Honey, that cast wouldn’t cut it on Netflix. Beyoncé IS Phyllis.

No one wants to hear La LuPone try to warble her way thorough Buddy's Eyes or Too Many Mornings.

Brendad Ickson IS Solange La Fitte!!
Eh bien, bonjour!

How about nobody. How about they never make a film of Follies and if anyone threatens to make one they get sentenced to death?

Tracy Ullman and Rowan Atkinson as the Whitmans.

I think they should get Tina Louise for Carlotta. Now that she's the lone survivor of the Minnow, her "I'm Still Here" will be especially poignant!

No. Just. No. Beautiful -- stunning score. But the premise/story/book are so dated/of their time. If you made a film of this today, everyone would be like "WTF -- just get a fucking a divorce and move on!"
Not to mention that it would have to be set in the 70s still and only the audiences of the 70s would really understand the cultural allusions and references to the 20s-40s that lie at the heart of the ghost stories of these peoples' pasts.
It's a period piece of a period piece.
It's also a lot of stand downstage and sing. Inherently UNcinematic.
Just... let it go, guys. Enjoy the show and the revivals. A film would be terrible.

Agree with R17, but for the hell of it, Pfeiffer for Carlotta and Midler for Hattie.

Sadly, R17 is right. The dream of a Follies film will always be better than any Follies film that could be made.

People have said the same about stage productions but the London production by the National Theatre proved that the property can still be done well. And anyone who thinks FOLLIES isn't filmic... hasn't a fucking clue.

It may be interesting to cast African American actors as Buddy and Sally, adding to the reasons asshole Ben chooses Phyllis.
