Is humankind 50% garbage?

I have found Youtube to be a very enlightening site/tool in terms of exposing the human "condition"..

I tend to follow more new age/spiritual teachers and animal related channels/some entertainment type channels-

One of these personalities that I started following is a supposed psychic. They have been on talk shows, etc- Not too well known but has an interesting history- Anyway, they seemed sane and interesting with some cool stuff. I watched their live videos for the last few weeks and never really looked at the comments feed. It was a good diversion. But I have noticed this person slowly revealing themselves as a real possible Trumptard and the comments were clearly the same. They also apparently think Covid is a scam and that masks are not important.

So after the events of this week I went on their channel..Last night there were 1200 "viewers" on their live Youtube feed/episode and as I watched the comments on the scroll- the "followers" were basically seriously pro Trump. They were pulling the "It was ANTIFA" shit, "Trump WON THE ELECTION" shit... Totally unrelated to what the psychic was talking about. The comments were fucking horrifying. Needless to say I unfollowed this person on every platform.

I know this sounds stupid- but the more things I read and see- I am really starting to think that half of humanity is far worse than I ever imagined.

It's not just being a republican. I can deal with that. But I think that a good portion of Americans many be sociopathic, insane, and ignorant to the point of being dangerous.

And you read this thread about 1/17, and how these militia groups are just getting started.. I feel like I have been living in a dreamworld since birth that never existed. Makes me grateful for the really good people I have known in life- some of which I never appreciated the way that I should have.

This is a dumb blog like post- But the world is fucked.

50% ?

I see you're an optimist.

by Anonymousreply 1January 9, 2021 2:12 PM

I grew up in an extended family of good people. almost 60 years later I can't think of anyone in the 3 generations across many branches, who was a piece of garbage.

But in almost 60 years, the stories I have heard and seen from people I know. And in the past 20 years, the garbage we see online.

It was once very shocking to me and grim: Made me sad and afraid. I think I've been blessed to spent most of my working life avoiding garbage people but the ones I met were incredibly bad destructive people who destroy things and people around them.

I don't think it's 50% but I think if you are born in a family or community with a. lot of garbage people, then you risk going through life with a high percentage of garbage people in your real life. Its grim and horrifying.

I know refugees in my country, for example. They really suffered from garbage people and had to and were lucky to escape.

And in the past 20 years, the garbage we see online.....

I was talking about this with a friend the other night, and we arrived at the following conclusions: (1) Of course, there has always been a certain percentage of garbage people, but until the rise of the internet, they had very limited means of expressing their evil and idiocy to the world. Now, any asshat can go on Facebook or Twitter or YouTube, say just about anything, and immediately broadcast it to the entire world -- plus it's far easier now for these deplorables to connect with each other. (2) I also believe there has been an increase in garbage people due to the dumbing-down of the general population due to the decline in education, at least in the U.S. (I can't speak to other countries.)

So I really think the percentage of garbage people in the world vs. good people is higher than it used to be, PLUS we're now much more aware of garbage people due to social media and the internet. The net result is that the OBVIOUS percentage of deplorables is far, far greater than it was as recently as 25 or 30 years ago.

Thoughts?

by Anonymousreply 3January 9, 2021 2:51 PM

Thanks R2 and R3- Awesome thoughts and points. R3- I think you have nailed it- Due to technology and media we are exposed and peek behind the curtain

I kind of use Youtube as a "sampling"- and its a horrifying one.

A few colleagues - when I merely "touched" upon the topic of current events. "Wow, can you believe yesterday"?

"I don't talk about politics."

Okay....

I’m 33 from a huge family. I didn’t know many decent people when I was growing up. I only knew liars, thieves and whores. I’m always jealous of people whose upbringings allow them to be naive and trusting.

by Anonymousreply 5January 9, 2021 3:30 PM

You are not supposed to be close friends with everybody, just like you are not supposed to buy 100% of what's available in a supermarket or like 100% of TV programming.

The focus on others, judging them, or perceiving them as a threat is probably the most counterproductive thing in human society.

Find and cherish the people who you feel a positive connection with and leave the rest be.

by Anonymousreply 6January 9, 2021 3:32 PM

OP if you are interested someone posted this in the Predictions for 2021:

"I’ve heard some spiritualists refer to earth as the insane asylum of the universe because it’s so out of balance and people come here to accelerate their spiritual progression (but many get lost once they arrive and forget their purpose)."

by Anonymousreply 7January 9, 2021 3:35 PM

Lol R1. Truth.

by Anonymousreply 8January 9, 2021 3:36 PM

Nah, there are people that are dangers to society and they need to be dealt with. That was made abundantly clear on 1/6, R6.

by Anonymousreply 9January 9, 2021 3:38 PM

Yes- I do believe that what you focus on is what you get. Focus on the good. It is not only good spiritual sense but it is pure quantum physics. However, the more I read about this- and it WAS 100% an inside job-which seems to be the tornado underneath this-(and I don't think any of us remotely see how labyrinthian this coup attempt was, yet)-- the more disheartened I get. We are going to learn how many fellow Americans betrayed us all.

This kind of thing makes you reexamine everything, and I am grateful for that. It makes me want to contribute in some positive way and not be a clockwatcher ever again.

by Anonymousreply 10January 9, 2021 3:49 PM

A) Why don’t you name this supposed psychic?

B) Why are you using plural pronouns to refer to a specific person?

C) Please don’t tell me you believe in psychics.

D) you should have seen that coming.

by Anonymousreply 11January 9, 2021 3:59 PM

In my experience, it's lower - around 10%.

by Anonymousreply 12January 9, 2021 4:07 PM

I believe we have exact numbers: 74,111,419 or 46.96%.

So not quite 50%, but pretty damn close.

by Anonymousreply 13January 9, 2021 4:07 PM

Closer to 90%

by Anonymousreply 14January 9, 2021 4:24 PM

Find someone to love who you trust and hang on tightly - because, yes, OP, many people are garbage, and the rest is manufactured to make the remaining decent folks look like garbage.

No one is perfect, but a heart of gold is rare AF.

R11- You are right- Sorry

It is Sloan Bella on Youtube.

I have enjoyed her True Crime "Channelings" regarding unsolved crimes-

I think you can even go on and watch the live feed from last night and actually see the comments- I am not sure.

by Anonymousreply 16January 9, 2021 4:57 PM

It feels like some kind of evil has invaded us. I can not explain it. There is no kindness or happiness. Just anger and coldness, and misery.

by Anonymousreply 17January 9, 2021 5:33 PM

Evilness and helplessness and fear. Greed. Death. Every town is filthy and neglected. Dark stuff.

by Anonymousreply 18January 9, 2021 5:35 PM

I've always quite liked Russell Brand--I enjoy his kind of humour. He got very esoteric, which isn't my thing, but I was happy for him to have found something. I didn't mind his veer into politics, though I often didn't agree with him. But in the last few weeks YouTube's been suggesting videos where he seems to be justifying Trump or espousing Covid conspiracies. I don't watch, but the comments are full of the kind of crazies OP mentions. Today there was something about "who's really at fault for what happened at the Capitol." I unsubscribed.

As a left-winger, I make an effort to seek out right-wing/conservative voices, just so I'm not stuck in a bubble, but I can't bear soft-headed conspiracy mongering.

by Anonymousreply 19January 9, 2021 5:43 PM

This Thread is tied to the unending battle between the concepts of good and evil and this evolutionary experiment we're all a piece of... on a planet called Earth.

by Anonymousreply 20January 9, 2021 6:11 PM

I to try to seek out conservative voices so I can understand why they have their views of life. I mean some of them go to the best schools and have excellent educations right? But all I find are people like Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley.

I will go to my grave not understanding a damn thing. It wasn't supposed to be this way. Or at least from what I understood as a boy.

by Anonymousreply 21January 9, 2021 6:25 PM

Ah, the good vs. evil dialectic. I still struggle with this philosophically, because I was somewhat sheltered and surrounded myself with good people as much as possible and it has been jolting to see the world more clearly in the past 4-5 years.

Throughout our history there have always been good people, middle ground people, and bad people, on a spectrum. I used to think there were more good people because I surrounded myself with them, but when I got out of grad school and into the “real” world in jobs and met more people (coinciding with Trump’s rise to presidential power), I really started to question this. What I started to see was a lot more complicit and opportunistic people who will do bad things if they think they can get away with it or just be bystanders or outright deniers of injustice or bad things—-in sum, extremely selfish and lacking much empathy.

I now believe there are something like 20% good people, 60% gray area people, and 20% bad people. So given the “right” circumstances, the majority will do the wrong thing, but given another set of circumstances, the majority may make a “good” decision as a whole. There are a lot invetweeners who will be swayed by who they associate with.

That’s my take—I don’t think this ever changes; I believe that this balance or imbalance as it may is sort of how our world is set up and has existed throughout history.

Is someone familiar with revelation' s ? The Bible? I am not because religion was forced on me here in the South and I loath the judgemental hypocrites. People are saying that everything predicted is coming true. Just curious and as much as I am hating myself for feeling a bit afraid, lol.

by Anonymousreply 23January 9, 2021 8:06 PM

I've been wondering this, too, for the past 4 years and I'm wondering if it's just that social media is giving them a platform they never had before. Like most things, social media can be used for both good and evil. I'm sure these people always existed, but we just didn't have to hear every negative thought on their mind every day.

by Anonymousreply 24January 9, 2021 8:22 PM

R23- You bittersouthernbitch.

I love the Bible. It is all 100% metaphorical. I believe the Dr Joseph Murphy method where it is all about the subconscious mind..

When you look at it as symbolic, a lot of it is very useful and comforting.

And yeah, every word can be twisted for the fundamentalists and baptists to say- EVERYTHING IS COMING TRUE. Especially now, as the world appears to be a war zone, within and without.

The Bible has some good shit. And some bad stuff. But its not the worst piece of literature.

by Anonymousreply 25January 9, 2021 9:25 PM

a) way higher than 50%

b) anyone who thinks everyone in their family tree is a great person has an extremely high tolerance for bullshit

by Anonymousreply 26January 9, 2021 9:42 PM

R25 Not all of the Bible is metaphorical or symbolic. Much of the Old Testament is, such as Adam and Eve, the talking snake, and the Garden Of Eden. In the New Testament the book of Revelation is the most symbolic book in the entire Bible - please don't take it literally. But people like Jesus Christ, his disciples, Moses, King David and King Solomon are real although a few things many have been lost in the translations.

by Anonymousreply 27January 9, 2021 9:56 PM

It is 80 percent and 90 percent are unattractive. Aliens must have been completely unimpressed.
