When I was young, models and actors in TV commercials and print ads were gorgeous. They were what we wanted to look like! Today they use plain-looking fat women, balding men with bellies, and unrelatable minorities. I realize they’re trying to appeal to the average every man, but we don’t want to see that! We want to see beautiful people.
Why do corporations use fat and/or ugly models in ads these days??

OP also wrote this:
“ I like Justin Bieber, hot shirtless boys barely out of puberty dancing on TikTok, and Ariana Grande. Is there something wrong with our genetics? Why are we wired like this?”
by Anonymous | reply 4 | December 31, 2020 3:47 PM |
Interesting placement of the 'bush' or tree in front of her crotch.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | December 31, 2020 3:49 PM |
To appeal to people like you, OP! Get a mirror and look at yourself. How many modeling contracts have you snagged, you fat whore?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | December 31, 2020 3:49 PM |
R3 - Read my post again. It’s not racist. It’s using unrelatable models. This guy included.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | December 31, 2020 3:50 PM |
Why is someone posting repeats of threads we just had? This is the third one I've seen this morning, and supposedly not all from the same person, but I'm guessing it's sockpuppets? But what's the point?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | December 31, 2020 3:51 PM |
Indeed, OP. People forget when praising plus-sized and obese models stomping like elephants down the runway, that it's supposed to be about the clothes and presenting them in the best, most flattering way not the fatties and "their truth" wearing them.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | December 31, 2020 4:06 PM |
A larger person provides a larger walking billboard for advertising your brand.
Think of all the fast food joints they're advertising in.

Why didn't you include gays and gay couples in this category?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | December 31, 2020 4:13 PM |
Marketing has gone from glamorizing an ideal to showcasing and praising the average. It's disappointing and unspiring.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 1, 2021 12:39 AM |
Like it or not, people’s bodies are changing. Thicker, fatter if you will.
Honestly, when I look at models super skinny (past and present) it looks terrible and the models look ugly.
Just my opinion, of course

[quote] Why do corporations use fat and/or ugly models in ads these days??
So people like you can bring attention to the brand and provide free advertising.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 1, 2021 12:46 AM |
Who are the minorities that OP can’t relate to?
And why not?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 1, 2021 12:50 AM |
I get the models of various sizes...but if they're unhealthy, clinically obese, anorexic...is it a big plus to have them "modeling" your product?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 1, 2021 1:16 AM |
The woman in OP's pic is Chika, she is an awesome LGBT artist and she's nominated for a Grammy, which is more than I can say for most of you bitches
I also love her for putting me onto her gay BFF who is gorgeous 😈
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 1, 2021 1:22 AM |
Obese models aren't any better than anorexic models. Both are unhealthy. Only hypocrite bitches would argue. I agree with OP, I also need beauty, glamour and stunning models. I need to dream in a time of pandemic and crisis I don't need to get even more depressed than I already am.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 1, 2021 1:35 AM |
"unrelatable minorities"?
Yet another gay racist on DL. Oh, the irony. Do you really not realize how dumb you look right now? Putting down a minority group when you're the main one who should understand the struggle for representation. It's quite pathetic.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 1, 2021 1:43 AM |
"Woke" people are dictating everything now. This is the world they want for us. We can't laugh at whatever we want, we can't dream anymore because they might be offended/schocked, we can't openly talk about whatever we want because they say so.
Progressive they say.
Happy now?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 1, 2021 1:44 AM |
Op, It is the world of individualism. To be exact, the world of frustrated people who absolutely want to be "represented" in order to exist. Because according to them, they will feel SO MUCH better about themselves. This is only a minority of activist people who gets on the nerves of everyone. Our dreams are over. They want to force us to dream of THEM. The smartest know that It's about power, not representation.
Their navel and their little egos come first.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 1, 2021 1:56 AM |
“LGBT artist” r17? Does that even mean anything anymore? Oh she’s bi. Big whoop.
She may be a fine musician but that doesn’t mean the world needs or wants to see her in her underwear.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 1, 2021 2:01 AM |
R22 Be careful, they are going to say you're a racist. Because of course if you don't think she's a gorgeous obese woman in her underwear you might be a racist. Your taste doesn't matter.

Calvin Klein making clothes for obese people kind of defeats the point of Calvin Klein--to make clothes for people with skinny frames.

These giant corporations have earned enough so they want to downsize and slowly drive customers away by using pictures of fat fraus.

R21 probably complains about lack of gay representation....but when other groups do it, it's bad!
Probably 70% of Americans are the same size as that woman (including most of the eldergays here who bitch about SJWs and representation - I bet most of you guys haven't seen your dicks in years, but shit on others so you'll feel better about yourselves)

That's what both the old thread with the exact same title posted a few days ago was about, too. I don't know why someone keeps reposting these troll threads but it's been happening for a few days, and they're always racebaiting or homophobic or something shitty like that.

I’ve never in my life bought a brand because of inclusive advertising. It’s a fucking joke.
Besides, if anything, I’m delusional enough to believe I’m close to reaching unattainable beauty standards if I just try harder. Tom Ford motivates me...not some walrus in CK.

The same people who are attacking OP for racism because he's tired of looking ad morbidly obese black woman as models are the same people who would have issues with flat chested Asian woman and skinny men selling hip hop clothing. Have you ever seen an Asian guy on any Hip-hop ad geared to people of color in America? Or popular brands like Air Jordons?

I miss the world before the "Wokisme" even Obama don't ike them. For them any opinion contrary to theirs is racism. The strategy from imbeciles who when they lack arguments use the racist card to silent you and especially by playing on the guilt rope. It is the fault of the" Wokes", that millions of people voted Trump. This way that the left impose their totalitarianism disguised as humanism can only generate populist votes. They will never learn anything.

r34 Tom Ford is a genius (whom I would also fuck given the chance). His late 90's Gucci was legendary, beyond evocative, and remains influential to this day. Truly the stuff that dreams are made of.
I wonder what he really thinks about the ubiquitous fat rolls of 2020.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 1, 2021 11:59 AM |
I deeply despite this era of "I am a victim". It's called blackmail and I boycott brands who uses the victimhood card like I was boycotting brands who were glamorizing anorexia. Fashion is about beauty not ugliness not morbidity.

Most ads feature nonwhites usually negroes. Unrelatable is an understatement. Most of us yearn for the days when slavery was accepted norm.

When your clothes fit and look sharp, you feel good about yourself, no matter what size.
Diversity and inclusion in advertising are very important and necessary.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | January 1, 2021 1:17 PM |
Consuming copious fashion imagery as a teen in the 90's didn't give me an eating disorder or make me want to kill myself, as the SJW's of that day would have you believe. Instead, it inspired me. It added fantasy to my routine suburban existence and fuelled my dreams. I never missed an issue of Vogue back then.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | January 1, 2021 1:18 PM |
R48 I felt sorry for these people. Imagine the shame they have when looking at the mirror every day. But I still do not understand how a person becomes that fat. You will need a mountain of food to sustain this physique. I would rather starve than stuff that much food in my mouth.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | January 1, 2021 1:21 PM |
Cause most people are fat and/or ugly
by Anonymous | reply 53 | January 1, 2021 1:22 PM |
Normalizing obesity creates an incremental new market of aspirational consumers who buy more shit besides the shit they shove in their mouths. Tell the fatties they're fabulous and you get whatever's in their wallet.

R50 "Diversity and inclusion in advertising are very important and necessary."
Once again the hypocrisy of the so-called Woke persons. Diversity and inclusion, on the other hand you vomit it out when it comes to underweight or anorexic women. As if obesity was less dangerous. You all are a bunch of psychopaths.

by Anonymous | reply 61 | January 1, 2021 2:23 PM |
Celebrating average people instead of pushing people to reach ideals. That's we do now. Get with the program.
In the same vein, if you don't have something you're a victim of discrimination. No need to change and better yourself. Just complain. The bar can always be lowered for you.
You're ugly but want to be worshipped as a model? Just cry for more diversity. Want to have an oscar? Complain about how minorities are under-represented. Want to get admitted to UC Berkeley and SAT is too difficult? Remove SAT as an entrance criterion on the basis that is socially discriminative.
The possibilities are infinite. The race to the bottom has only started.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | January 1, 2021 2:35 PM |
R55 I think you're right. In the past people with unusual or unhealthy bodies (both morbidly obese and anorexic) often dressed in nondescript clothes in order to not draw more attention to it. But obesity isn't unusual anymore and having obese people participate in fashion trends, fast fashion, luxury labels etc. - it opens up a huge new market, with a lot of potential $$.
I think it's nice for larger people that they can dress in fancy clothes as well, but there's a difference between not bullying people for being fat and celebrating the very fact. The whole Health At Every Size and "fabulously obese" trend is disturbing to me and it will probably contribute to the obesity-related health crisis, especially since fat activists love influencing impressionable teens that would still have a good chance to improve their health without suffering irreversible long-term effects of obesity (like tons of excessive skin for example). Crab mentality, if you ask me.

R59, I never said anything like that. All body types should be shown to encourage everyone to try out a product or service. It's not "woke" to want everyone to feel included and accepted and loved.
Representation should be for all, whether plus-sized or skinny, like recently-deceased 1996 Gap model, Stella Tennant.
