Sorry, I thought she was some 12 year old who won a contest. Everyone is raving about this girl. Maybe I just hate poetry?
AMANDA GORMAN STOLE THE SHOW???
by Anonymous | reply 51 | January 25, 2021 9:07 AM |
Yes, OP, I'm sure that's it. You hate.... poetry.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | January 21, 2021 10:22 PM |
Yeah, I found it boring. Everyone is raving about her and I think we all know why...
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 21, 2021 10:23 PM |
I agree. Inspiring poetry and great spoken word performance. Imagine having to perform your poetry in front of those people and this event? She is brilliant.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 21, 2021 10:25 PM |
Fuck of you racist cunt. That was a great reading and spot on.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 21, 2021 10:29 PM |
I liked her performance, and I liked her even more after seeing her interview with Anderson Cooper. Very mature and gracious -- especially considering her age. With time and a little more worldliness, her work will become even more polished and sophisticated.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 21, 2021 10:31 PM |
Where do you get 12 years old? She's 23, Harvard grad.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 21, 2021 10:32 PM |
Her "poetry" is amateurish, immature drivel which included two references to lyrics from Hamilton. She is overpraised and relishing it and will have a hard time later in life.
Sometimes when the wrappings fall There's nothing underneath at all
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 21, 2021 10:33 PM |
I was more moved when Darlene read her poem to her class and made Roseann cry.

Were you expecting Kublai Khan from a 22-year-old, Michiko Kakutani? I smell bitter grapes.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 21, 2021 10:34 PM |
R4 = has never read any Langston Hughes, but thinks you're a Klansman if you don't genuflect before banal, artless pab for fraus to put on their Facebook pages.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 21, 2021 10:38 PM |
OP, what did you at the Inauguration? Oh, that's right: NOTHING.
But tell us about these individuals: Biden, Harris, Gorman, Ossoff and Warnock.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 21, 2021 10:38 PM |
I wasn’t impressed. I found both the poem and the reading a little florid and maybe even a little judgements. Very entitled black privilege. Exactly the kind of thing that will lose the Dems the senate in two years and the whitehouse in 4.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 21, 2021 10:39 PM |
I found both the poem and the reading a little florid and maybe even a little judgements.
Maybe Miss Gorman can teach you proper English.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 21, 2021 10:41 PM |
She was gorgeous and inspiring and talented. She set the perfect tone.
OP is fat.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 21, 2021 10:43 PM |
OP here. I AM Black. Sorry - the over hype of this girl makes me cringe.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 21, 2021 10:43 PM |
Apparently OP’s blackness immunizes her from ALL criticism. OP has spoken!
End of all threads, EVER.
Were you expecting Kublai Khan from a 22-year-old, Michiko Kakutani?
Rimbaud had retired by that age.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 21, 2021 10:47 PM |
Rimbaud had retired by that age.
Yeah, well, he also died at age 37, so there's that.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 21, 2021 10:49 PM |
When they announced her name I was expecting Amanda Borden.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 21, 2021 10:50 PM |
I liked it - not groundbreaking poetry but so nice to see someone under 75 on the stage. She had energy and freshness that no one else had. Especially the sad spectacle of Amy Klobuchar acting like an emcee of a comedy show.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 21, 2021 10:51 PM |
I found it long and tedious but I'm not into poetry so there's that.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 21, 2021 10:55 PM |
I thought it was fine, with moments of amazing. But poetry doesn’t usually have staying power.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 21, 2021 11:15 PM |
R17 No, it just immunizes him from having "RACIST!" shrieked at him by shitstains like R1 and R4.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 21, 2021 11:20 PM |
R16, being black does not give you a pass. We all know that some black people are self-hating coons who would support a Klansman before they would a black person.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 21, 2021 11:36 PM |
Hm, I wonder what's more racist, r25 - disliking a poem, or calling people "coons". Tough call.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 21, 2021 11:51 PM |
Ms Gorman was the most interesting person of the program. JLo baby voicing through a kindergarten version of This Land Is Your Land was putrid, turned her off, Gaga blah blah, Garth Brooks meh, longwinded "invocation" guy also was muted (and seemed to go on much longer than AG).
AG represented youth. When have young people been given a voice at an inauguration? Young people are discussed and made use of but rarely allowed to speak for themselves on such a stage.
Tough shit if you don't like it.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 22, 2021 12:16 AM |
23 yo WOMAN and Harvard Graduate. Why does everyone speak of this person like she is some widdle cleber so cutie black gurll.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 22, 2021 1:06 AM |
Because Dems go to far the other way and treat black people with kid gloves, they talk about the "black vote". Equality means they be treated the same everyone else, the girl was above average and if she were white it would've been a forgotten moment.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 22, 2021 1:13 AM |
They talk about the “black vote” because politicians of another color suppress it.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 22, 2021 1:20 AM |
I liked it about as much as I can enjoy such things....a little.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 22, 2021 2:21 AM |
R26, if you want to call me racist for calling Clarence Thomas and other black folk of his ilk coons, I own it!
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 22, 2021 6:29 PM |
OP, what did you at the Inauguration? Oh, that's right: NOTHING.
Well, what did you do at Trump's inauguration? Oh that's right: NOTHING. But I'm sure you felt free to criticize it (as we all did) just the same.
Yours is a [bold]STUPID[/bold] argument.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 22, 2021 6:33 PM |
OP here. I AM Black.
Whatever you say, dear.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 22, 2021 6:41 PM |
She added Diversity, Inclusivity, and Empowerment to the proceedings!

OMG, I literally thought it was "kit gloves." I can think of at least two client meetings where I said kit gloves. Thank God I've never typed it until now.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | January 22, 2021 10:13 PM |
The young woman is a star. Deal with it hags.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 22, 2021 11:13 PM |
You’re probably a closet racist like my mom. But yeh, I’m sure it’s just because you “hate poetry.”
by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 22, 2021 11:26 PM |
R29 Oh, dear - you should refrain from commenting until you learn to spell.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 22, 2021 11:30 PM |
I was NOT into the poem but then I watched her interview with Anderson Cooper and became a fan. She came off as extremely bright, likable and sweet.
I can’t get into poetry. I find it so obnoxious. But she’s a star.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 23, 2021 12:07 AM |
Time to rep that first world status. I hate poetry too. But we need to represent culture, education and some fucking class after 4 years in the gutter. THE US is being looked down on and pitied by our allies and mocked by our enemies.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 23, 2021 12:39 AM |
What r42 said.
I really can't stand poetry but I recognize that it is art, and we needed that up there, especially from a young voice.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 23, 2021 1:26 AM |
I loved it too BUT this trend { the last 10 years especially } of poets and their delivery inflections makes me crazy! It's poetry delivery abuse.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | January 25, 2021 4:36 AM |
The occasion of having a poet speak at an inauguration is an acknowledgment of culture, and for that I was very happy she was included. The poem itself was nothing special and the gesticulating odd. But brava for trying it out. Let’s just hope it doesn’t become a fad.
Was it just me or did anyone else think she dressed like she was in The Lego Movie?
by Anonymous | reply 45 | January 25, 2021 5:16 AM |
Nothing new or special, but people were/are craving the antithesis of a Republican.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | January 25, 2021 5:22 AM |
Her poem was bad. If even one of the commentators had said, "Meh." while the others were busy falling all over themselves to praise her and her poem they would have been immediately tagged as a racist just like so many of you did to the OP. Did any of you go read the poem? It's crap.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | January 25, 2021 6:54 AM |
Woof woof!
by Anonymous | reply 48 | January 25, 2021 6:57 AM |
Here, you can read all of the inaugural poems ever written. Judge for yourselves.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | January 25, 2021 7:19 AM |
If you are able to notice the rhyme schemes and clever illiteration, it was very good. I enjoyed it. Not everyone can appreciate poetry, just like some cannot appreciated a good wine.
She is very beautiful, too.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | January 25, 2021 8:51 AM |
