Datalounge is the only message board I post on

It's the only one I post on, as well.

For me, it's a manageable board. It's not really very big.

Now try and read an entire Reddit thread or post on Reddit- it's like yelling into the darkness. Important threads have 3-4,000 replies.

And other boards make you use your profile name for posting. I like the relative anonymity here - although you can still be exposed with the Ignore function.

The only thing is - I wish there was a downvote for posts. People are using WW as a like button, and it wasn't intended for that. But we need to show disfavor with other posts - there's no way to do that except FF, which is limited or to Ignore the person.

Down or dislike button is sorely needed on this board.

R3 - Amen to that. If they just provided a filter to remove all the video game posts, dankmemes (never funny), and people's incessant cat and dog photos/videos, it would be a much better experience.

I've been taking a break from Reddit the past few months, so most days I exclusively post on DataLounge.

A query on some odd subject sometimes lands me in Reddit. It can be good for some very specific thing, but is a big bewildering to navigate ina general way.

Data Lounge is compact enough that I can scroll through recent posts or updates in a reasonable time and stumble upon some interesting things, laugh or shake my head at some old DL favorite themes, and appreciate the knowledge and considered responses of some posters among the general randomness.

It's the only place I post.

DL is really gay internet heaven. It has a wide variety of topics to discuss - most gay in tone, but not always - from often knowledgable posters. It can be fun, serious, witty, irritating, informative, frustrating. The anonymous nature gives you freedom, but, as other have said, good DL sleuths can and do expose trolls that over do it.

I love it. And, yes, it's the only board I post on.

R5, Reddit is where you can see civilization reverting from written language back to crude cave petroglyphs.

You read those stories about message boards radicalizing their posters to do crazy shit. I just can't imagine DL radicalizing a bunch of us to do shit...

In the old days when a post received sufficient W&W votes, the post was placed on the left hand column of the main page. It was sort of a "hall of fame" for posts.

That's the only way other than simply replying to their posts to let them know of your appreciation. It's effectively a "like button" now.

I used to post on r/gendercritical but it got banned. DL is the only site I regularly post on now. I love it here, it's hilarious.

DL is the only place I post, and I find it extremely uncomplicated to navigate, and also extremely satisfying as a community (love you guys). When I go to other message boards I’m struck by how stupid and boring most people are. The people here for the most part are smart and funny.

The nice part is that topics and threads from larger boards (e.g. Reddit) are copied here so we can discuss on a smaller scale and with our own perspective.

I'll say it again - Reddit is just monstrously huge. I don't see how you can really discuss one-on-one when there are 4,000 replies.

And DL has a similar problem as Reddit in that there are some people here obsessed with a handful of topics - Instahoes, Meghan Markle, porn - but it's easier to avoid than the onslaught of gaming, star wars, anime, cat pics and other shit that overloads Reddit.

Reddit does have good porn though.

DL is my main message board.

I do a few local Reddits plus of course the plentiful pages of Reddit cock. And I follow NextDoor, partly for good info and partly for the LOLZ of reading fifty and sixtysomething racist fraus shriek constantly.

It's pretty obvious that many DLers don't use any other forum or social media, they often understand even the basics of the internet, they're frequently fooled by obvious trolls and can't even use Google without hurting themselves.

It's a mistake for people to get their information from DL. Nearly every day I see what should be an informative thread filled with lies, nonsense, misleading information, trolling, and mistakes that no one notices, and outright hostility if anyone corrects the mistake or lie.

It's OK to get the basic outline of a news story here, but then you have to follow up on your own.

What I'm noticing in the past few days is OPs (wanting to discuss a news story) with no links. Tired of that.

The opposite would be quoting an entire news story in the OP. Posters don't know how to synopsize.

I so miss the WWs on the main page. I landed there a few times.

DL and another private board I've been on for 20 years. It's pretty much a friends group of North Americans who found each other through a love of home décor.

It's grown boring, though. DL is where it's all happening. So many interesting threads. I've gone down so many internet rabbit holes from things I've learned here.

Only post on two boards now, besides DL (not gonna doxx myself saying what they are). As a much-younger person I was a role-play message boarder, but that got old and lame by the time I graduated. Most of my online time not spent on DL or working/emailing is spent listening to music, watching movies, and reading articles (and occasionally fanfiction, but shhhh....)

Few years back I was a lurker on the now-late and still-notorious r/o&a. It's the only place on the Internet that could rival the DL for bleak savage and screamingly sharp wit, but as with DL it was that "you had to be there when it happened" Yuma. I can't even really explain the glorious and dark weirdness that sub produced; looking I hardly even believe any of it myself sometimes. We caused a man to lose his cover-band gigs, another to lose what was left of his wetbrain, and one man to commit a felony accidentally killing his kid in the process--I wish I was kidding. The posters on that sub taught me the gritty truth about humour and about life--the drunk scary Uncle to DL's acerbic tipsy grandpa. Because of its rare audacity and raw integrity, it was also the only sub on that garbahj site worth frequenting;; I was shamefacedly on SquaredCircle for a little bit, too, but the smarks gave me second-hand embarrassment.

I post on some bodybuilding forums though I mostly lurk. I learned so much about cutting and dietary macros.
