.

by Anonymousreply 174January 23, 2021 3:21 PM

R172 is a regular Ed fucking Murrow.

by Anonymousreply 175January 23, 2021 3:24 PM

The Ushers and most of the domestic staff tend to remain from one administration to the next as they are regarded as apolitical positions in nature. Unless they have committed a crime, they are rarely fired.

by Anonymousreply 176January 23, 2021 8:21 PM

R176, did you even bother to read the thread?

by Anonymousreply 177January 23, 2021 8:35 PM

Considering what a spiteful, petty cunt Trump is, I'm surprised he didn't have the usher killed, putting his severed head in a basket with a sign saying WELCOME BIDENS.

by Anonymousreply 178January 23, 2021 8:39 PM

R178 you scared my cat!

Well, not you per se, but causing me to burst out suddenly in laughter.

by Anonymousreply 179January 23, 2021 9:04 PM

R178 Trump would have written WELCOME BIDEN'S. He abuses everything else, so I imagine he would also abuse apostrophes.

by Anonymousreply 180January 23, 2021 9:27 PM

The pettiness of the trumps is unbelievable.

by Anonymousreply 181January 23, 2021 9:49 PM

Their pettiness includes briefing against Jill for firing our boy when they did it themselves before they left town before dawn on Wednesday. BTW has the Chief Usher got another job yet?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 182January 23, 2021 11:28 PM

All indications are that the Trump team did everything they could to screw up Biden's move into the White House.

Which begs the question - What did Trump say in the note he left Joe? Can you really imagine that Trump said something nice? Was Joe just deflecting when he said the note was "very generous"? Will Biden every share the contents? I expect he won't.

by Anonymousreply 183January 24, 2021 12:07 AM

Very generous with his b/s. More so than usual.

by Anonymousreply 184January 24, 2021 12:18 AM

Dear Jay,

Fuck you !!

Generously yours,

Donald T. Trump

by Anonymousreply 185January 24, 2021 5:51 AM

Dear Jeo,

I really winded.

You loosed.

But good luck anyway. See you on the golf curse.

Donald
