I’ve really never seen anything like that.

She is a bit of an egomaniac when she says she knows what makes a great movie and how executives are finally listening to what see wants.

I was impressed with her for carrying the gigantic backpack in Wild. She's little.

by Anonymous | reply 4 | December 27, 2020 9:58 PM |
Please don’t tell me her idea of a “great movie” is Legally Blonde 3!!
I sorta liked her for a while and liked BLL but her Instagram makes me dislike her. She’s Drew Barrymore level cloying and panders to fraus too much. Everything she does just looks calculated for that demographic.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | December 27, 2020 9:59 PM |
Didnt she start a production company that focuses on Women driven content? She’s been turning popular books into tv shows etc....
by Anonymous | reply 6 | December 27, 2020 10:01 PM |
She married a successful A list agent.
She's not a great actress by any stretch. But through connections, got lucky.
Has Streisand level vanity. Was ridiculous playing the ingénue to Jennifer Aniston's seasoned newscaster on The morning show.
Calculating and a huge phony.

She is an entitled bitch but she also has always come across as a shrewd, hyper-ambitious Type A who knows what she is doing. I don't think Tracy Flick in "Election" was a real stretch for Reese to play at all.

She didn’t get a DUI. Her husband was driving. She got cited for Public Intoxication or something like that, which is far less serious.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | December 27, 2020 10:41 PM |
She's smart AND intelligent. Attractive. Connected. And believe it or not - popular with the public. She's not all ego at all. Knows her strengths and plays to them. A great networker, efficient and confident. She'll always be someone. That's in her makeup.

R19, go to bed, Mom.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | December 27, 2020 10:48 PM |
Say what you will about her, but she's not dumb. She knew that her romcom days wouldn't last forever, so she started a production company and started developing projects for herself.
She's also smart enough to get good collaborators. She bought the rights to novel Gone Girl, with the intention of producing and starring in it, but when she met with David Fincher, whom she wanted to direct the film (and who ultimately did), she listened when he told her that she wasn't right for the part and stepped aside.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | December 27, 2020 10:49 PM |
Exactly R21. Actresses have a limited shelf life for the most part, so she's making money behind the scenes. Margot Robbie is doing the same and she has at least 15 years left as an actress.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | December 27, 2020 11:13 PM |
R23 I was also thinking about Margot when reading the thread.
Being the blind of Hollywood she can have every role she wants, but she has been intelligent enough to start producing, with success I may add: “I, Tonya, or “Promising young woman” are good examples.
These two are the perfect example of good instincts when it comes to career-management more than real acting talent. Despite I think both are really good, you have to be to make that big in Hollywood, with Margot being a much more complete actress with more perfect features to be great.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | December 27, 2020 11:33 PM |
Obviously she does tv to stay in the business but she’s playing the same character in all these shows.

Big Little Lies made her cool
by Anonymous | reply 26 | December 27, 2020 11:36 PM |
Big Little Lies was fantastic for everyone involved. As great as Kidman was, Reece was just as good, in a tougher role. The should have never succumbed to do a sequel to the finished story, only to come back and let Meryl stink up the joint with her leaning in.

by Anonymous | reply 32 | December 28, 2020 1:31 AM |
Listen, Reese is not one of my favorite actresses. But do gay men on Datalounge really hate her for saying "Don't you know who I am?" That kind of baffles me. Things I've said to a cop when I was drunk were far more combative than that. And more grandiose. All y'all are more touchy everyday on here. Sometimes I think everyone who posts on DL is a shut in?
I realize there a lot of old white men here who just hate women in general. Unless they fit into some old school drag queen bitch mode. That's why those elders are gay. They had problems with mommy. And dad didn't like sissys. That's not Reese Witherspoon's fault. Goodness.
Look at Alec Baldwin's bloated drunk face whispering with rage today. He's a monster who pulls rank. Beats people. Degrades his own children. Is a hack and a ham and a tyrant. Calls the mayor to get him out of trouble and the NYT to keep him off the pages. But because he's a democrat who was hot 50 years ago he gets a pass? Old gay men are weird old ladies. Baldwin is grotesque and always has been smarmy as fuck. He's toxic. Reese is just bossy. Just like your mommy was. 😝

A good book club can revive a career, and provide inspiration for your production company’s intellectual property purchases. Killing two birds with one stone. If only Winona had started a book club after her sticky fingers event, she would have comeback much sooner.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | December 28, 2020 3:24 AM |
She really didn’t have much to come back from, to be honest. A bit of a rom com rut (which basically just meant she had to start taking those lower paying prestige offers instead), and being caught drunk (oh my) and being somewhat snarky to an officer (while drunk). And not driving, mind you. The only reason it was ever at all an issue was because of her “perfect type A” image.
So she showed a lot of remorse, picked much better projects/got into producing, and was already married to a top agent. What, like it’s hard?
by Anonymous | reply 43 | December 28, 2020 4:03 AM |
Reese is a southern belle and has become America's sweet heart.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | December 28, 2020 5:22 AM |
She wasn’t trying to get out of the ticket when she said “Do you know my name, sir?”, it was already very clear she and the cop were in an argument and not liking each other. She said it to taunt him, like he’d get in trouble. Then she’s pissed again “You don’t need to know my name? Well you’re about to find out who I am.” Then he says “That’s fine, you wanna get all up in my investigation..” and she says “Yes sir I do!” LOL

I like her. She could have disappeared after all those bad movies. But she turned things around...mainly by being canny. I’m sure she’s an awful bitch. Just makes me like her more!
Not a great actress but, as she’s proved lately, has a good sense of what will please the public. Would love to see her play more mean girl/villain roles. Her career ranked after playing those stupid rom coms. She should embrace her cold hard streak in roles.
Similar to how I feel about Hugh Grant. Couldn’t stand him in his early roles as the sensitive, twee, lovesick pup. Ever since he started taking roles as a bastard (which he is—listen to interviews with him), I love him.
Most “actors” should give up trying to be someone else and just play exaggerated versions of themselves.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | December 28, 2020 11:57 AM |
She is smart, she is not a great actress but she knows her stregths and that's important.
Unlike other actors/actress she is not stupid, she likes to read and she is able to know which books have the potential to be good movies or tv shows

Why would they when there's money to be made.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | December 28, 2020 2:08 PM |
Yeah I really like her. I mean come on she was in "Election"! As a former high school Student Body President I adored that movie. Anyway, people can shit on her RomCons but unlike Aniston, Reese's RomCons are basically frau classics, with "Legally Blonde" topping the list. A gay friend of mine made me watch "Sweet Home Alabama" it was pure trash, but it made a lot of money at the box office, for a cheap by the numbers movie.
She may be stuck up but she seems like the fun Hollywood type that I'd hangout with. Her home is gorgeous, based on the few TikTok videos she puts out. She's not living in a McMansion with a gate but a regular nice Beverly Hills (I don't really know) home. Her kids are good enough looking and she got to have Ryan Philippe in his prime as her breeding stud. Dumbed him when he became too much of a bitch following her Oscar win and found a new man.
Most Oscars derail careers or don't pay off like they used to. Reese was smart enough to recalibrate everything after her win. I think she copied Sandra who started a production company in the early 2000s.

Reese’s movies may be better, but everyone finds Jen Aniston to be much more likeable.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | December 28, 2020 3:19 PM |
R32 Before hitting it big in Hollywood film, she did a bunch on indie films where she played unlikable/unsympathetic characters (American Psycho, Election, etc.)

Reese is a producer who initiates her own projects.
Of course she's going to be more successful than the average actress, who just sits around and waits for the phone to ring.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | December 28, 2020 5:55 PM |
I know I’ll take flak for this, but she’s genuinely entertaining. Her pictures typically make money.
She had this incredibly mortifying, very public encounter with her own inflated ego, but she played the response like the pro she is.

Fair point, Jennifer's done more comedies than Reese has.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | December 28, 2020 11:58 PM |
Aniston is a much more laid back and cool public presence. When she was younger - always so pretty without trying too hard and as she grew older - staying healthy and letting it happen. Show the legs and good skin and keep the hair happening. (Jen could have played Streisand in some bad biopic.) Her whole deal is drier and ironic. It's not a warm public persona but an understandable one. She's a chick. Being herself, but she'll deflect anything too personal with humor or a thrown margarita. Aniston always seems more like herself. Reese is no doubt smarter, faster and less stoned, ha. She's a pageant girl in life AND drag race terms. Always a good interview. But she drives even her best friends and family hard behind the scenes.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | December 29, 2020 12:24 AM |
I think she can be a good actress when she wants to be. She's great in Freeway. I like her in ensembles like Inherent Vice and American Psycho. Those were small roles but she was enjoyable in them.

She's a smoker and is looking a little plastic these days.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | December 29, 2020 12:56 AM |
Aniston doesn't look plastic at all. She looks every day of her age. Her face is getting heavy & her eyes are hooded. Small lines around thinning lips. Like a real person. Her body is toned and tanned and her overall look and style is healthy and bohemian. She's not a freak like Jane Fonda. Jenn likes to eat and live, smoke and drink! She's rich, bitch. I'm sure you do more to damage this world and yourself everyday, R59. ☮️

What a dumb assertion and ridiculous assessment of that show R63. From the moment MICHAEL KIWANUKA's Cold Little Heart starts playing - Big Little Lies was inventive, engrossing, funny and at times mesmerizing. Great show. Well written and brilliantly performed. Season One, only.

Say what you want about Reese's private personality, but she still has an "America's sweetheart vibe" in public. So the switch would have been surprising in Gone Girl. Rosamund Pike just screams psycho.
