This is unacceptable for many reasons. One a food site should do research. Secondly mincemeat isn't totally unknown in the US. You can find jars of it in the grocery store. And, major frozen pie companies like Mrs. Smiths make them for the holidays.

it contains a mixture of dried and glazed fruit, brandy, nuts, tonnes of spices. Some old recipes used to contain suet, these likely originated from ancient Roman recipes that would preserve meat with dried fruits and spices.

My grandparents were English so I’m very familiar with mince tarts and pies. I usually make mince pie at Christmas. I buy condensed mincemeat, reconstitute it with water, and add some apple, and a lot of raisins. I use Nonesuch mincemeat, which does include some suet, along with dried fruits and spices, no nuts.

lol, if only the stupid food blogger had watched the first season of "Desperate Housewives", the nosy Mrs. Huber made a mincemeat pie for Susan (trying to blackmail her), Mrs. Huber even explained why it was called mincemeat since there was no meat all in the pie.

I'm 57 and I only know about mincemeat because of my grandparents and their much older sisters/brothers. The last time I heard about mincemeat was 1972. Quite honestly, it was before my mother's time
Strangely enough my Aunt worked for some people from India and they loved the jarred mincemeat. They would mix it with drained canned peas

Perhaps that site confused it with the British term 'mince'(ground beef)? Still, no excuse.
Seems peculiar that not one person associated with that site knows what proper mincemeat is. How insular ARE they? Or was Rachel Green somewhere in the vicinity?
Of COURSE mincemeat originally contained actual meat, hence the name. It was prepared in the Fall, at slaughtering time, to take advantage of the colder weather to help preserve it. Prodigious amounts of various alcoholic spirits aided in this, plus various spices to attempt to hide any 'off' flavors.

This is almost as good as when IKEA started selling jerk chicken in its cafeterias served with ‘rice and peas’ - steamed white rice and garden peas. Oops.
