I love Janet’s. She was popular for ages and has had tons of great hits.
Which artist had the best collection of singles?

Jabba leading a thread, how quaint.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | January 3, 2021 2:33 AM |
Hey, r1. OP here. I’m not sure who/what Jabba is. I did mean to sign my post though.

Elton John had a Top 40 record on Billboard magazine each year for 24 consecutive years. I'd say he wins.

Elton John: Rocketman, Your Song, High Flying Bird, Someone Saved My Life Tonight, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, Philadelphia Freedom, I'm Still Standing, Levon, Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters, Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me, Little Jeannie

Didn't Janet Jackson have that one song which went to #1?
"Esplanade" or something.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 3, 2021 2:55 AM |
I'm not even that big a fan, but Billy Joel had a killer 20 year run of singles. (And I fucking despise his biggest hit "We Didn't Start the Fire.")
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 3, 2021 3:03 AM |
I hate Elton John for "Don't Go Breaking My Heart".
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 3, 2021 3:04 AM |
^ I think Elton and Bernie Taupin hate themselves for it--they used pseudonyms for the writing credits.

R15 did Madonna debut this century?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 3, 2021 3:13 AM |
Please don't engage with the troll who runs tripping into a thread about best singles with a list of most #1s.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 3, 2021 3:16 AM |
R17, A century is 100 years, so I would say so, lol.

R15 /r19. I don’t think that’s what they mean-I think they are meaning “this century” as in 21st century - all those people you’ve listed debuted this century - as in 21st.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 3, 2021 3:22 AM |
Whitney Houston
Elton John
Madonna
MJ

I hate the Beatles but you have to include them
Rolling Stones.

It looks like R15 did a good of job trolling....themself.

R28. Right, That list is comprised of artists who debuted IN THIS 21st century.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 3, 2021 3:36 AM |
Stevie Wonder had a great run of singles
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 3, 2021 3:39 AM |
I am so confused. Best collection of singles? So you are going to include Aretha, Freddy Mercury, Dylan, Patti Labelle...I could go on and on. Janet is cool, but I can list 100 better artists (including her pedo bother...sorry)?

Rihanna has 150 singles? That can’t be right.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 3, 2021 4:07 AM |
R36 some Twitter person really exaggerated at R28. Rihanna has only released 75 singles total, not all of those were even #1s.

I swear some of you have no reading comprehension skills. The title says: Female musicians that debuted this century with the most #1 singles at official charts worldwide (lead artist).
You do realize that there is more than one chart in the world, don't you? Almost every major country has their own official music chart, so an artist can go #1 with a song in many different countries who all have their own chart. Is it really that hard to understand? It amazes me how out of touch Madonna fans are with how the music industry works.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 3, 2021 4:34 PM |
The Carpenters
by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 3, 2021 4:51 PM |
Vogue is the only Madonna single that still gets radio play. All of her other songs are forgotten.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 3, 2021 4:52 PM |
Rihanna could have released 250 singles for all anyone knows.
I mean, most of them sound alike so how would anyone know one way or the other?
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 3, 2021 4:59 PM |
Just say no to Elton!

by Anonymous | reply 45 | January 3, 2021 5:01 PM |
R38, and you are an idiot. Madonna is not on that list because she did not debut this century. "Hung Up" alone went #1 in 41 countries and "Music" in over 20.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | January 3, 2021 5:02 PM |
Whitney, Madonna, MJ, Beatles...
by Anonymous | reply 47 | January 3, 2021 5:04 PM |

R46, and I think Madonna's record has yet to be topped--I think Hung Up and Confessions both hit number one in a record number of countries.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | January 3, 2021 5:26 PM |
Christina Aguilera? The thread title is "best collection", not "most dubious".
by Anonymous | reply 58 | January 3, 2021 5:27 PM |
A song can hit number one and be long forgotten. Just look at most of Mariah's number one hits. Nobdoy remembers Thank God I found you for instance.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | January 3, 2021 5:40 PM |
I’m surprised Billboard didn’t combine Diana Ross as a solo artist with her songs with The Supremes. That’s 18 #1 songs.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | January 3, 2021 6:10 PM |
Again, conflating "best" collection with "most #1s" is stupid. Especially considering the industry's long history of airplay and chart manipulation.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | January 3, 2021 6:13 PM |
Madonna hands down. She wasn't the greatest singer, dancer or actress but the bitch had GREAT POP SINGLES. No one else even comes close! And this is coming from someone who's insulted her all over these threads for 20 years.
