Kamala shares with us her most tender childhood memories of Kwanzaa.

She born in 1964 to an East Indian mother and Jamaican father.

People actually celebrated Kwanzaa in the 60s-80s?

by Anonymousreply 1December 27, 2020 4:07 AM

I think his dad hates her. His dad is a socialist and he must disapprove of Kamala corporatist view. He also publicly shamed her a year ago. To think that he would write a public letter with such harsh words.

by Anonymousreply 2December 27, 2020 4:09 AM

by Anonymousreply 3December 27, 2020 4:09 AM

R1 Black Panthers and a handful of activists. It went mainstream in the 90s. I highly, highly doubt her foreign national parents had heard of it in the 70s. They weren't hanging out with people from Watts.

by Anonymousreply 4December 27, 2020 4:17 AM

R2 Her father all but disowned her publicly. That doesn't get brought up much šŸ˜¬

by Anonymousreply 5December 27, 2020 4:18 AM

What a crock of shit! Kamala is an American/Asian Indian Woman! I highly doubt she knows a damn thing about Kwanzaa.

They've already had her shaking her ass to Cardi B, telling "weed stories" and listing her favorite Snoop Dogg songs. Next she'll be sharing fried chicken recipes, reciting Maya Angelou and giving tutorials on how to wrap scarves around your head like Erykah Badu.

When will the nonsense stop? Has she no shame?

by Anonymousreply 6December 27, 2020 4:20 AM

Her dad did a real number on her. She jumped from men to men back in the 80s and 90s. She dated a bunch of DJs who obviously weren't committed to her. She may wanted to be like the Kardashian at some point. I think she doesn't speak to her dad now.

by Anonymousreply 7December 27, 2020 4:31 AM

R15 / DL Logic goes as follows:

Any criticism of any Democratic Politician means that YOU MUST be a MAGA Hat wearing, Fox News Viewing, Kyle Rittenhouse-worshiping, card-carrying Repub!

by Anonymousreply 17December 27, 2020 4:59 AM

R15 You don't have to be Republican to hate her, though after the election it might help. She didn't get any love when she scolded Joe during the Democratic debates and dropped out fairly early along with that closet case Corey Booker and Kristian Gilabrand? Whatever! She wasn't liked in Democratic circles and she's a fraud who uses race as a stepping stone. Her mother came here from India at the age of 19 and was already a doctor. Though to hear Comma-la tell it it sounds like a cliched poor immigrant tale.

Kwanzaa was celebrated in the Bay Area where Kamala was raised in the '70's. It's a wonderful holiday honoring principles like collective work, unity and responsibility. The holiday involves a different concept for each day, lighting candles, and having wholesome harvest meals.

It was popular and wholesome. What is wrong with you all not believing Kamala celebrated this with her family? You prefer Mike Pence?

We know the people trying to deblack Kamala are only doing it to torpedo her chances in 2024. They know she's a non-starter without the black vote, but they're in for a shock. Black women (the real kingmakers in elections) are solidly behind her. She's one of them, a HBCU product and still active in the largest black sorority in the country.

by Anonymousreply 58December 27, 2020 12:09 PM

I was in college in CA in the 70s, and we had it there/then. Kamala is just the demographic (academic political parents) to have celebrated it. But back then I think it only had one ā€œaā€ at the end.

by Anonymousreply 59December 27, 2020 12:17 PM

R56 Warren, Sanders, Buttigieg, or Klobuchar- who all performed better than her in the primaries.

by Anonymousreply 60December 27, 2020 12:22 PM

Many of the BS posts above are amusing as Kamala was far and away considered the best choice for a running mate back before Biden had chosen one. Literally all of the other possible choices were in her rearview mirror from day one. THAT is why she ran in the primaries to begin with. The primary race was always between Joe and Bernie. Even Warren never had a chance in Hell (even though she had the notoriety that Kamala, Pete, etc. lacked). She led the "Veepstakes" polls for everyone that mattered including Vegas. I only read nasty things about Senator Harris (sorry, VP Harris that is!) on Repug sites and you guessed it - here. She is moderate, well-spoken, beautiful, personable and most certainly has an "IT" factor in spades. Everyone has a right to their opinion, but most Democrats (not pathetic trolls and Trumptards who invade this website 24/7 pretending to be liberal) have little if anything against her. She might not be your personal favorite, but I can't see any reason to dislike her either. The only polarizing thing about VP Harris is that she is female. If you are a racist and hate her for that reason - fuck off and get with the times. Same goes for you if you are sexist. It's almost 2021 folks.

by Anonymousreply 61December 27, 2020 12:25 PM

There's no way she can win a presidential campaign. And I think she'll get primaried.

by Anonymousreply 62December 27, 2020 12:36 PM

Like Biden, Harris was considered among least unsuitable/objectionable in the pack of wholly unsuitables/objectionables. The PR/populism doesn't change that reality.

by Anonymousreply 63December 27, 2020 12:37 PM

by Anonymousreply 64December 27, 2020 12:41 PM

R62 - Well I guess that you have 4 years to stew about that, for now - no one gives a fuck and this isn't terribly relevant when neither she or Biden are even in office yet. 4 years of being the 2nd most powerful person in the country changes a lot when it comes to his or her future "electability".

She failed miserably in the primaries with her radical socialist agenda. Furthermore, like what other people have said already, sheā€™s a total phony and plays the race card every five seconds. Even in the VP debate she came across as a cunt.

As usual, DL never fails with its racist and ignorant trolling. Her dad influences the development of Kwanzaa in the early 60s before meeting her mom:

[quote]Harris arrived at the University of California, Berkeley on a colonial Jamaican government scholarship in the fall of 1961. Later in the fall of 1962, he spoke at a meeting of the Afro American Associationā€”a students' group at Berkeley whose members would go on to establish the discipline of Black studies, propose the holiday of Kwanzaa, and help form the Black Panther Party. After his talk, he met Shyamala Gopalan (1938ā€“2009), a graduate student in nutrition and endocrinology from India at Cal Berkeley who was in the audience. According to Harris, "We talked then, continued to talk at a subsequent meeting, and at another, and another." In July 1963 he married Gopalan. The couple divorced in December 1971, when daughter Kamala was seven years old and daughter Maya was four years old. The children visited Harris's family in Jamaica as they grew up.

I really hate the fuck out of the racists that seem to dominate here all the time, and I'm white. Don't tell me this is just how DL is because I've been here almost 20 years.

[quote]What a crock of shit! Kamala is an American/Asian Indian Woman! I highly doubt she knows a damn thing about Kwanzaa.

Her dad influenced the development of Kwanzaa you stupid fucking shitstain.

[quote]So your racist assumption is that Harris and her family celebrated a completely foreign to them holiday because her father is Jamaican.

How is it racist to believe what someone herself says? The obvious racism was your assumption that she was lying in the first place!

The troll logic here is really something. "you're racist for believing a black woman is telling the truth about herself!" Might want to dial it down a notch, Cletus. Your hatred is clouding your already limited intellect.

by Anonymousreply 120December 27, 2020 5:06 PM

[quote] I really hate the fuck out of the racists that seem to dominate here all the time, and I'm white.

Hilarious that you thought you had to tell us you're white. No one thought you were black. The only ones screaming racism every thread are "concerned" whites.

by Anonymousreply 121December 27, 2020 5:10 PM

So her father invented Kwanzaa?

by Anonymousreply 122December 27, 2020 5:31 PM

She loves to climb the Black Lives Matter tree when itā€™s politically expedient and yet as a prosecutor she locked away more black men for smoking pot than anybody else. However, the media is in the tank for her and Biden and theyā€™ll be allowed to dodge and lie all they want.

by Anonymousreply 123December 27, 2020 6:20 PM

Some unnamed person invented 'kwanzaa' in the year 1983.

R122 Her father gave speeches to a student group whose members would later go on to assist in founding Kwanzaa- so no, he was uninvolved and probably didn't know or care about it.

by Anonymousreply 127December 27, 2020 8:56 PM

Swahili is spoken on the west coast of the wrong island.

R37 I don't see how Kwanzaa resembles anything in that article. It looks a lot more like a rip-off of Hannukah, in which a row of candles is lit one-by-one each night.

by Anonymousreply 129December 27, 2020 9:19 PM

R114 - Because Melania IS a whore with documented photo evidence and not much else from what I can see. She can't speak English, is a plagiarist, is worthless in general and is essentially a dumb bag of rocks. But I really don't care do you?

No, R133 it's because what R106 tells us. "Every politician is a liar"

by Anonymousreply 134December 27, 2020 10:32 PM

If Kwanzaa is really about yams, I already like it better than theistic holidays. I donā€™t trust anyone who believes in the supernatural and sure as shit donā€™t want them in charge of anything more than bagging my groceries.

by Anonymousreply 135December 27, 2020 10:37 PM

R132 That's not at all comforting, since it implies Democrats defrauded the public with a sham candidate while planning to oust him and insert a party appointee no one voted for.

Scummy much?

by Anonymousreply 136December 27, 2020 10:42 PM

The Irish relied on potatoes in the same way as Nigerians rely on yams.

They have the festival praising God for giving them rain for the yam crop.

by Anonymousreply 137December 27, 2020 10:44 PM

I love potatoes. Iā€™d be much more enthusiastic about holidays if more of them were potato-centric. Thatā€™s it. Iā€™m celebrating Kwanzaa from now on.

by Anonymousreply 138December 27, 2020 10:47 PM

Potatoes can be fried, mashed, boiled or eaten cold as potato crisps.

But can you do the same for yams?

by Anonymousreply 139December 27, 2020 10:54 PM

R139, sure, why canā€™t you do those things to yams? Who says you canā€™t?

by Anonymousreply 140December 27, 2020 10:55 PM

^ I've tried Sweet Potatoe and found them disturbingly sweet.

I've never tried yams because their name reminds me of Popeye and Olive Oyl.

by Anonymousreply 141December 27, 2020 11:05 PM

What the fuck do you have against Pop Eye & Olive Oyl?

by Anonymousreply 142December 27, 2020 11:08 PM

You can cook yams (taro) and sweet potatoes (a different plant) all the same ways you cook potatoes.

by Anonymousreply 143December 27, 2020 11:08 PM

Let's be frank, dear, they are Lower Class.

by Anonymousreply 144December 27, 2020 11:09 PM

R143 But are they better? Or just different?

by Anonymousreply 145December 27, 2020 11:10 PM

R145 Sweet potatoes are much softer and really sweet. They're better as a dessert.

Taro is really starchy and kind of bland. A lot more similar to a red potato.

by Anonymousreply 146December 27, 2020 11:27 PM

I'm a cook rather than a gourmet so I prefer vegetables that are versatile.

Carrots, for instance, can be baked, shaved or grated to go in sandwiches or blended to be added to citrus smoothies.

by Anonymousreply 147December 28, 2020 3:19 AM

Bitch called me a racist on national TV. I'm over her. JILL! make sure she gets a lousy office with a squeaky chair and watch that she doesn't slip anything into my food.

R135 I guess we need our new President-in-waiting refer to explain whether her cherished "tender childhood memories" refer to wholesome vegetable foods or irrational, supernatural rituals.

by Anonymousreply 151December 28, 2020 4:30 AM

Maybe the government is implanting false memories in her brain.

by Anonymousreply 152December 28, 2020 10:20 AM

R152 that would be the Mandela Effect

by Anonymousreply 153December 28, 2020 3:51 PM

Did Mandela claim to have celebrated Kwanzaa as a child?

by Anonymousreply 154December 28, 2020 4:21 PM

That must be it. Sheā€™s Mandela Affected.

R154, Mandela either invented the yam or recalled a childhood spent in dreary Dickensian England.

Her Jamaican dad is an affluent academic. I wonder how he and his family in Jamaica feel about her aligning herself with African Americans. In my experience the well-off and educated Africans and Afro-Caribbeans are often very snobbish and even somewhat bigoted in how they perceive African Americans.

Sort of like how the Taiwanese, Singaporeans and Hong Kongers feel about the mainland Chinese.

by Anonymousreply 157December 28, 2020 8:15 PM

R160, an Indian friend of mine taught me to make a yogurt-based gravy that she sometimes cooked yams in. I found the gravy delicious but I can rarely find yams in my local supermarket so I use other vegetables in it instead.
