Shitz. Invented by a lesbian and they keep advertising on cable news.

Depends on what you like in your sheets.
I like all cotton with soft hand (how it feels to the touch), so I like a good quality sheet often with a sateen finish - except in summer when the sateen may feel to hot and I like a looser weave.
Some really expensive Percale sheets with a high-thread cotton feel too stiff even after many washings.
I also like a nice color or print. It's nice to have all white or solid sheets, but it gets boring after a while.
I like to look for Peacock Alley sheets on sale. These usually run upward of $300 for a Queen set.
I once found a Peacock Alley fitted sheet in a nice print on Amazon on sale for under $30.
Matouk is another of my favorite brands.
Some of the cotton bamboo sheets on Amazon are very good and very inexpensive.

*the sateen may feel too hot

Why the fuck do you hate yourself so much? You don’t want to spend money on sheets, but you spend six to eight hours on them every fucking day.
There are some things for which we should all feel shame. OP is one of them. Self worth begins with washing your ass and continues as you put yourself into good linens.

Boll and Branch

Flannel sheets for me are a must in the winter, regular cotton sheets are just so cold and I have never noticed much difference in expensive or cheap flannel sheets. One of the few things I look forward to in Winter are my flannel sheets.

Try Tuesday Morning for quality linens at bargain prices. They sell peacock alley, sferra and casa línea for well under $150 and if your lucky a good clearance deal for $65.

Not cheap but worth the price: Thomas Lee. They periodically have 25%-30% off sales.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | December 27, 2020 2:05 AM |
If I want to try a particular maker of expensive sheets, sometimes I buy just a set of pillowcases first.
If the pillowcases are comfortable and well made, then maybe it's worth investing in more expensive pieces or a set.
Also sometimes, you have to wash and live with a set of pillowcases a few times before you can figure out how well made they are and if they're a good fit for you.

I guess we can take r4's comment as a definite "HISSSSSSSSSSS!"

I use Brooklinen 100% cotton percale in navy blue. Can't wait for this sateen trend to end. I wish the sheets were a little thicker, but I'm satisfied. (The weave is tight enough and the color doesn't fade very much.)
One thing that makes my queen-sized bed feel more comfortable is having two sets (four total) king-sized pillows. I can prop up in my bed and look at my iPad, etc.

I really like my PiuBelle Portuguese Cotton sheets.
They've got and incrediblly soft, rustic feel. Found a queen set (minus the unwanted shabby-chic ruffles) at Home Goods for under $60.

I found great sheets at Target. Very comfortable even after a year.

For the last dozen years or so I've bought all of my bedding from Bloomingdale's, with the exception of a couple things directly from Ralph Lauren . Bloomingdale's has a pretty decent selection.

^"couple of things" I hate when people leave out the "of". It sounds so vulgar. I just mistyped.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | December 27, 2020 3:17 AM |
Matteo. Antique linen changed everything about sleeping.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | December 27, 2020 3:19 AM |
Bamboo blends are very soft.

I really like the linen sheets from Merci in Paris, kind of expensive but they will last forever and they feel great, they also come in a lot of great colors.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | December 27, 2020 6:21 AM |
Avoid the lure of heavy thread counts (over 400): they will just make it harder for your skin to breathe under the sheets, and make you feel hot.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | December 27, 2020 6:48 AM |
Can we talk about thread count? I have some 1200 thread count sheets and some around 600, I barely notice the difference. Am I just not as discerning as most people, can you really tell the difference?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | December 27, 2020 1:30 PM |
I actually prefer lower thread counts.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | December 27, 2020 2:49 PM |
Article from Consumer Reports says:
[quote] To get that higher number [thread count], manufacturers use thinner strands of fabric twisted together as if they were one. Then they double, triple or even quadruple the thread count to make the number more attractive to the consumer. “It ups the count but doesn’t give you a better sheet,” says Slaven. “The sweet spot is 400.”
by Anonymous | reply 24 | December 27, 2020 4:46 PM |
R24 is right. Most of those astronomical thread counts are scams adn are really inferior quality. I went down this rabbit hole many years ago.
I also came to prefer percale weave to a sateen weave. I need a cool sleeping environment and percale retains its coolness. My body gives off plenty of its own heat - I don't need that from my bed linens.
I also have Thomas Lee sheets. This is when they have big savings.
Also Bed Bath & Beyond has a good selection of bed linens. They closed the store I used to go to all the time. I always loved walking around that store and stocking up on shit then using all my coupons. LOL!
by Anonymous | reply 25 | December 27, 2020 6:00 PM |
Thanks for that, R24. Sneaky bastards.

Berkshire Blanket velvet fleece sheets in the winter. Like sleeping on a cloud.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | December 27, 2020 6:10 PM |
I bought some Boll and Branch cotton and have been very happy with them. Going to get a set of flannel for winter from them.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | December 27, 2020 6:19 PM |
Go to Costco, buy sheets, return if you're not happy with them. That's usually the path of least resistance to me. But the review below is thorough. I found the LL Bean sheets too stiff for my tastes.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | December 27, 2020 6:30 PM |
I’m kind of old-school; I go out of my way to support gay-owned businesses. Some are hits, some are misses. That said, I absolutely love my sheets from Bokser Home. Highly recommend.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | December 27, 2020 7:55 PM |
take your Target gift card and by the a cotton Threshold sheets.....cheap and 100% cotton
by Anonymous | reply 32 | December 27, 2020 8:08 PM |
I'm happy with Fieldcrest damask sheets from Macy's. 450 thread count.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | December 27, 2020 8:10 PM |
Damask sheets? Surely that has to mean damask-patterned sheets.

I have always liked the 300 count Hudson Park sheets from Bloomingdales. Earlier this year, after reading the NYT/Wirecutter article linked above, I bought a set of percale sheets from Riley. I don't like the way they fit. If you have a deep mattress, the top sheet will barely cover it, but the fitted sheet is too loose. So I'm going back to Hudson Park next time.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | December 27, 2020 11:42 PM |
I am a huge fan of 100% cotton Percale sheets. They are crunchy and a little bit stiff which I really like. I go for a 300TC for all the reasons posted above. I am actually just buying two sets on sale right now and saw this thread! Weird timing.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | December 27, 2020 11:51 PM |
That's a great tip R31. Really reasonable prices too.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | December 27, 2020 11:54 PM |
Yeah, thanks, R31, for the Bokser link. Hard to find percale sheets, esp. just the fitted.
I have bought nice sheets from Costco, but lately it's been all sateen and I need percale.
I have also bought nice pillow cases (Fieldcrest, I think) from Target.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | December 28, 2020 4:07 AM |
Guys, I'm bumping this thread b/c I bought some Bokser brand sheets as mentioned upthread by R31. I got some percale (100% cotton) fitted sheets. Previously, I was getting sheets from Brooklinen, which I also like. I think Bokser is probably better-quality. Prices seem comparable to Brooklinen.
R31 said it's a gay-owned company, so that's another reason I'm bumping this thread.
On top of that, there's a sale (discounts) going on right now.

My favorite sheets are the Batiste sheets from Cuddledown. Batiste is a plain weave like percale, but is the lightest of the opaque cotton weaves.
They are incredibly soft, durable, and Cuddledown has frequent sales. They are long-staple, single ply cotton, 330 thread count.
They are softer than percale, not as clingy as sateen, and are especially great for summer. They are very smooth, and iron like a dream. They also fold down very compactly, so they take up less space in my linen drawer.
They are also available open stock, so I don't have to buy a set with pillowcases that I won't use (I have a full bed, but use king pillows.)

I have POLO Ralph Lauren sheets on my Twin bed (my bedroom is small and I'm single). These are some of the best sheets I've owned since Penneys made good sheets under the Chris Madden brand in the mid-2000s. They're light, cozy, wash well without pilling and were around $50 for my twin bed. A little pricey, but it was a gift. And totally worth it.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 28, 2021 8:04 PM |
Definitely sheet cakes.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 28, 2021 8:06 PM |
Yeah, a long, long time ago, I bought some Ralph Lauren sheets from Ross. They were supposed to be imperfect in some way, but I couldn't figure out what was wrong with them. Very nice quality.

Where do you find some fucking decent REAL 100% Egyptian Cotton sheets with a decent thread count and don’t have fake shit mixed in (microfiber, etc)? I have been trying to find some decent sheets since my ones I’ve had for a decade are starting to wear out and it is ridiculous how many shitty sheets are on the market. They’re either mixed with fake shit or they are scratchy as hell even though they have a high thread count.😡
by Anonymous | reply 44 | July 9, 2021 2:26 AM |
Confirming what was said upthread, paying for a thread count anything above 350-400 is just you being hosed.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 9, 2021 2:37 AM |
Why are beds measured in king-sized, queen-sized, etc., but sheets are listed in inches wide and length? Wouldn't it be more consistent to list sheets as for a king-sized bed, for a queen-sized bed, etc.?
by Anonymous | reply 46 | July 11, 2021 1:25 AM |
Why does every thread on this site wind up grayed out?
by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 11, 2021 1:37 AM |
Thirding the recommendation for Target's Threshold sheets. Inexpensive, 100% cotton, wear well and get softer with every wash. Plus avaiable as open stock as well as sets. I have a lifetime supply of pillowcases already, so I just get the fitted sheets and I buy twin size flat sheets, because I'm a thrasher and don't want to wake up wound up like a mummy in a wider sheet.

Yes indeed, we too use "cookies." Take a look at our privacy/terms or if you just want to see the damn site without all this bureaucratic nonsense, click ACCEPT. Otherwise, you'll just have to find some other site for your pointless bitchery needs.
