Local newspapers turn on Lauren Boebert as 68 state politicians demand investigation into Capitol riot role

The demand for an investigation into Lauren Boebert gained traction after 68 elected officials from Colorado wrote to House speaker Nancy Pelosi, condemning the representative’s alleged association with “right-wing groups that supported the insurrection of Capitol Building."

Ms Boebert is the representative for Colorado's third congressional district in Congress.

“We have heard overwhelmingly from our constituents, therefore her constituents, that there is deep concern about her actions leading up to and during the protests that turned into a violent deadly mob," said the letter signed by officials, including mayors, county commissioners and town council members, reported the Steamboat Pilot & Today newspaper.

Ms Boebert had tweeted details about the location of Speaker Pelosi during the 6 January attack on the US Capitol that had left five people dead. “We were locked in the House Chambers,” she wrote, followed shortly with, “The Speaker has been removed from the chambers," even as several House members confirmed that they were instructed to not share their location in the building.

The lawmaker, who had supported president Donald Trump’s claim of election fraud, is also being slammed by local news outlets for her role in the Capitol breach.

“Boebert is using her office to damage the US. We can’t imagine that’s what her constituents had in mind when they elected her just a few months ago,” wrote the Denver Post, in a stinging editorial on Thursday. “Coloradans — especially her constituents — need definitive answers about whether she was a hapless victim of Trump’s actions or whether she was a participant in an effort to prevent the peaceful transition of power,” it said.

Ms Boebert, while condoning the Capitol riot had said: “I denounced the violence over the summer just as I did the recent events at the Capitol. I defended our Constitution and I always will."

However, she is under fire for disclosing the location of lawmakers which could have put their lives in danger.

"So were we in the House. @laurenboebert was told by the Sergeant of Arms in the chamber to not make any social media posts. It was said repeatedly. She defied it because she is more closely aligned with the terrorists than the patriots," wrote Representative Eric Swalwell, who was housed with Ms Boebert during the siege.

Senator Brian Schatz of Hawaii also supported an investigation into congressional members who were coordinating with or aiding the rioters.

"It’s not clear to what extent the rioters were coordinating operationally with government officials, so we ought to be extremely careful in this line of inquiry," he said. "But we must discover which elected and appointed officials, if any, and which civil servants were helping the coup," Mr Schatz said.

Earlier, on 8 January, Colorado House speaker, Russ George, during an interview with The Daily Sentinel, said that her role was “unforgivable”.

“I’m inclined to hold everybody who had any role in (Wednesday’s events) accountable and responsible, and that includes Boebert. It’s unforgivable …” the Republican said.

This Boebert CUNT is a terrorist, plain and simple.

She should be treated as such.

The point is that a red section of Colorado voted her in. Her constituency likes what she does. The Republican base becomes ever more radical and detached from reality.

by Anonymousreply 14January 15, 2021 10:33 PM

She represents Western Colorado, nearly half the state, the sparsely populated western and mountain part of the state.

Sounds like if Congress needs a scapegoat or sacrificial lamb to expel, she's it. She's a noob, she's female, and she represents rural and small town people and not any place they consider important.

The communications director for Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado has quit after less than two weeks on the job.

Ben Goldey’s resignation cited last week’s insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, which came amid efforts by Boebert and other Republican lawmakers to block certification of President-elect Joe Biden’s Electoral College victory.

Goldey said in a statement to Axios: “Following the events of January 6th, I’ve decided to part ways with the office. I wish her and the people of Colorado’s Third District the best.”

The NY Post covers her history of previous arrests

[quote] GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert and husband racked up arrests in home district

Just a few from the article will give you a sense of who she is and who she always was-

[quote] In September 2010, Boebert was arrested after a neighbor, Michele Soet, accused Boebert’s two pit bulls of attacking Soet’s dog. Soet’s dog narrowly escaped injury after jumping into a van. The future legislator pled guilty to a single count of “dog at large,” paying a $75 fine.

[quote] Back in June 2015, Boebert was cuffed for disorderly conduct at a Country Music festival near Grand Junction, Colo., after police said she attempted to interfere in the arrest of minors busted for underage drinking and encouraged the accused to run off. Boebert said the revelers had not been read their Miranda Rights and that the arrest was illegal.

[quote] “Lauren continued yelling and causing the underage drinkers to become unruly,” an arresting officer said in a statement at the time. “Lauren said multiple times that she had friends at Fox News and that the illegal arrest would be national news.”

[quote] In February 2004, (her husband) was booked on a domestic violence charge, against Lauren Boebert. He “did unlawfully strike, shove or kick … and subjected her to physical contact,” a spokesman for the Garfield Associate County Court clerk told The Post. They had been dating at the time. Jayson Boebert ultimately served seven days in jail.

Surely there is some security video footage?

by Anonymousreply 125January 18, 2021 4:40 PM

Certainly by this point they’ve seen her on video if she was giving a tour. Are they not revealing it and letting her continue to dig her own grave by denying it? She has to know there are cameras everywhere in the building right? I don’t understand all the speculation. It should be easy to prove or disprove?

by Anonymousreply 126January 18, 2021 4:50 PM

I think this. And the same with announcing that they have concerns about insiders.

If WE know that there are people involved with law enforcement and military training, then certainly the authorities know that. THEREFORE, anyone involved who has that law enforcement or military training has to know that the first to tattle and make a deal gets the most lenient punishment.

I want to believe they are just giving her (and Greene and the Three Stooges) enough rope to hang themselves.

[quote] Are they not revealing it and letting her continue to dig her own grave by denying it? She has to know there are cameras everywhere in the building right? I don’t understand all the speculation. It should be easy to prove or disprove?

I think they just need concrete evidence.

Documents, eyewitness statements, etc.

You can't just charge someone for treason or whatever the charge is, based on video of her giving a Capitol tour. She can say anything, such as "I was giving them a tour."

And without the transcript of the conversation, you don't have a case.

That's why you need documents that she actually invited them there for the purpose of taking over the building, or a voice recording, or something like that.

There has to be solid, concrete evidence, or it just won't stand up in a trial.

by Anonymousreply 128January 18, 2021 8:44 PM

r128, she actually denied that she gave ANY tours during that time frame per r123's post. So if they have video evidence, then at the very least, she is lying. And why should she lie?

by Anonymousreply 129January 18, 2021 9:10 PM

Because it's the MAGA way, r129!

by Anonymousreply 130January 18, 2021 9:15 PM

True, R129.

And although we all know she's lying, and that it's suspicious as hell, it still won't hold up in court.

Then she can say, "Oh, I forgot! Silly me, I did give a tour that day. Yep. That's the ticket."

She will lie and wiggle her way out of it like a snake.

We need one of those people to come forward WITH a voice recording of Boebert specifically telling them where to go and what to do.

If we have that, we can nail her ass to the wall.

Without that, it's all just speculation.

R131, but tours of the Capitol are not permitted right now, due to COVID restrictions. They've been banned for months. She can't just laugh it off as "just a tour." And there will be a record of who she let in, and, presumably, video of where she took them.

[quote] but tours of the Capitol are not permitted right now, due to COVID restrictions.

Yes, tours for the general public and personal tours for constituents. The freshmen are not going to congress or to DC on their first day alone. They usually have family or friends with them if for no other reason than to help them move and be there for the ceremonial swearing in. That’s acceptable.

However, as has been said, showing them around the building, showing them where offices are, etc. is not, but they being new to the building wouldn’t know where they are either.

I want the FBI to go over the CCTV footage of this cunt and whomever was with her. Then compare it to the numerous videos and stills at the insurrection and see who was with her who also stormed the Capitol. I also want them to look into her mother’s cell phone records and GPS because I believe she was “megaphone woman.”

[quote] How does someone like Boebert get elected to Congress? With a lot of help from other far-right Republicans, including Texas Senator Ted Cruz, who gave her at least $70,000, which the Federal Elections Commission says she failed to disclose. In my personal value system, Cruz is worse than Boebert, who dropped out of high school. The Canadian-born senator with multiple Ivy League degrees was an establishment Republican turned Tea Party acolyte, who ran against Trump in 2016, pretended to angrily defend his wife, Heidi, and father, Rafael, against Trump’s slander, but wound up a slavish supporter anyway. Let us also recall: Establishment Cruz went rightward with the essentially racist Tea Party, which was the gateway drug to QAnon, which Lauren Boebert once feverishly supported but disavowed at some point when her handlers deemed that necessary.

[quote] With Boebert, Cruz encouraged the January 6 Capitol violence by continuing to claim nonexistent voter fraud in the November election that saw Trump decisively defeated. Also with Boebert, the Texas charlatan could face some consequences. On Sunday a video released by The New Yorker showed insurgents who invaded the Capitol on the Senate floor rifling through his and other senators’ papers while one reassured others, “Cruz would want us to do this, so I think we’re OK.” They’re not OK, and Cruz might not be either. Nor should Missouri freshman Senator Josh Hawley, another child of elite institutions, unlike Lauren Boebert, who peddled Trump’s voter fraud lies and incited insurrection. I would love to see the three of them thrown out of Congress by their colleagues

Republican Representative Lauren Boebert has introduced her first three bills in Congress. All three take aim at President Biden’s recent executives orders.

The first bill would prevent the U.S. from spending any money to rejoin the Paris Climate agreement unless the Senate ratifies the agreement. The second bill would prevent funds going to the World Health Organization until America holds the international health organization and China “accountable for their role in the global pandemic.”

Boebert’s third bill would overturn Biden’s mask mandate on federal lands and interstate travel on planes, trains or buses. She called it “continued federal overreach.” Boebert defied public health orders by keeping her restaurant open during the early days of the pandemic.

None of these bills are expected to go anywhere in the Democratic-controlled House, where leaders have applauded Biden's efforts to tackle the pandemic and climate change.

Just read her Wikipedia page. Her whole life has been a trash festival. The restaurant she and her husband own is called Shooter's Grill and it's located in Rifle, Colorado. Okay, you're a gun-rights advocate, but these people who turn it into a religion and a fetish, I just don't get.

She dropped out of high school in 2004 because she was knocked up and decided raising her kid was more important than attending classes. She didn't get the GED until last year. I'd imagine the pregnancy is also why she married her abusive boyfriend. Some reproductive rights group should take her story and run with it:

"Yes, you can have and raise that kid you never wanted or planned on at 17, but at what price? Unless you or your baby daddy comes from some money, you may have to forfeit a high school diploma, marry an abuser, work at McDonald's to support your little family, and live in such ignorance that you fall prey to right-wing conspiracy theories and become the kind of person who thinks attacking the US government is brilliant, brave, and patriotic."

Interestingly, Boebert was a registered Democrat from 2005–2007. Her mother was once on welfare. And you know Boebert herself probably received some form of government assistance after dropping out of school to raise that baby.

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) was granted a concealed carry permit in D.C., police Chief Robert Contee said in a press conference Thursday.

“A concealed carry permit was issued in that case,” Contee said when asked if the permit was granted for the first-year congresswoman.

Boebert went viral last month for an ad she released of her walking around Capitol grounds in which she said, “I will carry my firearm in D.C. and in Congress.”

The Colorado Republican is seen in the video walking around the Capitol while appearing to carry a handgun. Members are allowed to carry handguns on Capitol grounds.

Contee said on Thursday that while the video suggested that she was armed, she’s never actually been seen with a gun. He added that after the ad was released, he learned there was a permit application “in the works” at the department.

“As we do with all our permits, if citizens are allowed to carry, then we grant them a permit,” Contee said. “In this case, she was allowed to carry and she was granted a permit. And yes, we did reach out to the office.”

Benjamin Stout, a spokesperson for Boebert, told The Hill that she has received her concealed carry permit, adding “as a Co-Chair of the Second Amendment Caucus, she has proudly helped some of her colleagues receive this permit as well.”

Other lawmakers have gained attention over being armed on Capitol Hill following the Jan. 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol.

Most recently, Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.) notoriously set off metal detectors with a concealed gun last month. Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.) has also admitted to being armed during the riots, though it wasn’t clear if he actually carried a gun to the House floor.

Contee said he wasn’t sure how many other permits were issued to members of Congress out of the “thousands” of permits that have been approved, but said he was certain “there are probably others.”

R221, what a vile twat she is (and it's sad how some gay conservatives are trying to turn gays and trans people against each other when it's clear the right just hates anyone who is different)

Same production company did the video at R226

[quote] U.S. House candidate Kim Klacik walked onto Mike Huckabee’s cable talk show last August as the latest conservative celebrity, riding high on a viral campaign ad that had attracted 10 million views and was shared on social media by President Donald Trump and his eldest son.

[quote] “We raised close to $2 million,” the Republican congressional hopeful said of the three-minute spot, which showed her marching in a red dress and high heels past abandoned buildings in Baltimore, asserting that Democrats do not care about Black lives.

[quote] But later that night, Klacik’s staff told her it would be best to stop disclosing how much money the ad had raised for her campaign against Rep. Kweisi Mfume (D) — because she wouldn’t be keeping much of it, Klacik recounted in an interview.

[quote] The company that produced the video, Arsenal Media Group, would take a cut. And a firm hired to promote the video, Olympic Media, would keep up to 70 percent of the money it generated, some of which was not disclosed in Klacik’s initial campaign finance filings.

...

[quote] By the end of Klacik’s campaign, she would raise a staggering $8.3 million and pay nearly $3.7 million of it to Olympic Media, according to campaign finance filings and her campaign manager.

...

[quote] But although Klacik said she thought Arsenal’s fees were fair, given the company’s creative work, she took issue with Olympic’s digital marketing rates.

[quote] “Whoever’s over there is making a killing,” she said.

YET....she’s still in congress. So is Greene. They are heinous people, but the majority of people in the US are unable to cough these two mucus plugs out of the throat of US electoral politics. I don’t see them leaving Congress any time soon. So much for USA! USA! USA!

The fact is that the opposition candidate to Greene had to drop out of the congressional race due to fears for himself & his family from his opponents supporters. And nothing was done. She remained the only candidate and won her seat, where she still sits today

She has not responded to questions about what the “multiracial” background is that she has listed on official forms. She has touted her business success but has not mentioned her brief, unsuccessful turn at running a golf club restaurant in Rifle. She has not included in her bootstraps biography the fact that she was evicted from her Rifle home in 2010 before a foreclosure. And there has been no mention of her failure to vote in at least four primary elections prior to this year’s primary.

R229 Why does Madison Cawthorn sound like Dean Cain?

by Anonymousreply 245March 13, 2021 8:30 PM

Because they are all scripted, R245. Since that babble of words is devoid of both logic or individual thought, it could be spouted by Cruz or Cawthorn, or Baio or Cain or any other indoctrinated mouthpiece. It reminds me of growing up in the Deep South in the 80's. Even as a teen I used to refer to all of the prayers in school, at the football game or city council meeting as "Garanimals"

Gregg Smith ends his bid to unseat Republican Lauren Boebert

[quote] Democrat Gregg Smith is ending his short-lived campaign to unseat Republican U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert on Monday, saying he’s now confident there are other progressive candidates who can win in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District next year.

[quote] “I’m satisfied that Lauren Boebert will not be a congresswoman in January 2023,” Smith told The Colorado Sun in an interview over the weekend.

[quote] Smith, who lives west of Pueblo, in the town of Westcliffe, announced his candidacy about six weeks ago and faced sharp criticism from some Colorado Democrats. He only permanently moved to the state about a year ago and didn’t register as a Democrat until just before announcing his candidacy. Smith also formerly had close ties with Erik Prince, the controversial former head of the private security firm Blackwater, with whom he ran a global logistics business

[quote] Where does the GQP recruit all these little sociopaths with their webs of lies?

Indirectly, here's one answer to your question.

In this case, a guy decides to run for Senate on the crest of his best-selling book and two of the richest donors in the country get on board, not because of the candidate's credentials or interests but rather simply because that person can win. The flip side of that is, because they are ill equipped and/or stupid, they vote solely the interests of their financial backers.

It is hubris more than the GQP finding them and the cult sugar daddies making it happen.

[quote] COLUMBUS – PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel donated $10 million to a super PAC supporting Hillbilly Elegy author J.D. Vance, a show of support for the possible Ohio Senate contender.

[quote] Thiel, a German-American billionaire and early investor in Facebook, gave $10 million to Protect Ohio Values, a super PAC formed last month to support Vance's possible bid, said Bryan Lanza, a communications adviser to the super PAC.

[quote] The Mercer family also made a "significant contribution," Lanza said. Hedge fund billionaire Robert Mercer and his family were key supporters of former President Donald Trump's presidential bid. Mercer was an important investor in Breitbart News and a force in the campaign for the United Kingdom to leave the European Union.

[quote] Protect Ohio Values' website indicates that the organization was created to back Vance: "We're a network of grassroots conservatives committed to electing a Senator who will stand for and defend Ohio's values in Washington, DC.

R255 And can we please stop talking about celebrities with ZERO political experience running for office--Oprah, Michael Avenatti, Kanye, and Matthew McConaughey among others.

But like your post discusses, there's an entire class of political consultants that make mountains of money off of winning political campaigns. Just because somebody can win an election doesn't mean they'd be any good at governing.

by Anonymousreply 256March 15, 2021 5:43 PM

R246 I see what you're saying, but I meant that it sounds like someone took Dean Cain's voice and dubbed it over Cawthorn's. They sound identical. I would expect someone from North Carolina to have at least a slight accent and not sound like someone that grew up in California.

by Anonymousreply 257March 15, 2021 5:46 PM

Ah, R257. Sorry I didn't understand you before. I just did a quick Google search and so this is my new answer:

Apparently, his father, who now works in wealth management, was a Marine and the parents only moved to North Carolina shortly before their children were born. And then both boys were homeschooled. My guess is Madison sounds like wherever his parents were originally from, topped off with Marine Corps discipline. Just guessing but I wouldn't be the least surprised if his mother was actually either a pageant queen and/or a teacher at some point. It looks to me that he was intentionally groomed to be on display.

I also just discovered that his name is David, not Madison.

THE STRANGE SAGA OF LAUREN BOEBERT’S PRO WRESTLER PATERNITY CASE

[quote] At first, everyone just kind of laughed at the idea that “Sweet” Stan Lane fathered one of the “QAnon congresswomen,” but as the old social media posts further proliferated across the wrestling fan sphere, it developed a weird credibility. After all, Lane isn’t famous enough to be a name at the center of a conspiracy theory. But it also made a certain kind of sense, given his rep. And as luck would have it, Boebert was born December 19, 1986, in Florida, a time when Lane was based out of the Sunshine State and working full-time for Championship Wrestling from Florida, a regional company. Bentz’s hometown, Altamonte Springs, is in the Orlando metropolitan area, and Lane wrestled in Orlando four times in March 1986, the general time period in which Boebert would have been conceived.

...

According to Lane’s answer to the paternity suits, dated April 11, 1990, Lane didn’t dispute the claim by Bentz (then Shawn Roberts) that they had sex on March 9, 1986, a night that he was wrestling in Orlando. However, he “denies being the natural father of the minor child, Lauren Opal Roberts.” Per a sworn “paternity affidavit” that Bentz signed on August 24, 1987, Lane’s response upon learning that she was pregnant was that she should get an abortion, just as that 2008(-ish) YouTube comment would later allege. Though Bentz filed at least four different paternity lawsuits against Lane at home in Seminole County, it took until the spring of 1990 for her to finally be able to serve him in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, where he had lived since the spring of 1987.

[quote] As The Fabulous Ones, he and Keirn were very specifically marketed as heartthrobs, so you can only imagine what his life was like in an entertainment field where performers having sex with fans was explicitly encouraged and considered “good for business.” Still, he was infamous among his fellow wrestlers for just how much sex he was having. “One night I saw Stan opening his door carrying about 10 jumbo-size bottles of baby oil,” wrote Mick Foley in his first memoir, 1999’s Have a Nice Day. “I didn’t have to wrack my brain to figure out what was going on in Stan’s room that night.”
