At what age did your hangovers go from annoying to unbearable?

As in, "Never drinking again" unbearable?

OMG ouch.

by Anonymousreply 29September 11, 2021 3:09 AM

45, 45, 50, 55, 60, 64.... that did it.

by Anonymousreply 1January 16, 2021 11:07 PM

I’ve never really had hangovers.

by Anonymousreply 2January 16, 2021 11:11 PM

r2, why

by Anonymousreply 3January 16, 2021 11:12 PM

I gave up drinking for good in my late 20s. I realized that, in addition to the daily hangovers (yes I had a problem), getting drunk every day was exacerbating my anxiety. The hangovers I could deal with: a little coffee and a couple of cigarettes and I was ready for the day. But nothing could quiet the anxiety except more booze.

by Anonymousreply 4January 16, 2021 11:17 PM

Lucky I guess. I always drink a ton of water and usually make sure I have a couple glasses before going to bed.!

by Anonymousreply 5January 16, 2021 11:23 PM

I never have them. I think the cheaper the liquor, the worse the hangover. I drink decent scotch. I start neat and start to water it down the closer I get to the end.

My favorite drinking hole is a pool joint and my regular guy knows the drill.

by Anonymousreply 6January 16, 2021 11:26 PM

i had 10 years of horrific hangovers(and lack of good sleep) nearly daily and still went to work. Pure hell. quit at 57 yrs old

by Anonymousreply 7January 16, 2021 11:26 PM

I guess around 38. I'm pushing 40 and stopped regularly drinking several months ago. As a matter of fact, I haven't had a drink of alcohol this year. My ability to recover has greatly diminished....and getting drunk isn't worth it.

by Anonymousreply 8January 16, 2021 11:40 PM

I’m 49 and for me it was last year. I didn’t even drink that much. A bottle of wine on a Friday/Saturday. The occasional night out for cocktails every couple of months. But I stopped drinking in September. Don’t miss it at all. That said, once we can travel again I’ll drink wine in Europe. But that’s it. It’s so not worth it.

by Anonymousreply 9January 17, 2021 12:10 AM

I’ve never had one.

by Anonymousreply 10January 17, 2021 12:15 AM

I was hungover this morning. A glass of wine made me feel much better.

by Anonymousreply 11January 17, 2021 12:20 AM

28.

by Anonymousreply 12January 17, 2021 12:25 AM

I chug 32 Oz of water before bed and don’t get hangovers.

by Anonymousreply 13January 17, 2021 12:32 AM

Late thirties. The hangovers were becoming brutal, all-day affairs. And like the above poster I was getting horrible anxiety along with it. I stopped drinking completely because it was just too much for me to go through.

by Anonymousreply 14January 17, 2021 12:48 AM

They always go from unbearable to unnoticeable once I do a line of coke in the morning.

by Anonymousreply 15January 17, 2021 12:51 AM

I find that if I have tap beer or vodka at a bar, I often feel like shit the next day. This isn't the case if I drink bottled beer or vodka I drink at home.

by Anonymousreply 16January 17, 2021 12:56 AM

It wasn't the hangovers it was the stupid behaviors. I still drink socially but I can't even remember the last time I was actually drunk.

by Anonymousreply 17January 17, 2021 12:56 AM

They been bad for long time but I hide consumption good. When I do not feel best I use body double....

by Anonymousreply 18January 17, 2021 12:59 AM

Now, at the age of 55. Two drinks is my absolute limit, and even that will give me a slight hangover the next morning. I think I'm gonna give up drinking altogether.

by Anonymousreply 19September 11, 2021 1:07 AM

39, 40

by Anonymousreply 20September 11, 2021 1:10 AM

If I were to drink all that water I'd have to get up and piss every hour. For me, 45 is when I just didn't recover for a couple of days and haven't been drunk in 15 years.

by Anonymousreply 21September 11, 2021 1:22 AM

Age 40. I go weeks and weeks now without having a drink. But I haven’t gone totally sober. I get a little louche around the holidays and, like r9, when I’m in Europe I drink wine and a beer or two if we hit a gay bar. Otherwise, I now focus on reading more books and exercising like crazy. Never felt better in my whole life.

by Anonymousreply 22September 11, 2021 1:24 AM

R18, I don't think you're hiding it as well as you think.

by Anonymousreply 23September 11, 2021 1:24 AM

I quit social drinking by the time I was in my mid-forties, the hangovers and the headaches were not worth it anymore.

by Anonymousreply 24September 11, 2021 1:27 AM

I've had little to no desire to drink much for years now, but when I did it I had my traditional hangover cure, which was to take two Advil and drink two huge glasses of water before bed. Then, when I inevitably got up in the middle of the night to pee, to drink two more big glasses of water. That seems to blunt most, but not all, of the hangover impact.

by Anonymousreply 25September 11, 2021 1:28 AM

Late 30s. The hangovers were becoming excruciating, just painful. I couldn't drink anymore, at all. The fun of being intoxicated was just not worth the unbearable hangover that would inevitably happen the next day. I stopped drinking more easily than I thought I would, and I don't miss it at all.

by Anonymousreply 26September 11, 2021 2:22 AM

I basically quit around 45 but the last time I got really drunk was on my 50th and that was a 3 day hangover. Havent had a drink since and Im 60. Dont miss it at all but I do smoke copious amounts of pot though.

by Anonymousreply 27September 11, 2021 2:28 AM

Late 20s. Mid thirties were just unjustifiable. Week long hangovers with lingering depression and crushing anxiety. Can’t do it.

by Anonymousreply 28September 11, 2021 3:06 AM

The anxiety was the worst! And as others have said the only thing to help the anxiety was more booze, and it was just a vicious cycle. I had to quit, it was driving me crazy.
