by Anonymous | reply 600 | January 11, 2021 2:03 AM |
Again?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | January 8, 2021 10:28 PM |
Permanently this time.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 8, 2021 10:29 PM |
YES!!!!! Pelosi just issued a press release, too. 25th and/or impeachment coming.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 8, 2021 10:29 PM |
Laughing my ass off right now
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 8, 2021 10:29 PM |
JFC finally.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 8, 2021 10:29 PM |
OMG -- it's like cutting off his air supply!
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 8, 2021 10:30 PM |
ABOUT FUCKING TIME!!!!’
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 8, 2021 10:30 PM |
That's covfefing unbelievable!
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 8, 2021 10:31 PM |
LOL I think FB, Insta, Youtube, and Snap also suspended him.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 8, 2021 10:31 PM |
So does that mean he (and any number of impostors) can create new accounts that are not verified but purport to be him?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 8, 2021 10:31 PM |
This is basically: "Off with his head!"
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 8, 2021 10:31 PM |
LOL I think FB, Insta, Youtube, and Snap also suspended him.
He's still OK with us!
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 8, 2021 10:31 PM |
Beautiful.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 8, 2021 10:32 PM |
I would hate to be within 50 miles of him right now
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 8, 2021 10:32 PM |
Was that tweet about the MAGATs never being ignored or disrespected again the last one? Or did he post something else after that?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 8, 2021 10:32 PM |
Yayyyyyyy!!!
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 8, 2021 10:32 PM |
Were the tweets in question new since yesterday, or were they reviewing old tweets?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 8, 2021 10:32 PM |
Bye bitch!
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 8, 2021 10:32 PM |
Anybody know what his most recent Tweets were? Were they more lies about the election, or further incitement to violence?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 8, 2021 10:33 PM |
Apparently Friendster and Myspace have banned him already, R15.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 8, 2021 10:33 PM |
HAHA FUCK FACE 🤡🤡🤡
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 8, 2021 10:33 PM |
There were two new ones today R20.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 8, 2021 10:33 PM |
Why now? I mean did he tweet something within the last hour?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 8, 2021 10:33 PM |
There’s still the official POTUS account
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 8, 2021 10:34 PM |
“Donald Trump is on MySpace”
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 8, 2021 10:34 PM |
Is he going to hop on tumblr with all the emo, wrist-cutting pansexual non binary teens????
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 8, 2021 10:35 PM |
He will die soon.
He cannot live without it.
His audience of 88.8 million people are gone forever.
The thoughts he has while taking shits will no longer be broadcast and repeated by every news outlet on Earth.
He has no reason to go on. He will die soon of depleted energy. Mark my words.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 8, 2021 10:35 PM |
Kellyanne is gonna be getting an earful.
*snigger*
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 8, 2021 10:35 PM |
Trump is on Parler.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 8, 2021 10:35 PM |
It’s all explained in R24
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 8, 2021 10:36 PM |
I think he and his people are on Parler.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 8, 2021 10:36 PM |
How long before @therealJohnBarron account is up and telling us how many many many people are angry at Twitter for banning the greatest president ever?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 8, 2021 10:36 PM |
I’m loving this but now I kinda feel scared, he can still wreak havoc for the next few days.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | January 8, 2021 10:37 PM |
Before I found out his account had been suspended I hat tweeted there needs to be a media blackout on Trump and for the media to stop playing his damn videos.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 8, 2021 10:37 PM |
Ann Coulter always mocks Trump for not doing anything about Big Tech, especially after it’s too late. The power of Twitter, Facebook and Google should have been addressed earlier in his administration. Now he’s fucked.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 8, 2021 10:37 PM |
Free speech!! First Amendment!! Censorship!!
by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 8, 2021 10:37 PM |
*had
by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 8, 2021 10:37 PM |
I get the sense that they don't care for Parler since it's just an echo chamber and they aren't owning anyone.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 8, 2021 10:38 PM |
Last tweet I saw (about an hour ago) was from earlier today -- the one announcing he is skipping the inauguration.
I think he was banned due to tweets on Wednesday.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 8, 2021 10:38 PM |
This will literally kill a malignant narcissist like him.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | January 8, 2021 10:39 PM |
Sounds like Dorsey got an employee revolt.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | January 8, 2021 10:40 PM |
If a fat, narcissistic retard makes loud stupid noises and there is no twitter, Facebook, or Youtube to record it, did it even make a sound?
by Anonymous | reply 46 | January 8, 2021 10:40 PM |
Note to self: Buy Twitter sock at the opening bell tomorrow ...
by Anonymous | reply 47 | January 8, 2021 10:40 PM |
Sounds like Dorsey got an employee revolt.
Dorsey's pretty revolting on his own.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | January 8, 2021 10:41 PM |
SAD LAST DAYS
by Anonymous | reply 49 | January 8, 2021 10:41 PM |
Free Speach! This is Amurika!
by Anonymous | reply 50 | January 8, 2021 10:41 PM |
by Anonymous | reply 51 | January 8, 2021 10:42 PM |
For Trump, Parler is like shopping at the dollar store instead of Cartier. It’s just an enormous hit.
HAHAHAHAHA!
To be honest I’m shocked. Trump’s account alone accounts fir an estimated 20% of twitters ad revenue.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | January 8, 2021 10:42 PM |
If anyone walking in the area 1600 penn ave tonight spots a man on the roof, please fulfill your patriotic duty to this country and scream: jump, you fat fuck!!!
by Anonymous | reply 53 | January 8, 2021 10:43 PM |
Thank you R51! I was just going to post that. This is my fav thread of the week.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | January 8, 2021 10:43 PM |
How long before he's on suicide watch? The takedown is moving very fast.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | January 8, 2021 10:43 PM |
Fox News not even mentioning it.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | January 8, 2021 10:43 PM |
Does he have “an” Onlyfans?
by Anonymous | reply 57 | January 8, 2021 10:43 PM |
I can’t wait to go to Twitter to see what Trump has to say about THIS! Tee hee!
by Anonymous | reply 58 | January 8, 2021 10:44 PM |
You know it’s bad when something like this feels like a fucking New Year’s Eve celebration.
🎉🥳🎊🎉🥳🎊🎉🥳🎊🎉🥳🎊🎉🥳🎊
by Anonymous | reply 59 | January 8, 2021 10:44 PM |
Was that tweet about the MAGATs never being ignored or disrespected again the last one? Or did he post something else after that?
I think so. That may have been the final straw, actually.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | January 8, 2021 10:45 PM |
All his tweets deleted - finally justice
by Anonymous | reply 61 | January 8, 2021 10:45 PM |
I wonder if he will just start having Jr or Ivakunt post his tweets for him? But then again, Twitter will just exterminate them also.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | January 8, 2021 10:47 PM |
Is that him on the WH roof?
by Anonymous | reply 64 | January 8, 2021 10:47 PM |
I sometimes can't quite believe the Grand Ole Party has brought us to the point news channels and very serious people have to talk about the President of the Goddamn United Fucking States of America being thrown off a platform called Twitter like he's some kind of 14 year old girl who was harassing her rival cheerleader.
Thank you, Republicans. Thank you for bringing us to this moment.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | January 8, 2021 10:47 PM |
I’m about to go grocery shopping at Rainbow, a few blocks from Twitter. Should I bring my own duck-and-cover desk just in case?
by Anonymous | reply 66 | January 8, 2021 10:47 PM |
@herrtrumpfsavior
by Anonymous | reply 67 | January 8, 2021 10:48 PM |
Note to self: Buy Twitter sock at the opening bell tomorrow ...
Note to me too, R47!
by Anonymous | reply 68 | January 8, 2021 10:48 PM |
JFK Jr. will now reveal himself on Twitter to avenge Trump's banning. This was all part of the plan.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | January 8, 2021 10:48 PM |
The rats have been fleeing the sinking ship. Now the roaches are being exterminated. IvanKunt, do you have anything to say? Jr?
by Anonymous | reply 70 | January 8, 2021 10:48 PM |
If you don’t think they’re coming for you next, you’re wrong.
Threat - get rid of him too
by Anonymous | reply 71 | January 8, 2021 10:49 PM |
This may be the thing that finally breaks Trump and makes him resign.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | January 8, 2021 10:49 PM |
To be honest I’m shocked. Trump’s account alone accounts fir an estimated 20% of twitters ad revenue.
They were already well established before him and will be much better after him.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | January 8, 2021 10:50 PM |
Was that tweet about the MAGATs never being ignored or disrespected again the last one?
There was one more- saying he would not be attending Biden’s inauguration (for all the people who had been asking)
by Anonymous | reply 74 | January 8, 2021 10:50 PM |
If you don’t think they’re coming for you next, you’re wrong.
They're not coming for me because I don't use it.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | January 8, 2021 10:51 PM |
They stole Trump's megaphone from him! However is he going to live now?
by Anonymous | reply 77 | January 8, 2021 10:51 PM |
Who's running the aneurism betting pool?
by Anonymous | reply 78 | January 8, 2021 10:51 PM |
R62 Watching then cry and get banned for inappropriate posts is going to be so delicious.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | January 8, 2021 10:52 PM |
Note to self: Buy Twitter sock at the opening bell tomorrow ...
I think they only sell them in pairs.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | January 8, 2021 10:52 PM |
R76 omg. That IS NOT an official tweet from Biden!
😂🤣😂🤣😂
by Anonymous | reply 81 | January 8, 2021 10:52 PM |
How long before he slinks off to Mar-a-Lago with his tail between his legs?
by Anonymous | reply 82 | January 8, 2021 10:53 PM |
R81, it's not of course. But damn I wish.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | January 8, 2021 10:55 PM |
It sounds like the tweet what done im in was the seemingly neutral one about not being at the Inauguration. Twitter took that as a message to his supporters to attack.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | January 8, 2021 10:55 PM |
Wonderful though this news is, it's infuriating that it took so many years for his inflammatory account to be removed when women have been banned from Twitter for referring to men as "he".
by Anonymous | reply 85 | January 8, 2021 10:55 PM |
If they’ve deleted all the tweets I hope the Library of Congress has already archived all of them. They’re part of the Nation’s history and are sacred documents which must be protected and cherished for generations.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | January 8, 2021 10:55 PM |
If they’ve deleted all the tweets I hope the Library of Congress has already archived all of them. They’re part of the Nation’s history and are sacred documents which must be protected and cherished for generations.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | January 8, 2021 10:55 PM |
How long before he slinks off to Mar-a-Lago with his tail between his legs?
They need to permanently cut off the wi-fi there.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | January 8, 2021 10:56 PM |
If they’ve deleted all the tweets I hope the Library of Congress has already archived all of them. They’re part of the Nation’s history and are sacred documents which must be protected and cherished for generations.
They are part of legal investigations, too.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | January 8, 2021 10:56 PM |
Michelle Goldberg from the NYT on MSNBC "I'm going to have to think through the first amendment ramifications of this..."
WTF? Twitter is a private company. There are no first amendment ramifications.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | January 8, 2021 10:57 PM |
If they’ve deleted all the tweets I hope the Library of Congress has already archived all of them. They’re part of the Nation’s history and are sacred documents which must be protected and cherished for generations.
The account suspended was his personal account. There's a separate account for Trump as POTUS. That one automatically gets disabled for posting after he is no longer POTUS.
But in either case, Twitter still has all the data.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | January 8, 2021 10:59 PM |
Posted this on one of the many other threads about this... but he still has access to @POTUS. Or someone in that dog-and-pony-show office does. Hopefully he does not have the password.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | January 8, 2021 10:59 PM |
NYT is garbage staffed with GOP bootlickers.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | January 8, 2021 10:59 PM |
FOX NEWS is already SCREAMING about FREE SPEECH!
by Anonymous | reply 95 | January 8, 2021 10:59 PM |
As Twitter would put it, I was today years old when I finally understood what it means to bump old threads as a way of getting new ones hidden at the bottom.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | January 8, 2021 10:59 PM |
R90 Jesus fucking Christ- she’s a journalist, and she doesn’t know that? Pathetic
by Anonymous | reply 97 | January 8, 2021 11:00 PM |
r91 They probably gave the honor to the Employee-of-the-Month or some other deserving person as a special reward.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | January 8, 2021 11:00 PM |
That’s good. Corral him and his followers on Parler. Easier following them at one place. And I wouldn’t be surprised if Parler gets shut down altogether.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | January 8, 2021 11:01 PM |
He's got plenty of medium to speak. He can always go on FOX NEWS. They will be happy to broadcast him 24/7.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | January 8, 2021 11:01 PM |
Reporting live and thinking on the spot are not the strong suits of anyone at the NYT. They are only able to write lengthy op-eds about deplorables in red states.
by Anonymous | reply 101 | January 8, 2021 11:02 PM |
“If Trump can’t be trusted to tweet, can he be trusted with the nuclear codes? Just asking for 7 billion friends.”
This.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | January 8, 2021 11:02 PM |
Parler won't get shut down, but Apple is considering removing it from the app store. Nobody wants anything to do with this toxic piece of shit known as Donald Trump anymore.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | January 8, 2021 11:04 PM |
He can always go on FOX NEWS.
He hates FOX. He’s been bitching about FOX for weeks (on Twitter, lol.)
by Anonymous | reply 105 | January 8, 2021 11:05 PM |
I'm glad Twitter banned Trump, but I think Apple threatening to ban Parler because it disapproves of their moderation policy treads a dangerous line.
If GOOGLE 'bans' an app from Google Play store, it sucks for the app, but it's not the end of the world... as long as they aren't banished from the entire Play Services ecosystem (which would affect everything from SSO to location services).
If APPLE bans an app, it's literally 'game over' as far as anyone with a non-jailbroken IOS device is concerned. Getting banned by Apple is only marginally better than having your domain name siezed, or getting blocked by a nation-state (the way India has done to a few sites)(China is another story entirely, taking it up a thousand notches).
A service like Twitter ought to have wide latitude to censor its users, as long as those disagreeing with a policy can go elsewhere. When an entire hardware platform starts banning, the whole "it's a free market... find another service or start your own" argument goes down the toilet. Not even fucking MICROSOFT could elbow its way into today's smartphone ecosystem, and Microsoft literally INVENTED most of its "foundation" technologies (contrary to Apple propaganda, iPhone wasn't the first 'smart phone'... Windows Mobile was ugly as sin & sucked as a literal PHONE, but it gave us shit circa 2005 that iPhones didn't support for YEARS after 2010). If not even MICROSOFT can elbow its way in to become viable platform #3, there's ZERO hope anyone ELSE can.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | January 8, 2021 11:05 PM |
I never thought I'd see someone go completely mad right before my eyes. Now I've seen it.
by Anonymous | reply 107 | January 8, 2021 11:06 PM |
treads a dangerous line.
You’ve lost me. What’s the “dangerous line”?
by Anonymous | reply 108 | January 8, 2021 11:08 PM |
5 years too late
by Anonymous | reply 110 | January 8, 2021 11:09 PM |
Lets not forget Trump tried to ban Tik Tok. There is a lot of irony in Trump being banned and Tik Tok stronger than ever.
by Anonymous | reply 111 | January 8, 2021 11:11 PM |
Remember it sounds like a broken record. Hillary was eight about him all along.. It was she that told him via tweet, "delete tour account" 4 years ago.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | January 8, 2021 11:12 PM |
So has the orange turd opened a parler account?
by Anonymous | reply 113 | January 8, 2021 11:12 PM |
This clown tweeted or re-tweeted over 50,000 times during his 4 years in the WH. SMH.
by Anonymous | reply 114 | January 8, 2021 11:14 PM |
For those asking upthread, his tweets have been archived here.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | January 8, 2021 11:14 PM |
He did the other day R113.
by Anonymous | reply 116 | January 8, 2021 11:14 PM |
This feels so fucking good.
by Anonymous | reply 118 | January 8, 2021 11:15 PM |
r108, read the whole post.
The barriers to entry for an entire hardware platform (IOS, Android) is orders and orders of magnitude higher than the barriers to entry for creating a niche alternative to a service like Twitter. Apple & Google exercise the kind of duopoly power that not even 1970s IBM or AT&T would have dared to openly exercise.
by Anonymous | reply 119 | January 8, 2021 11:15 PM |
[bold]THANK.
GOD.[/bold]
WHY the fuck did it take them so long?
[bold]FIRE JACK DORSEY.[/bold] He has blood on his hands.
by Anonymous | reply 120 | January 8, 2021 11:15 PM |
This is a game-changer. Twitter is this fuckers oxygen tank. This could be the most serious threat to him as he tries to recoup his insane followers.
by Anonymous | reply 121 | January 8, 2021 11:16 PM |
Will someone please shit in my ear? My head is empty and I'd like to fill it.
by Anonymous | reply 122 | January 8, 2021 11:17 PM |
R119 So basically you’re saying that Apple banning Parler is bad because it means they have too much power, is that it?
by Anonymous | reply 123 | January 8, 2021 11:17 PM |
Biden wins. Senate turns blue. Twitter bans Trump.
It's like Christmas keeps happening over and over and over.
by Anonymous | reply 124 | January 8, 2021 11:19 PM |
Private companies should not be policing speech. We need a state run online public commons, beholden to the 1A, not private policy. It’s idiotic and dangerous to leave this in the hands of private financial interests.
by Anonymous | reply 128 | January 8, 2021 11:20 PM |
r123, in a word... yes.
The same power to ban an app like Parler for WrongThink™ could be used to ban apps like Scruff, Growlr, and Grindr. And in fact, HAS been used against all 3 apps multiple times in the past.
by Anonymous | reply 129 | January 8, 2021 11:21 PM |
R128, we shouldn't be using the government to police social media.
If you don't like Twitter, don't post there. Having a Twitter account is a privilege, not a right
by Anonymous | reply 130 | January 8, 2021 11:23 PM |
So is he going to get an account on TikTok?
by Anonymous | reply 131 | January 8, 2021 11:23 PM |
So is he going to try to talk through Don Jr or one of his other retard progeny?
by Anonymous | reply 132 | January 8, 2021 11:24 PM |
R128 = Russian troll
by Anonymous | reply 133 | January 8, 2021 11:24 PM |
#RIPBozo is trending
by Anonymous | reply 134 | January 8, 2021 11:25 PM |
R129, agreed. This enthusiasm we have been seeing for the silencing of anyone the mob that currently holds power disagrees with is a terrible trend. People seem to be entirely ignorant of why free speech, especially the speech we disagree with the most, needs to be protected. This bodes very badly for the future. Twitter and Facebook should not be in the position of having to silence a terrorist. Law enforcement should have arrested him years ago. We need a public commons that is not tied up with corporate or ideological interests.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | January 8, 2021 11:25 PM |
Ladies and Gentlemen, sadly this is far from being over. Just read.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | January 8, 2021 11:25 PM |
Fuck you, r133.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | January 8, 2021 11:26 PM |
R129 I thought so after reading the first post but was hoping that wasn’t what you meant.
Scruff, Gowlr, and Grindr...
Okay, let me just breathe.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | January 8, 2021 11:26 PM |
They're planning to storm the inauguration.
by Anonymous | reply 139 | January 8, 2021 11:27 PM |
Well, let the National Guard gum 'em all down then.
by Anonymous | reply 140 | January 8, 2021 11:28 PM |
Er, *gun them all down. GUN.
by Anonymous | reply 141 | January 8, 2021 11:29 PM |
R139 I wouldn’t be surprised.
by Anonymous | reply 143 | January 8, 2021 11:29 PM |
Theoretically, can't he just tweet from his official presidential acct?
by Anonymous | reply 144 | January 8, 2021 11:30 PM |
Why do I feel like Steve Bannon is behind a lot of those posts on parler?
by Anonymous | reply 145 | January 8, 2021 11:30 PM |
R132, maybe Melania's twitter!
by Anonymous | reply 146 | January 8, 2021 11:31 PM |
Apple is considering taking down the Parker app.
by Anonymous | reply 147 | January 8, 2021 11:32 PM |
r145, he is behind the whold app
why is Apple and Tim Cook willingly complicit in this coup... that is the question
by Anonymous | reply 148 | January 8, 2021 11:32 PM |
The year 2021 is getting better and better each passing day. Hope springs eternal!
by Anonymous | reply 149 | January 8, 2021 11:32 PM |
Free speech is a myth and has been used as an excuse to spread hate and fear for way too long.
Guys like Trump are to blame for making censorship a necessary step.
And no, the "would you like it if your Liberal opinions get censored" argument doesn't fly, because the Liberal agenda doesn't incite hate and violence towards your fellow men.
by Anonymous | reply 151 | January 8, 2021 11:32 PM |
R138, his examples may seem frivolous, but the point is that private companies should not have the power to decide what people are allowed discuss. If the the speech is illegal, law enforcement should arrest the person. People are gleeful that he’s been silenced. Now, instead of committing crimes in broad daylight, he’s making them on private phone calls that he can’t be held accountable for. It’s fucking stupid.
by Anonymous | reply 152 | January 8, 2021 11:33 PM |
His YouTube channel is still up and running.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | January 8, 2021 11:34 PM |
Maybe he'll try to hijack Barron's TikTok.
by Anonymous | reply 155 | January 8, 2021 11:35 PM |
As predicted by my humble self and others here, that Ashley cunt is already a martyr for these loons.
by Anonymous | reply 156 | January 8, 2021 11:35 PM |
Congress refused to get rid of Section 230 as Trump wanted them to, but the internet is acting as if they did anyway. It’s a great day.
by Anonymous | reply 157 | January 8, 2021 11:35 PM |
R136 They need to impeach and remove his ass, and call on all national/federal law enforcement to be there.
by Anonymous | reply 158 | January 8, 2021 11:36 PM |
R152, he's not silenced. Funny, people managed to speak before social media existed. Facebook and Twitter are private companies. They're allowed to boot people. Having a Twitter page is a privilege, not a right
by Anonymous | reply 159 | January 8, 2021 11:36 PM |

Freepers like r135 think it's "the mob" to ban someone from social media, because they don't get that posting on social media is a privilege, not a right. No one NEEDS to post on twitter. If you want to see a mob....look at your friends who stormed the Capitol
by Anonymous | reply 163 | January 8, 2021 11:39 PM |
It is illegal to lie and yell "Fire!!" in a crowded theater. You know this will result in harm to people as they trample each other trying to get out.
Trump has been yelling lies for years. His platform for yelling said no.

^^ I agree, R152. But it is admittedly a sticky wicket: Trump et al. incite violence and spread it to 80 million....etc on Twitter OR do it behind closed doors where there are less to spread it to.
Ultimately, stopping him on Twitter is like using a fire extinguisher for a forest fire.
The root problem needs to be addressed: narcissism, sociopathy and the elements that encouraged the Trump Cult.

"Impeaching Trump now could bar him from public office in the future.
While it may seem pointless to impeach a president just as he is about to leave office, there could be real consequences for Mr. Trump beyond the stain on his record. If he were convicted, the Senate could vote to bar him from ever holding office again. Following a conviction, the Constitution says the Senate can consider “disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States.”
Only a simple majority of senators would have to agree to successfully disqualify Mr. Trump, who is contemplating another run for president in 2024, an appealing prospect not just to Democrats but to many Republicans who are eyeing their own runs."

Insofar as entire platforms go, I think the right to curate an official app store ought to directly depend upon the existence of a channel for end users to bypass that app store & install whatever they damn well want to install.
Google blurs the line slightly due to Google Play SERVICES, which introduce dependencies that go beyond mere appstore-availability. If Google bans your access to Play Services, you can still distribute an app as a .apk file... but it can't use maps, location services, log in via Google account, access Google Drive, use Firebase, and more. An Android app without the ability to use Google Cloud Services is crippled, and crippled BADLY.
My standard for acceptable open platform-neutrality is desktop Windows. Microsoft might oppose everything you do & represent, but any .exe file you run will run just fine.
Linux is a study in irony... it's an open OS, running on some of the most locked-down hardware in history. On a PC, it's totally open. On anything with an ARM-derived SoC, it's the manufacturer's total bitch. It's not a coincidence that there's no such thing as VMware or VirtualBox for Android. We've TRIED porting VirtualBox. Without concessions from both Qualcomm & Google, it's literally impossible to escape from TrustZone's jail.
The mention of his supporters having a “GIANT VOICE long into the future” and that “They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!” is being interpreted as further indication that President Trump does not plan to facilitate an “orderly transition” and instead that he plans to continue to support, empower, and shield those who believe he won the election.
Plans for future armed protests have already begun proliferating on and off-Twitter, including a proposed secondary attack on the US Capitol and state capitol buildings on January 17, 2021.

R180, right and if they’d been enforcing their own rules fairly, he would have been banned back during Birthergate. But they, as a private company, are not required to do anything fairly and can set whatever standards of conduct they please, including only allowing speech that agrees with a specific point of view, views they may profit from. This is why a public commons, beholden to the 1A, is needed. Private interests should not have the power to dictate the opinions people are allowed to express. Illegal speech, criminal conspiracies, etc should all be prosecuted by law enforcement. Nike shouldn’t be in control of determining which jokes can be told, Coca-cola shouldn’t be able to determine which music can be released and Twitter shouldn’t be in charge of silencing terrorists.

Freedom vis-a-vis private companies has historically been viewed as a continuum... the more a private company acts like a government, the more it rightfully ought to be constrained LIKE a government.
Twitter banning Trump is fine. There are alternative platforms to use.
Apple/Google banning Parler (or any other app that's not literal malware) is not, unless there's an alternative way to install "unapproved" apps with little more than a sneer of official disapproval from the platform's overlords.
The more back-end cloud services hijack roles traditionally provided without restriction by an OS and become 'infrastructure', the more neutral and judgment-free the platform should be required to be in providing them. This specifically relates to Google... for the past few years, Google has slowly 'boiled the frog' by making 'Android' increasingly entangled with & dependent upon GCS for most of its functionality. A Google-free Android device is EXTRAORDINARILY crippled & borderline dysfunctional.

Chr!st on a cross. WHY, Why, why do so many of you conservatives have ZERO understanding of what american 'free speech' actually is.
You do not have and never have had freedom of speech on PRIVATE platforms and in PRIVATE spaces.
Freedom of speech protects citizens from GOVERNMENTAL suppression of speech. And that's it! This is an extremely basic concept. Considering how much conservatives love to whine about their 'freedumbs', here's a thought: TRY to develop a basic understanding of what those freedom actually are! It's really not that complicated!

I picture him wheezing and puffing, screaming and gibbering, trundling through the White House on his teeny little high-heeled feet, searching desperately for anyone he hasn't fired so he can use their Twitter accounts. Pushing gallon after gallon of soft-serve shit into his special pants and bellowing "Melania!" at the farty upper range of his fucked bagpipes of a voice. His orange pancke makeup dripping down his collar to join the gush of blood streaming from his nose.
There! A kitchen maid! Pushing her roughly to the floor, he grabs her cell phone. In the soft-accented Spanish of her native Peru, she pleads for him not to take it from her, her Twitter feed; but he screams "Look, I don't speak wetback!" and starts Tweeting away under her tag (PérdidaDeTiempo). He begins to compose a long diatribe about why he should be crowned king tomorrow only to have the account erased within seconds.

The stupidity.... other dictators and horrible people are not inciting violence now, this week, after an assault on the capitol killed people. Trump is NOT banned for his policies, his character, his racism, his authoritarianism, his personal attacks... he's banned because he used Twitter to incite violence. He's banned because of how he used the Twitter product.

I agree, R420. There's no legitimate reason to pretend like this is a First Amendment issue, not even as a "devil's advocate" or as a rhetorical device for an article that ultimately concludes it's NOT a Constitutional issue.
We're not in a place right now where the media has the luxury of doing what-ifs or both-sides or devil's advocate articles, not even longform detailed articles are right for the time and place. We need immediate, factual news, repeated multiple times, because the country is still trying to get used to the idea that we just witnessed the president try to overthrow the democratically elected government. People have to process the reality first, THEN you start getting into the minutiae and details and complicated analyses of the tangential side issues.

People are idiots about "free speech" and it shows that civics and social studies are no longer taught in elementary schools.
Free speech does not mean you are free from consequences for what you say or do.
The First Amendment doesn't give you the right to say whatever the hell you want on a platform owned by a private company. They can ban you for any reason or no reason at all, just like any company can now fire you (the at-will employment laws Republicans love so much). Don't like it? Tough!
I'm glad I was around for the first BBS boards and chatrooms, when moderators constantly kicked and banned people who were abusive shits. It taught you that you couldn't be a total flaming asshole and expect to hang out in polite digital society.
Voting is a right. Having a spot on a social media platform is a privilege.
by Anonymous | reply 488 | January 9, 2021 7:42 AM |
What I find surprising is that how he debases himself even further by trying to sneak through the cracks to still post on Twitter (without having his over 80 million followers audience with him). Usually he'd do the "You are not dumping me! I dump you! I never knew you even existed!" dramatic exit. I mean, he even called Fox News insignificant and suffering from poor, low ratings when they are not kissing his ass. I was expecting something dismissive like Twitter doesn't matter anymore, and it's just a bunch of losers blowing smoke up their asses and that is why he quit Twitter (not the other way round).
by Anonymous | reply 489 | January 9, 2021 7:53 AM |
Remember when Palin said “I don’t know what the future of our country would be in terms of First Amendment rights and our ability to ask questions without fear of attacks by the mainstream media.”

R576: If someone already has an app on their phone, and it’s removed from the App Store or Google Play, it will still continue to work. However, phones that use iOS or Android are continually having system updates pushed to them....so at some point there will be compatibility issues. If an app developer has a relationship with Apple and Google, they’ll update their apps to remain functional. Otherwise....
Anyway, when Trump was banned from Twitter and Facebook, his cult followers were likely to follow him to the only other place that would have him: Parler. They likely would’ve had millions of downloads over the weekend, but now they’re fucked.
