That they are right or are they technophobic?
What do you think of celebrities who refuse to use social networks? Like Daniel Radcliffe

"refuse to use"

I don't really think about it, to be honest.
What do you think OP?

I think it helps to preserve a bit of mystique where stardom/celebrity is concerned. He also probably gets a lot of other things done, as a result.

I think celebrities are smart to stay off social media; it just attracts crazies and at best, people talk shit about you & at worst, they threaten you & your family. If I was a celeb, I'd have some PR person manage an account pushing my next movie, etc. and maybe throw in the occasional holiday greeting, but I'd never actively engage on SM on a personal level

After his disgusting treatment of JK Rowling I find Daniel Radcliffe to be completely obnoxious but on the whole celebrities are sensible to keep off social media. If they are, then it's best to post sparingly and usually only when they have work coming out.
It would have been interesting if Radcliffe had been on Instagram or Twitter though. We could have asked him if, since he believes transwomen are women, he, as a heterosexual man, would ever contemplate dating a transwoman, especially a pre-op one.

I think they're the smart ones. They're smart enough to realize that most people on social media share far too much of themselves. That may not be all that big a deal for an unknown (depending on what they share), but with a celebrity it only takes one wrong word, or one wrong opinion (at least in the eyes of the viewers), to get the ball rolling with all the crazies who flock to social media, to make their lives hell. No matter how popular any celebrity is there are always some who dislike or even hate them. The haters waste no opportunity to try and ruin things for a celebrity if given the chance. It's too bad that many celebrities have yet to figure that out.

Need to take a leaf outta Kevin Spacey's social media strategy.
Post less. Post annual.

Social media is so ubiquitous now that it's not special. The novelty has worn off a long time ago. It adds absolutely nothing of value to a person's life.
Radcliffe can still send nudes.

Some actors on TV are contracted to live tweet as their show airs.

OP is thinking too much, she must be OCD.

R7 this is so true.
I never check or even go to the social media pages of celebrities & artists I love--I'd rather not know about their personal feelings, opinions, and lives, because I enjoy their work too much and don't want TMI to spoil my enjoyment.
Famous people I dislike, on the other hand, are fair game; SM is like their weak underbelly. It's satisfying as all hell to drag someone you despise, for something stupid or trashy or rude they said for which you have textual & pictorial evidence.

Also, I think there is a huge hypocrisy of celebs who *demand privacy* (as is their right), yet post pictures of their kids & things that should be out of bounds (see Teigen, Chrissy). Better to keep your *entire* life private

Who are they? I only know of Bill Murray.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 1, 2021 12:33 PM |
I'd say they are smart OP.

More celebs should be like Radcliffe.
Especially that cunt JK Rowling.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 1, 2021 12:55 PM |
I think they're saying, mind your own business. A lot of people value their privacy. They don't care to share everything that happens in their life.

Would Greta Garbo have social media if she was alive today?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 2, 2021 8:05 AM |
I think they're smart to stay off social media. I'm a nobody, and I still only post on DL since it allows me to remain anonymous. I know how addicting and overwhelming that stuff can be, and I avoid it like the plague.

I think celebs who don’t have official accounts, (or who choose to let their PR team run them to advertise events), are smart. It is a great way to avoid unnecessary petty shit with assholes online.

Rami Malek pulled his Instagram account last year after only ever doing 4 posts for PR purposes, but having several million followers.
An earlier L.A. Times story explains his discomfort: “I thought, ‘What are you doing? Who do you think you are? This is not you,’”
Which I think is about right for many posters.

It's a smart move to stay off social media, especially the braying lynch mobs of Twitter.
