Stahl had all these questions about the COVID relief bill ready weeks ago and wasn't going to be bothered to work up a second set of questions about some piddly little thing like a coup.

She said that NANCY was an obstructionist, that Nancy prevented any COVID relief from getting to the people because she was so intent on obstructing.

I've been yelled at several times over the years on here for saying that the media is largely responsible for the trouble we've found ourselves in, but it's true.

Trump just incited a coup, possibly even helped plan it himself, and 60 Minutes -- one of our most respected and longest-running news sources -- wants to excoriate a Democrat for delays on a COVID relief bill that weren't her or the party's fault. They launched ad hominem attacks on her about how she never compromised and was old and mean to young people.

THAT is huge reason why we're in the mess we're in. 60 Minutes had a duty to report on the coup. The fucking COUP. The impending impeachment and the 25th Amendment. They didn't want to and basically refused, wanting to report on other things instead.

I could be wrong but I thought the problem that held up the covid relief bill was that Republicans wanted this huge almost a trillion dollar slush fund that Trump could dole out to whoever he wanted and no way was Pelosi going to agree to that. Republicans were holding out for that so that Trump could use that money to help buy the election, they were willing to give the $600 dollar to each American and but no money to help the states with covid as long as Trump got his slush fund.

Had to pause - I’m about 5 minutes in - to say that I think it is an excellent segment so far, clearly spelling out the weight, severity, and danger of the attack.

Also, I’ve never seen Pelosi tear up.

I have criticized Pelosi in the past and let’s just say I haven’t like her much. I watched the interview. I liked her. A lot.

Stahl was critical but it wasn’t anything over the top and perhaps it was necessary to challenge Pelosi, to give her an opportunity to display her strength so as not to be accused of acting like a martyr.

I initially, as I posted upthread, was not going to watch this segment. I am glad that I did. It was excellent.

I really like Pelosi and I think the criticsm she gets from the more left-wing dems is ridiculous. She plays chess while they attempt to play checkers. Nancy wins!

Yes, there were tough questions towards the end, but I found the interview to be fine. Most of it was about the attempted coup.

I liked the interview. The Speaker can handle Lesley Stahl. I loved her response about bringing younger leadership into the caucus and the way she shut her up about AOC and how they are bringing in younger democrats, but the press just isn't paying any attention to them. I respect the fuck out of Nancy Pelosi.

And maybe it's because I am dancing real close to 50, I don't think that "younger" leadership is necessarily better leadership. I think you need youthful ideas and youthful enthusiasm to chart the course, but you can't burn everything down and replace it with a bunch of young people, just because they're young. There is something to be said for life experience informing policy.

I don't think younger leadership is necessarily better, but it's a problem when older lawmakers don't seem to be grooming younger politicians to replace them. It will happen eventually, and a power vacuum is best avoided.

Also, there are some lawmakers who aren't doing a very good job hiding their age-related decline. Feinstein should have retired years ago.

Who was Nancy referring to, though? Who are these young representatives she's been grooming for leadership? Some 65 year old? She didn't give any examples. As for the interview itself, I think y'all need to calm down. It's not Lesley Stahl's job to be a sycophant. That was hardly a 'tough' interview. And Nancy handled it just fine, like she usually does. Yeah, the 'both sides' question lacked nuance, but she gave Nancy an opportunity to rebut it.

As for Stahl being a Republican. I have no insight on that. But if you saw the recent (and very unflattering) Showtime docuseries on The Reagans, in which Lesley was a prominently featured talking head, I hardly think you'd come away thinking she was a Republican. She did not mince words about Reagans failings -- personal and political.

STFU, there is nothing wrong with Stahl's questions. Sure she shouldn't have tried to cover so many subjects in one interview, but it was fine. Nancy handled the questions well and they moved on.

Not every single negative or critical thing you disagree with need to be "cancelled". It's because of this faux outrage, we are where we are, in part.

I've had the same thing with the eye happen to me. It's just a burst blood vessel. When it happened to me it covered both sides with blood. Within a few days it was completely gone.

No one in DoD is allowed to use flash drives anymore; if Congress has a network like DoD, the laptop data cannot be accessed with a CAC card. Not sure how it easy it is to hack into these computers without one, but even in her absence (if she walked away for 10 minutes to go to the restroom), the laptop would be locked & could not be accessed without the CAC & her secure code

So I watched this interview after the criticism on this thread. It was a good interview. They both came off well. Stahl asked some hardball questions. And there's problem? You sound like Trumpers who only want softball questions. In fact with Stahl's line of questioning Pelosi came off very well. You obviously did not see Wolf Blitzer's interview with Nancy where she got angry when he asked the same questions, she got very difficult, felt almost as if it were a betrayal, and accused CNN of being Trump apologists! It was a very WTF moment.

The biggest whoa moment for me is how much she dislikes AOC. It doesn’t bode well for her future, unfortunately, and I happen to like AOC.

Stahl was right to bring up the Democrats obstruction of the Covid relief bill. The Democrats knew the Republicans wouldn’t deal and this was their political capital. The House leadership is ancient but they are too entrenched.

There was one moment where Nancy was making movements with her mouth in an odd way. It's something you would normally edit-out, but they deliberately left it in.

The big mistake you make r81 is equating her (possibly) not liking AOC with Nancy not wanting to work with her. Nancy will work with anyone-- who works with her. She's worked with McConnell, for example. Doesn't have to like him. That's what makes someone a success at the job -- focussing on the goal and not the personalities.

I don't think the Speaker dislikes AOC. I am not an AOC fan, because she comes from a cozy comfy district and doesn't seem to get the challenges that members outside of those cozy districts have to deal with. But... she's gotten better and has shown a willingness to learn.

The one thing I still don't think she gets is that even though the loudest one in the room gets all the attention, being loud may not always get the kinds of results that you want. Pelosi came to Congress as an AOC type wanting to make big changes, but someone pulled her aside and taught her how to get things done, not by shouting - but by working within the available tools.

My guess is that it frustrates Pelosi, that AOC can't get out of her own way. But that's the Bernie in her, and we all know how effective Bernie is as a legislator.

I don't think Nancy dislikes AOC, either. And AOC is getting more shrewd about how to work the system, which is pissing off some far left progressives. And I consider myself a big ol leftie -- a progressive. But, purity tests are ridiculous. Proof that AOC is working the system? She supported Pelosi for Speaker. She joined committees on Biden's transition team. And she used smarts and leverage to convince Nancy to support getting rid of "Paygo" which will make paying for big, meaningful legislation on healthcare and the environment easier. It probably sounds boring and wonky and it's not very sexy, but it's one step closer to enacting progressive legislation (or, at least, legislation that's more progressive than anything coming out of congress) and she did it without a fight, but by working with progressives and moderates and with Nancy.

For daring to work with Nancy and moderates, some far left progressives are already suggesting on Twitter that she's not progressive and she's an "evil" Centrist in progressive clothing.
