Off the rails: Behind Trump's post-election meltdown
[quote]Beginning on election night 2020 and continuing through his final days in office, Donald Trump unraveled and dragged America with him, to the point that his followers sacked the U.S. Capitol with two weeks left in his term. This Axios special series takes you inside the collapse of a president.
They're up to article number four, and a weekly podcast also starts today.

From the third article:
[quote]President Trump was sitting in the Oval Office one day in late November when a call came in from lawyer Sidney Powell. "Ugh, Sidney," he told the staff in the room before he picked up. "She's getting a little crazy, isn't she? She's really gotta tone it down. No one believes this stuff. It's just too much."
I'm dying to know who told Axios about this exchange.

On the night of the election he was sitting in a chair by himself saying "I won, I won, I won, I won". I predict his final scene will be like Sunset Blvd.

The section R1 quotes is from the episode titled ‘Descent into Madness.’
Hilarious and terrifying in equal measures.

The "Descent into Madness" article implies Trump went from being reasonably sane to completely nutball because he lost the election, but I don't know if that's true. I'm not sure Trump himself knows where his sanity ends and his psychopathy begins.

From the final article, Miss Lindsey strikes again:
[quote]Pence and members of the leadership had been whisked out while the rest of the senators remained in their seats. Staffers lined the chamber wall. When it came their time to evacuate, many left personal belongings — and even some cellphones — behind.
[quote]One of the parliamentarians, Leigh Hildebrand, knew to grab the mahogany boxes containing the Electoral College votes. This was precious cargo, and it was crucial to keep the historic paperwork out of marauders' hands.
[quote]Wedged into a single-file line, the unwieldy group moved from the Senate chambers down a narrow stairwell. Police and heavily armed agents blocked off doors and hallways. Some of the younger staffers cried.
[quote]As the line stalled, Sen. Lindsey Graham wandered over to a set of large windows overlooking a courtyard. A parade of blue Trump flags floated by. "Lindsey!" another senator snapped. "Get away from the window."
...
[quote]Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Michael Stenger grabbed a microphone to give an update. He looked pale and shocked. He tried to speak, but his voice kept breaking. He tapped the microphone several times and cleared his throat but the words wouldn't come out.
[quote]Graham lost it. "This is ridiculous!" he shouted. "You all need to use every resource and every weapon to take back the Senate. Get these thugs out of here!"
[quote]"Shut up!" Sen. Sherrod Brown shot back, from behind the dais. "Shut up, let him speak!" A police officer took over, as Stenger retreated.

They stole the election, no judge wanted to entertain a case that would result in “overturning” the results an election, not to mention they only had weeks to put forward their legal challenges, then Democrats and NeverTrumpers staged this “coup” attempt to make Trump look bad, justify an impeachment to prevent him from running again, and to make Joe Biden’s transition into power smoother.

R10: sad, delusional Trumptard.
What kind of psychological damage do you have to possess, R10, to want to suck Donald Trump's cock and lick his fat, white, entitled asshole so badly that you have to make up fairy tales in order to get through the day.

It goes without saying, so I'll say it- the parallels with Hitler in the Bunker are really valid! Read Albert Speer's Battle with the Truth by Gitta Sereny- a great writer- for a vivid picture of another despots' end.

If any election was “stolen”, it was 2016 that put this crazy person in the White House with help from his buddy Vlad. There was evidence of interference including hacking of electronic voting machines which are apparently very easy to hack. But Hillary wasn’t going to tear the country apart like this one did. She accepted it and moved on and told her supporters that he was the elected president. 2020 was probably the most honest election in our history.

I remember reading years ago an account of Nixon's final days in the White House. He couldn't sleep and would wander the corridors at all hours crying and addressing loud defenses for his actions to the portraits of former Presidents hanging on the walls.

To me the most egregious thing was his discovery that Covid would cause a switch to mass mail-in voting, so he appointed a crony to trash the USPS as fast as possible. That alone should be impeachable.
None of his Deplorables perceive any of his devious deeds to be unacceptable, because they're all criminals like him. I can't wait to see a large chunk of them go to prison.

The very fact that he had a rally down the street from the Capitol on that day is all the evidence you need for inciting a riot. He deliberately drew hordes to Washington to cause chaos. Then his operatives took control to storm the Capitol building and capture politicians.

There are many who feel like many states didn't follow their own voting protocols during this election. It is a fact that has been acknowledged. When you look at how Trump was investigated from day one for impeachment or worse and it didn't stop through his entire term what would you think.

R24
GOP estabsliment did all the could to keep DT from being the nominee, and they felt sure he would lose once chosen. Sadly for them and rest of us democrats wouldn't be told about Hillary Clinton, and the woman didn't fail to disappoint.
Once DT won the WH it was clear things were just that; *HE* won, not the GOP party in general. Point was further driven home by those Nazi style rallies DT had all across USA for months after his inauguration.
DT was the "white man's great last hope" in that certain segments of GOP party who wanted to take things back and away from RINO saw the guy as their savior. Trump didn't fail to throw them red meat; rolling back all sorts of regulations and protections , packing courts with conservative judges, suddenly getting religion (from where God only knows) and siding with moral majority/religious right.
Well the Lord works in mysterious ways, and had it not been for covid-19 DT likely would have won a second term to finish off this country. Having chased away and or out moderate GOP the party is left with pretty much kooks and cranks. Thus they find themselves now exactly in same place as 2016; Biden will be Obama II administration so battle begins anew.
Republicans would love nothing more than to push DT and the loose confederation of tribes he calls supporters to the side. But just as with the moral majority then Tea Party GOP cannot afford to alienate any large group of republican leaning voters.
The next one and half hears in run up to 2022 mid-term elections should show where GOP's heads are at by candidates who run in various congressional or local elections.

"Donald Trump’s denial of election results was undeniably and demonstrably worse by several orders of magnitude. But Bernie’s candidacy and the baseless questioning of the primary election results, by not only him but his high-profile surrogates which he promoted and had campaign for him — including some of his own staff — helped set a precedent that Donald Trump capitalized on and took advantage of. Trump and the Russian government used this narrative to appeal to disaffected Bernie supporters and people within the broader electorate willing to believe in such claims".
I have noticed a crossover trend, in that the Sanders supporters who strongly believed he was disenfranchised by the Dems became rabidly anti-Biden and anti-government conspiracists. It was annoying in 2016 but after years of escalating far-right rhetoric and violence, not to mention 300,000+ dead in 2020, they really thought letting Trump burn the country to the ground was preferable to a Biden/Democratic presidency. It's sick and they haven't stopped campaigning, either.
My response is always the same: How are you contributing to the effort for ranked-choice voting? Are you just whining and doing nothing but subverting the Democratic process?
We have so many people existing in alternative reality.

Amen R16. We weren't happy at all about trump's win, but outside of a "pussyhat" peaceful protest in Washington, and other protests....there was no violence and a storming the Capitol insurrection for a coup. We moved on, as difficult as that was. The insurrection is unforgivable.

R44, Bernie and Trump are both populist rabble-rousers. This is what they do. Read up on Mexican president AMLO - same thing, starting back in 2006 when he declared himself the ”real president" after losing the election by a slim margin.

Running government was for a revolving door of fireable staff - who were given just enough autonomy to take liability off the shoulders of Trump.
It’s a fiduciary responsibility that only works with like-minded douche canoes.
He really does play this like “Ghost Ship” where he manipulates everyone into screwing one another over until he’s the only one standing.
