One of my favorite Stanwyck movies. It deserves a restore and should have been filmed in color!
I've always loved the Sammy Cahn songs '(Take It Off The "E" String) Play It On The "G" String' and 'So This Is You'. 'The latter was purposely sung badly in the movie (see link) to spoof the 4th rate singers at the real burlesque houses of the day. Regardless, the melody is gorgeous. It's a shame that Sinatra, Dick Haymes or any of the 40s/50s Pop Baritones didn't rearrange & record it commercially.

I think it’s based on a novel by Gypsy Rose Lee.
She was enterprising.

Stanwyck seems dykier and dykier in everything she ever did, as the years pass.
But then, a lot of strippers and hookers are basically OVER men and turn to women for affection, so I guess she fits right in as a stripper.

The book is a fun read, as well as the sequel, Mother Finds a Body.

Michael O’Shea was quite a cutie in that potato-fed way. Though I think he and his wife, Virginia Mayo were Republicunts, unfortunately.

Always thought Francis Fenton Moran singing "So This Is You" was a take off on Irish tenor voice which was so popular from early 1900's though post war (WWII) in theater and variety shows.
Of course someone with a legitmate or at least well enough trained Irish or whatever tenor voice wouldn't be singing in that flea bag burlesque house unless he was washed up/down in his cups.

Sorry, make that *legitimate*.

I love the fact that the Hayes code would not allow the new fixture for the dressing room to be a toilet; hence, the clunking insert of a sink.

If you listen closely to Francis Moran's singing you can detect bits of Irish lilt to his voice, much like Gilbert O'Sullivan in YT linked clip.
