Pluto TV is the best

I have a Samsung smart TV so I loaded Pluto TV, Tubi, YouTube and Xumo (all free) onto it. A friend gave me their Spectrum log in to use - then I have Netflix, Hulu (the basic $5 offering) and Amazon Prime. No cable, no fire stick, no Roku, etc. Literally less than $20 per month in subscriptions and I have more viewing options than I can imagine all on my 75 inch flat screen. SCREW CABLE!!!

I want to do this too, but I'll miss my local news and MSNBC and CNN.

by Anonymousreply 1January 5, 2021 4:30 PM

The key is the spectrum login. Someone is paying good money for that subscription and it isn’t you. Lucky you! I pay like $140/month for Internet, cable, Netflix, and Hulu and friends/family leech off my Netflix and Hulu.

I’d love a cheaper option, but the moment I drop my cable/Internet package and just get internet, internet shoots up from $35/month all the way up $80. Those corporate aholes really figured out how to keep people away from Hulu tv and YouTube services. It just wouldn’t be worth the cost if I did that—I’d be paying the same thing.

by Anonymousreply 2January 5, 2021 4:37 PM

Pluto has a 24 hour Family Ties channel. Rejoice!

by Anonymousreply 3January 5, 2021 4:39 PM

Here you go, R1. Put that url in your smart tv’s web browser, and voila! You have the two news channels you want. Some channels there require you to use their VPN for a fee; however, CNN & MSNBC are completely free.

Pluto is a part of my cable service, but the commercials are relentless.

Having said that, I saw two BBC productions on it: the 10-part Anna Karenina from the 1970s and the more recent Little Dorrit.

I also saw about a half dozen low budget gay films I've never heard of before plus a couple I haven't seen in years. Plus they have God's Own Country.

by Anonymousreply 5January 5, 2021 4:48 PM

Pluto is not a planet.

by Anonymousreply 6January 5, 2021 4:51 PM

[quote]Pluto is a part of my cable service, but the commercials are relentless.

How? It's not a cable channel.

by Anonymousreply 7January 5, 2021 4:56 PM

I’m addicted to America’s Test Kitchen airing 24/7 on Pluto.

by Anonymousreply 8January 5, 2021 5:04 PM

I get it on my TV as part of Verizon

by Anonymousreply 9January 5, 2021 5:06 PM

I only pay for streaming options to avoid commercials. I won't sign up for anything that has them.

by Anonymousreply 10January 5, 2021 5:08 PM

It sucks balls

by Anonymousreply 11January 5, 2021 10:42 PM

They sometimes have a few decent movies in their on-demand section. I do hate the interface Pluto's interface. Tubi remains my favorite free option. Still have Netflix and Amazon as well as Sling for a local option and MSNBC and CNN. If an antenna would work for me, I would dump Sling and go to MSNBC online.

by Anonymousreply 12January 5, 2021 10:59 PM

The first three seasons of It’s a Living are on Tubi.

by Anonymousreply 13January 5, 2021 11:18 PM

I'm hooked on the Weddings channel.

Particularly Bridezillas and Wedding SOS.

by Anonymousreply 14December 10, 2021 3:30 AM

Dataloungers and their love of SHIT tv shows from the 70s and 80s! I don't know how anyone can watch that dreck in the present day.

by Anonymousreply 15December 10, 2021 5:49 AM

Pluto will show good movies, and mindless drivel.

by Anonymousreply 16December 10, 2021 5:57 AM

Try the Criterion Channel

by Anonymousreply 17December 10, 2021 6:06 AM

I'm addicted to Pluto Tv and their Cops Tv channel. All for free!

by Anonymousreply 18December 10, 2021 6:12 AM

Tubi > Pluto

by Anonymousreply 19December 10, 2021 9:14 AM

Tubi isn't live tv though.

by Anonymousreply 20December 10, 2021 12:13 PM

I’m so happy they have a 48 Hours channel now!

by Anonymousreply 21December 13, 2021 12:40 AM

I’m watching it now^.

by Anonymousreply 22December 13, 2021 12:41 AM

I’m thoroughly addicted to the America’s Test Kitchen Channel. But the old episodes with Chris Kimball’s smarmy ass are ANNOYING!!!

by Anonymousreply 23December 13, 2021 12:41 AM

I'm confused by thise of you saying you get Pluto as part of your cable or Verizon account. Pluto is free. To everyone. So if you're being told you get Pluto as part of your cable or phone contract. . .what is it that you're getting?

by Anonymousreply 24December 13, 2021 12:44 AM

scammed?

by Anonymousreply 25December 13, 2021 12:47 AM

by Anonymousreply 27December 13, 2021 12:49 AM

24 hour early 80s episodes of The Price is Right is all I need.

by Anonymousreply 28December 13, 2021 12:52 AM

On Pluto watch The 80's "Price Is Right" Channel. It's hilarious and Bob Barker is so sexist, he even said one day he was a male chauvinist pig,, he wouldn't have made it a week today.

by Anonymousreply 34December 13, 2021 2:20 AM

If you get a chance, check out Rescue 911. The re-enactments are HILARIOUS!

Setting kids on fire, power tool accidents, people getting electrocuted....

by Anonymousreply 35December 13, 2021 2:37 AM

Are they still showing the same 12 episodes of The Price is Right from 1982 on an endless loop? That show has been on longer than I've been alive, there must be more episodes they can show.

by Anonymousreply 36December 13, 2021 4:59 AM

I can't believe Bob Barker is still alive. I used to watch The Price Is Right when I was a kid in the 80s and he was an old man even way back then. Is he a vampire?

by Anonymousreply 37December 13, 2021 5:03 AM

You can get free channels on roku tv as well.

by Anonymousreply 38December 13, 2021 5:14 AM

I get it free as an app on my phone I just watch it there. The commercial breaks just seem to be when the normal breaks would have been - not that bad.

That said, it’s absolutely PERFECT for people our age - a 24h Price is Right and Love Boat channel? Come on!!

Surprised there haven’t been 1,003,000 threads on this.

by Anonymousreply 39December 13, 2021 5:44 AM

by Anonymousreply 47December 13, 2021 10:34 PM

R43 I'll have to try watching again. Like the other poster when I watched it was the same few episodes over and over. It is the same reason I stopped watching Hee Haw reruns on Circle, for the first few months it was the same episodes over and over.

by Anonymousreply 48December 13, 2021 10:43 PM

r48, you may not want to waste your time. I just logged in and, yes, still 1982 episodes of "The Price Is Right." The guide currently lists Season 11, Episode 4714 as playing. Season 11 coincides with 1982-1983 TV season.

by Anonymousreply 49December 13, 2021 11:25 PM

It’s desperate tv. desperate for something to watch that’s free, old and low on entertainment value.

by Anonymousreply 50December 13, 2021 11:39 PM

I love the Kung Fu Channel. Was never into Martial Arts movies but they everything from Bruce Lee's 70's claasic to new $100 million Asian movies with spectacular effects and almost always letterboxed. They even show "Man of Tai Chi" written and directed by Keanu Reeves that I didn't even know it existed until this channel.

I enjoy Pluto as well. I also watch a lot of programming on TubiTV. Last weekend I binged the first season of 'Firefly' that I never got to see when it first ran, for some reason. The last 2 days I've been binging sci-fi movies all day long. I love some of the foreign sci-fi movies they have. I just watched a wonderful German movie entitled 'The Wall', about a woman visiting a hunting lodge in the Austrian alps when an invisible wall surrounds the countryside and all life outside the wall seems to have frozen.

by Anonymousreply 70December 17, 2021 12:58 PM

i'm bummed out because i cannot record onto blank dvds with my dvd recorder, any of this stuff! netflix, youtube, and so on.off the TV...

i thought this stuff was just like having HBO or Cinemax or whatever, but i guess no..

on a sidenote, i wonder why cinemax stopped showing all that great soft porn movie late at night stuff? they were KNOWN for that and now they went all legit?!... thank goodness i recorded tons of this stuff beforehand...

by Anonymousreply 71December 17, 2021 1:26 PM

[quote]on a sidenote, i wonder why cinemax stopped showing all that great soft porn movie late at night stuff? they were KNOWN for that and now they went all legit?!... thank goodness i recorded tons of this stuff beforehand...

I would imagine because you can find the real stuff online for free. It’s not the 80’s/90’s anymore.

by Anonymousreply 72December 17, 2021 10:17 PM

Once the internet became mainstream and everybody could get hardcore porn in two seconds, that was the end of the soft core Skinemax movies.

by Anonymousreply 73December 17, 2021 11:37 PM

R73.. i hear you, guess i'm the minority that gets off on soft porn (yes straight) just as much as hardcore porn, to me hardcore porn is the dime a dozen, but to see actual actors (okay, not great actors, but actual actors nonetheless) acting out sex acts and intercourse in many ways to me is hotter than hardcore penetration shown porn...

Tubi has the first and second seasons of Soap, a brilliant and underrated show.

by Anonymousreply 77December 18, 2021 1:13 AM

Who are these Tubi people? Enough.

by Anonymousreply 78December 18, 2021 1:14 AM

I needed some soothing over the past few days so watched the Love Boat Channel non-stop for about 18 hours.

I just started watching Pluto and I have to say, the commercials are a bit much in that the breaks are really long. But being able to pick a channel and let it play away without me picking specific episodes (i.e. Forensic Files on Netflix) is really appealing to me.

by Anonymousreply 79December 18, 2021 1:31 AM

R4 OMG you are my hero. How do you know about such back alleys???

by Anonymousreply 80December 18, 2021 1:33 AM

Only downside is the “having trouble playing this title” happens and I can’t fix it without having to shut my phone down.

by Anonymousreply 81December 18, 2021 6:03 AM

Pluto has a "Midsomer Murders" channel.

by Anonymousreply 82December 18, 2021 10:31 AM

Yes, Pluto has a “British Mysteries “ channel, also Sky News but the commercials are endless. The series I just watched on Tubi had 3 30 second commercial blocks with a timer in the corner and somehow that was much less disruptive.

by Anonymousreply 83December 18, 2021 12:12 PM

Tubi people—start your own thread.

by Anonymousreply 84December 18, 2021 12:26 PM

Tubi and Pluto TV have differing libraries and business models - can’t we all just get along?!

by Anonymousreply 85December 18, 2021 12:43 PM

Watching "The Price Is Right" now, the commercial breaks are exactly where thy were when originally broadcast because Bob Barker announces the break The commercials were 30 second spots for Geicko, Apple TV, State Farm, & new Dabl Channel. When originally aired commercials were a minute long so there was really only two ads and back to the show. Maybe your cable company is adding ads, but I don; think 2 minutes of commercials is out of line. As I said before watch LOGO and see ad abuse.

by Anonymousreply 86December 18, 2021 4:42 PM

Just watched Hellraiser Inferno.

by Anonymousreply 87December 18, 2021 4:43 PM

One thing that gets me about Pluto's commercials is many times they will play the same commercial up to 5 times in a row before they return to the programming.

Tubi's commercial breaks are significantly shorter.

by Anonymousreply 88December 18, 2021 10:49 PM

Watching Forensic Files right now. Lots of antifreeze references.

by Anonymousreply 89December 19, 2021 7:42 PM
