Indie Rocker Ariel Pink Interviewed By Tucker Carlson on Fox

This interview is soooo 2021, in the sense that NOTHING about it makes any sense. Lo-Fi pioneer Ariel Pink gets interviewed by Tucker Carlson to bemoan cancel culture, but it's so totally bizarre, that you don't come away remembering the reason for the interview. Pink went on Fox to discuss his experience of being suddenly "cancelled" by life (lol) because he is a Trump supporter and because he was at the Trump rally on January 6th. His label dropped him in the aftermath.

It gets weirder though. In the interview, Pink talks about how he's basically going to be on the street now because he can't tour (that's Covid, not being "cancelled" hunty). And boo hoo he can't record now either (why can't you record, mister lo-fi bedroom recording pioneer??). This fucker has a net worth listed at $14 million dollars on those celeb net worth sites. Even if it's only half of that in real life, he's still a multi-millionaire. Oh and his dad is a multi-milllionaire, and he grew up in Beverly Hills. Why is this bitch complaining about being potentially put on the street?!

Ariel Pink is also, as we speak, being sued by an ex-bandmate and girlfriend for Shia/Armie type stuff. That does not come up in conversation with Tucker. He certainly doesn't surmise that this could be an equally compelling reason for his label to drop him.

Finally, watch the video, if only to watch Tucker Carlson feign compassion and curiosity for a musician he has never listened to, and whom he wouldn't even glance at in the street if that person were being attacked or in need of CPR. This is some weird, crazy, funny voodoo right here. Any fans? Are you surprised someone as weird and creative as Ariel Pink could vote for Trump?

by Anonymousreply 41January 20, 2021 6:08 AM

I weep for him truly. Tucker has some weird guests on. I remember when he first got his own show watching it just cause I was curious and he had some fat acceptance person on. Right wingers these days are truly unhinged.

by Anonymousreply 1January 17, 2021 5:47 AM

I was a fan until this happened. Luckily, his music is generic-hipstery enough that he’s easily replaced with Tame Impala, etc...

Glad his label dropped him immediately.

by Anonymousreply 2January 17, 2021 5:48 AM

He's worth $14 million dollars eh?

He can get his own fucking studio and record any time he wants to. Then he can sign with a small label or do it himself. What a liar.

by Anonymousreply 3January 17, 2021 5:55 AM

Here's the link. I too, was a fan of many years. I'm so turned off now. What a wimp!

THE TRUMPERS ARE THE SNOWFLAKES.

Lol what a whiney bitch. I laughed at how unsympathetic Tucker seemed saying things like “are you worried this will destroy you?”

by Anonymousreply 6January 17, 2021 6:03 AM

R6 I KNOW that was for sure the funniest aspect of the interview. Tucker was such a concern troll.

by Anonymousreply 7January 17, 2021 6:08 AM

He seems unwashed.

“I began dating [Pink] in 2015, when I was 19 and [Pink] was 38,” the declaration by Coe continued. “It was a tumultuous relationship, characterized by a power imbalance: [Pink] was 19 years older than me; [Pink] was famous, and I was not; [Pink] was established in the music business, while I was just beginning my music career.”

Also in the October 14 declaration, Coe alleged that Pink “bullied [her] into [having] unprotected sex with him,” and that he “infected [her] with herpes after [the two] had unprotected sex.” Coe claimed that, in 2018, she discovered that Pink had “illegally distributed naked pictures” of her “to some of his fans.” She further alleged that while she was in a relationship with Pink, she received messages from a girl who claimed to be under the age of 18 asserting that Pink had flirted with her. Coe claimed in the declaration, too, that after she and Pink broke up in 2018, his alleged “abuse continued,” including harassment at her home and constant texting.

“Feeling empowered by the #MeToo movement, in July 2020, I finally found the strength to call out [Pink]’s abuse,” Coe’s declaration reads. “On Twitter, I explained that I was afraid to speak out for so long, but I felt compelled to tell my followers that [Pink] is, in fact, an abuser.”

In the declaration, Coe also acknowledged writing to Mexican Summer. She claimed she had learned the label “was adopting a zero tolerance policy toward abuse and harassment.” (In July 2020, Mexican Summer pulled Los Angeles band Part Time’s music, citing abuse allegations.) An email attached as an exhibit along with Coe’s declaration, and included with Pink’s initial petition, appears to show Coe writing on July 29, 2020, to Keith Abrahamsson, Mexican Summer’s co-founder. “I haven’t been able to speak up because me and my family so badly want him to just leave us alone but I think he puts other people at risk,” the email reads. “He is 10000% a predator.” In the email, Coe also claimed that Pink offered her $10,000 to never mention “pornographic images and video” of her that Pink allegedly shared with fans. “Early on in our relationship I had to call someone to ask if he had raped me because I was so upset by him not listening to me saying no to unprotected sex but tricked me in to it for a matter of seconds anyway,” she wrote. (Abrahamsson declined to comment to Pitchfork.)"

Ariel (Rosenberg) Pink's views on gay marriage: : “I’m very old fashioned, very traditional in my values. I don’t understand what all this gay marriage stuff is about, it really pisses me off,” he said. “I don’t really even support marriage, per se.” He did later add in an aside: “I love gays, by the way.”

by Anonymousreply 10January 17, 2021 8:28 AM

“'I never rallied against climate science, but you really do have to wonder now if all of that stuff was bullshit. And in my opinion it probably is. Because literally everything the Democrats stand for, every single platform, is bullshit.' He also stated that he’s argued with his doctor father about the COVID-19 vaccine, saying it doesn’t stop people from catching the virus, only from displaying symptoms. He finished off that appearance by saying that the Democrats stole the 2020 election..."

Wow I honestly thought this guy was way more out-there, open and creative than his this. Stunned.

It’s an aesthetic pose, meant to do little more than make a certain kind of person angry or alarmed. It’s also not out of character. Pink has based his career on triggering those who he considers soft: He once said that he appreciated being bullied because it made him thick-skinned, and one said in an LA Weekly profile that, “Anyone who is crying about police brutality or victimization as an adult needs to stop it and realize the privileges we have in this country.”

The irony is that this particular strain of Trump support also happens to be shot through with an intense desire for victimhood. As you can see in the interview, Pink is just exasperated that someone might not want to do business with him anymore because he’s the kind of asshole who would attend a Trump rally. [bold] “People are so mean,” he moans.

by Anonymousreply 12January 17, 2021 8:32 AM

Barf.

R12 nails it. This guy has always been like this. Super phony. At least 90's/00's indie cohorts like the members of Black Dice and Jennifer Herrema can run against the grain in interviews and sound like individuals, even messy ones, without falling into the trap of aligning themselves with the Proud Boys, etc. Now he ends up on Tucker Carlson's show. I'm sure he thinks it's "funny." What a chump. Who's surprised to hear he's worth 14 million? If that's even true.

by Anonymousreply 13January 17, 2021 8:47 AM

Maybe he shouldn’t have rioted and broke into the Capitol

by Anonymousreply 14January 17, 2021 12:23 PM

These people claiming they've been cancelled always -- and I mean ALWAYS -- lie about the impact the so-called "cancellation" has had on their lives, because the actual "cancellation" didn't really change anything for them.

Trumpsters lie to make themselves look like victims. They resent actual victims because they often get sympathy and empathy and help, three things that are anathema to the typical GOPer/Trump supporter. Trumpsters get resentful and decide the victim must be scamming, because that's what they themselves would do.

When the opportunity presents itself to play victim, the GOPer/Trumpster will jump at it, asking for sympathy and money and all sorts of things that they honestly don't need. If that means they have to go on national TV and lie about being destitute and alone, they'll do it with gusto.

by Anonymousreply 15January 17, 2021 12:36 PM

Maybe McBonbgo can lend him a few bucks.

by Anonymousreply 16January 17, 2021 1:08 PM

This makes me sad I love that song Baby

Bit confused by the OP labelling Pink a “pioneer”! He hasn’t pioneered shit

by Anonymousreply 19January 17, 2021 1:17 PM

I know R18 but I still love his version

by Anonymousreply 20January 17, 2021 3:59 PM

He is fat.

by Anonymousreply 21January 17, 2021 4:05 PM

I don’t know who this guy is but he’s pretty gross

by Anonymousreply 22January 17, 2021 5:38 PM

He sounds a little "special"

by Anonymousreply 23January 17, 2021 5:45 PM

The 14million is because he is a trust fund baby. He has a punchable face. His view that he doesn't want to be toed down by marriage but he's also super traditional so doesn't want gays to get married isn't that unusual in striaght dudes and completely expected based on his ex's comments.

Also this is the what 225th? urban millionaire born with a silver spoon up his ass who has been embraced by the Deplorable idiots as men of the people who are on their side. Little trust fund shits from Beverly Hills, Trump and his gold toilet....and they think 'this is us?' They deserve them.

by Anonymousreply 24January 17, 2021 5:52 PM

He’s utterly loathesome.

by Anonymousreply 25January 17, 2021 5:57 PM

in 2014, Interscope reached out to him to work for hire on Madonna's ill fated Rebel Heart. He immediately dragged her on twitter and Grimes replied and shut him down. Then Guy Oseary told the world he and Madonna have never heard of him.

Sounds like a frustrated clout chaser.

by Anonymousreply 26January 17, 2021 6:02 PM

R26 wow I never heard about that. Not that I follow anyone on Twitter or anywhere else. I am into the lo-fi genre; I’m a huge R. Stevie Moore fan. I got to know R. Stevie just prior to his collab with Ariel Pink (several years ago now). R. Stevie sent me a copy of that record. That’s how I learned of Pink. I liked a couple of Pink’s albums a lot, and I even covered one of his songs a few years ago. But I didn’t spend time reading about the guy or keeping track of his career. Certainly didn’t know he was from Beverly fucking Hills money, or that he was a conservative.

One thing has always been clear, though. Ariel Pink has always looked greasy and dirty, and is ugly as absolute sin. But I would never hold that against someone...unless their insides matched their outsides. Which seems to be the case here.

by Anonymousreply 27January 17, 2021 6:21 PM

“Are you afraid this will DESTROY you as a person?” Tucker hoping for a ratings booster suicide following the interview.

by Anonymousreply 28January 18, 2021 3:47 AM

I’ve heard he’s really generous... with his meth... if you’re a barely-legal girl...

by Anonymousreply 29January 18, 2021 4:08 AM

[quote] I too, was a fan of many years

Why, OP? Didn't you realise?

by Anonymousreply 30January 18, 2021 4:29 AM

What a tool. “Cancel-culture mob” doesn’t exist. Except in the heads of pasty-faced snowflakes like this guy. You know what’s a mob? The screaming, flag-waving terrorists who stormed the Capitol. Like this knob.

by Anonymousreply 31January 18, 2021 7:08 AM

R30 No, I didn't realize. Cuz I didn't delve. I wasn't heavily invested in him as a personality, I just like a couple albums that I was turned onto. These two records were particularly lo-fi sounding and that sound and the quirkiness sort of inspired my own recording process for a second. All I ever I knew really beyond these two albums was that he did appear to be very grimy and unattractive looking. I figured he might very well be a dick but I never in a million zillion years would have pinned him as a Trump supporter. That's some next level dickishness. Not very punk rock, Ariel Pink! What a wanker.

by Anonymousreply 32January 18, 2021 7:25 AM

And that shit about him sharing nude pix of his then-girlfriend WITH FANS screams "Yay I'm not an Incel anymore! Here's the proof, guys!"

by Anonymousreply 33January 18, 2021 7:27 AM

Never heard of him. How's that for canccelled? I love the way they edit an interview like this. Single camera, they do two shots one close up of celeb interviewed, then wide shot of them both, and cutaways of the talent reacting and saying something witty---that the subject celeb never hears. so phony.

by Anonymousreply 34January 18, 2021 7:40 AM

Sorry R34 I’m the last person to sing Ariel Pink’s praises but if you’ve never even heard of him you’re obviously a total philistine :(

by Anonymousreply 35January 18, 2021 5:47 PM

"It gets weirder though. In the interview, Pink talks about how he's basically going to be on the street now because he can't tour (that's Covid, not being "cancelled" hunty)."

Yes, it's COVID that's shut the concert industry down, and it's fucking Trump who worked against every public health policy that might have kept the pandemic under control and allowed things to open up earlier.

These goddamn right-wing snowflake idiots absolutely refuse to see the truth about their leaders, or how the policies they support come back and hurt the people who voted for them.

by Anonymousreply 36January 18, 2021 11:39 PM

I always thought he was bisexual. Someone said that a long, long time ago. Strange to learn that’s apparently not true (anymore)?

Anyway, there’s no fucking way that guy ever made millions from his music. Absolutely no way. If he’s a trust fund kid, that’s different. It also makes it highly unlikely he’s going to be homeless now, as others have said.

But anyway, those celebrity net worth websites and figures are always totally exaggerated and ridiculous.

Even sadder than Rosenberg’s political bent is learning that John Maus (who is a certified sweetheart) apparently shares those views, and attended the rally that led to the insurrection with Rosenberg.

by Anonymousreply 37January 19, 2021 3:51 AM

r35: I think I'm just old. All I listen to is 60's and 70's rock with blues and jazz from all eras. If thats philistinic, blame it on a classical education and voice training.

by Anonymousreply 38January 20, 2021 3:42 AM

R37 My impression is that they did not follow the crowd to the capital but rather went back to their hotel after the rally. But that could also be a lie. Because Pink said it. Whereas Maus I believe, posted on SM about "almost getting killed" in the chaos or something. I sense that regardless, they did not enter the Capital. I'm still repulsed any way you slice it. How can anyone who is in any way unique or creative no see through Trump, who is neither?

by Anonymousreply 39January 20, 2021 3:52 AM

Ariel Pink made some good music but he makes my skin crawl. He also looks like Perez Hilton, which might be worse than all the other stuff.

by Anonymousreply 40January 20, 2021 4:24 AM

R40 THANK YOU I'd been trying to figure it out who he reminded me of, and you have nailed it. Perez. Eek.
