Condoms

A friend of mine, in his 50’s has never had sex without a condom. He’s had two long term relationships, one with a poz guy.

It was so weird for me to think that someone has never felt the pleasure of natural sex. He says he’s so used to it and fear of HIV is so ingrained, that he never wonders about it.

by Anonymousreply 89January 1, 2021 8:21 PM

Thanks for sharing?

by Anonymousreply 1December 26, 2020 1:04 PM

HIV has affected gays physically and psychologically.

I complete understand the backlash against condoms in the naughts and am thankful for PrEP and the understanding that U=U.

Sex is a natural part of our lives and being constantly reminded that it will kill us is a doozy

by Anonymousreply 2December 26, 2020 1:04 PM

I know at least two guys who felt bottoming was the essence of their being and got HIV, not on purpose exactly, but because they knew it would be inevitable.

They seem to be living normal lives now (thanks, science) but people made choices.

by Anonymousreply 3December 26, 2020 1:06 PM

Condoms, Rose, condoms!

by Anonymousreply 4December 26, 2020 1:06 PM

I'm 46. I've never fucked without one either.

by Anonymousreply 5December 26, 2020 1:06 PM

We need a complete evaluation of how HIV has affected the gay community—and it’s not just those who got it.

As a bottom, it never felt any different with or without a condom so have always demanded one—but thankfully now with PrEP, the spontaneity and the intimacy is so much stronger—the sex flows so much better

by Anonymousreply 6December 26, 2020 1:08 PM

R5, I fucked wearing condoms too until I got into a relationship. But then he cheated and it freaked me out. I don’t think I’ll ever fuck without a condom again

by Anonymousreply 7December 26, 2020 1:10 PM

I would like for my tops to wear condoms, but so few do nowadays that I felt somewhat forced to start PrEP.

by Anonymousreply 8December 26, 2020 1:10 PM

I don’t get that guy who will only be sucked if they’re wearing a condom. Do they still exist? Rubber tastes nasty

by Anonymousreply 9December 26, 2020 1:11 PM

For me it's basic hygiene. I don't buy for a minute it feels worlds better without a condom and I don't care. You wanna fuck, rubber up.

by Anonymousreply 10December 26, 2020 1:13 PM

Same as r7 here. Only relaxed my condoms-always rule in a LTR, then found out he'd cheated. This was back in 2004 or so, pre-PrEP. Dumped him, and went back to condoms 100% of the time. There's other nasty diseases out there from anal sex anyhow. Plus I like longer sessions, and condoms keep me going longer (especially once I discovered the larger ones).

by Anonymousreply 11December 26, 2020 1:13 PM

PrEP is a fantastic achievement, but it doesn’t protect against other STDs.

by Anonymousreply 12December 26, 2020 1:44 PM

When I was with my long term boyfriend we almost always used condoms simply for the fact it was "easier/cleaner". Pre-lubed/easy to take off/wash, etc.

by Anonymousreply 13December 26, 2020 1:47 PM

Do you boys ever think about anything other than satisfying your base sexual needs? Now I'm not one to judge, but I have to say that it comes off as an addiction.

by Anonymousreply 14December 26, 2020 1:54 PM

Not just the gays! The fear of God was placed in me as I saw MANY of my close friends die of AIDS, including my best male friend since childhood. His bf died first, and he died a few years later.

Condoms are like wearing a seatbelt, as far as I’m concerned. And I’ve never had an STI or unwanted, unplanned pregnancy, either.

So there’

Seriously though, everyone on NYC was vanishing back them. I don’t blame your friend for being extra careful.

by Anonymousreply 15December 26, 2020 2:03 PM

This scares me. People Prep is not a cure for HIV and you can STILL GET IT. Wear the condom.

by Anonymousreply 16December 26, 2020 2:08 PM

I’m of a different generation (millennial [31]} and have also never barebacked. I’m with R10- I never got its appeal and can’t fathom it being worth the risk. Sure, my refusal to bb has cost me some hookups with insanely hot guys, but at the end of the day, health is more important. PreP isn’t magic, and there are STDs other than HIV.

by Anonymousreply 17December 26, 2020 2:12 PM

Condoms are so unsexy; a huge turn off. My dick deflates when I see one.

by Anonymousreply 18December 26, 2020 2:15 PM

get over it, r18.

PrEP doesn't protect against other STIs.

by Anonymousreply 20December 26, 2020 2:19 PM

If you BB regularly and have a lot of partners you will almost certainly end up with HPV and one or both types of Herpes after a while. The thing about PrEP is--did they refine it after the lawsuit? Do you still run the chance of it slowly killing your kidneys?

There's also the usual gon/syph/chlam, which are developing strains that are harder and harder to cure, resisting the antibiotics.

And does "weekend PrEP" really work in any way other than an "better than nothing" way?

by Anonymousreply 21December 26, 2020 2:22 PM
Now I'm not one to judge

Why bother saying that when it clearly isn't true?

by Anonymousreply 22December 26, 2020 2:35 PM

Judging is underrated. I'm not being facetious. It's like not "judging" someone for mask use. These are contagious diseases you're spreading. I know a guy who got throat cancer from HPV.

by Anonymousreply 23December 26, 2020 2:38 PM

I wonder what HPV means.

by Anonymousreply 24December 26, 2020 3:28 PM

HPV=HIV plus venereal disease. It's a medical term.

by Anonymousreply 25December 26, 2020 3:31 PM

R24 and R25

HPV = human papillomavirus

by Anonymousreply 26December 26, 2020 3:32 PM
Sex is a natural part of our lives and being constantly reminded that it will kill us is a doozy

No it’s not unless you’re a whore hun. You don’t need sex to survive personally.

by Anonymousreply 27December 26, 2020 3:35 PM

HPV = more commonly known as genital warts, there are many different strains, and some of them ultimately lead to cancers in different areas of the body, i.e. anal/rectal cancers, throat cancers, penile cancers. If you're having that sex where the man go up into the other man, particularly if you're on the receiving end, you should be getting anal pap smears every so often.

Condoms help quite a bit but do not totally eliminate risk.

Especially now that you can get the larger British/European ones online, there's really no excuse. One brand goes all the way up to 69mm diameter which, with ~15% stretch, should accommodate anyone.

It is still bonkers though that the FDA requires an opening of 57mm maximum, LAID FLAT, which is only 36mm rounded

by Anonymousreply 29December 26, 2020 4:02 PM

Skyn Large is the best No odor, great sensation

by Anonymousreply 30December 26, 2020 4:33 PM
And does "weekend PrEP" really work in any way other than an "better than nothing" way?

Apparently weekend PrEP seems to work just as well as taking PrEP daily

by Anonymousreply 31December 27, 2020 2:33 AM

Condoms? Get out of the kiddie pool. Take a dip in the danger zone.

by Anonymousreply 32December 27, 2020 2:37 AM
Apparently weekend PrEP seems to work just as well as taking PrEP daily

It's called PrEP-on-demand, and it's legal and accepted by health authorities in many other first-world countries. What do you think the hold-up is in the US?

by Anonymousreply 33December 27, 2020 2:39 AM

“Natural sex”, OP says as he puts his dick in another guy’s ass.

by Anonymousreply 34December 27, 2020 2:49 AM

R34 you do realize anal sex was not invented at Stonewall, right?

by Anonymousreply 35December 27, 2020 2:51 AM
It's called PrEP-on-demand, and it's legal and accepted by health authorities in many other first-world countries. What do you think the hold-up is in the US?

There isn’t a hold up in the US, it’s accepted by health authorities here as well.

by Anonymousreply 36December 27, 2020 4:08 AM

Condoms are so 2005. I'm a very active power bottom, and I haven't asked my tops to wear them in years. I'm on PrEP, and haven't had any STIs. It's so liberating to fuck as nature intended.

by Anonymousreply 37December 27, 2020 5:02 AM

R37 is a proper whore darling... I’m going to faint

by Anonymousreply 38December 27, 2020 5:38 AM

You know what else he never wonders about? How dying of AIDS feels!

This thread types old. Anyone *actually* getting fresh hot dick on the regular switched over to bb w/PrEP ages ago. I fuck once or twice a week usually - and no matter which city I'm in, the vast majority of guys on the apps (who aren't on the DL from their wives) are happily, safely fucking bare, either through PrEP or TasP. Took me a while to get over my initial fear of bb at first, but R37 nailed it - it is BLISS to fuck without a balloon on your dick. Feels so wrong and yet so right, lol!

by Anonymousreply 41December 27, 2020 6:52 AM

And aren’t other STDs generally on the rise, esp among young gays?

by Anonymousreply 42December 27, 2020 12:45 PM
“Natural sex”, OP says as he puts his dick in another guy’s ass.

One man sticking his cock into another man’s ass IS the most natural thing in the world and has been going on since the dawn of time. You sound very tired.

Oh, and that’s not where the comma goes in that sentence. Where did you receive your education?

by Anonymousreply 43December 27, 2020 12:56 PM

Much respect for those who keep it wrapped. If you lived through AIDS you’d understand. Much like wearing a mask now. I think many will wear masks for years to come. Especially in winter.

by Anonymousreply 44December 27, 2020 1:03 PM

R44 types "old bitty"

by Anonymousreply 45December 27, 2020 1:07 PM

Man, I dislike the gay on here who think "old" is the smartest insult they can hurl. Especially when they don't know that it's "biddy" and not "bitty."

by Anonymousreply 46December 27, 2020 1:11 PM

As long as they’re Magnums it’s all good and he better fill out those babies right!

by Anonymousreply 47December 27, 2020 1:12 PM

Do SKYN Large count? 😘 I prefer the non-latex, but they're a little snug.

by Anonymousreply 48December 27, 2020 1:14 PM

I was at a bathhouse last year and this guy put a condom on me before he gave me a blowjob. I was going to say to him - I only like to get sucked with a condom but then I said to myself - Let's try something different. So I did.

by Anonymousreply 49December 27, 2020 1:56 PM

Ugh Like animals. The fact you have those complaining about having to put on a condom and wanting all the pleasures proves how humans are no different than animals. I hope the minutes of pleasure is worth the cost.

by Anonymousreply 50December 27, 2020 1:57 PM

I was going to say to the guy who put a condom on me- I only like to get sucked WITHOUT a condom. My post above was a typo.

by Anonymousreply 51December 27, 2020 2:00 PM
I hope the minutes of pleasure is worth the cost.

There is no cost; we’re all on PrEP now. Do keep up.

by Anonymousreply 52December 27, 2020 2:13 PM
Do you boys ever think about anything other than satisfying your base sexual needs? Now I'm not one to judge, but I have to say that it comes off as an addiction.

What other topics would be discussed on a thread entitled “Condoms”?

by Anonymousreply 53December 27, 2020 3:05 PM

I say perform public castrations to those caught having sex During this pandemic!

by Anonymousreply 54December 27, 2020 3:10 PM
There is no cost; we’re all on PrEP now.

r52, you need to keep up: [italic]Although rates of syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia have increased in recent years, the numbers are “nowhere near” the historical peaks that were seen for the rates of syphilis or gonorrhea in the early to mid 1970s in the U.S., according to Christopher B. Hurt, MD, associate professor of medicine and director of the North Carolina HIV Training & Education Center and principal site investigator for the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program Part D at the University of North Carolina Infectious Diseases Clinic. The steep decline in the rates of gonorrhea and primary and secondary syphilis in the 1980s and 1990s were due, in large part, to action in the gay community, and then in the general public, to “normalize” condom use before effective HIV treatments were available, Hurt said.[/italic]

by Anonymousreply 55December 27, 2020 3:11 PM

I also wonder/worry about the long-term cost of PreP on kidneys and other organs. Seems like a lot to subject the system to for so many years just to avoid condoms

by Anonymousreply 56December 27, 2020 3:40 PM

And another thing (sorry for ranting) but has this year taught us [italic]nothing[/italic] about the potential of a virus or its variant wreaking havoc?

by Anonymousreply 57December 27, 2020 3:53 PM

They say Truvada has the potential for long-term liver/kidney issues, but Descovy doesn't. The replacement co-molecule doesn't have those side effects.

by Anonymousreply 58December 27, 2020 4:01 PM

No one is even taking Truvada anymore.

by Anonymousreply 59December 27, 2020 4:03 PM

People taking PrEP have their livers and kidneys checked every three months.

My doctor has said that mine are in excellent shape and I’ve been on PrEP since 2013, the last year having switched to Descovy.

by Anonymousreply 60December 27, 2020 4:46 PM

Good news, r60. Although long-term effects are TBD.

by Anonymousreply 61December 27, 2020 5:01 PM

all condoms seem too tight girth-wise

by Anonymousreply 62December 28, 2020 3:20 PM

I wouldn’t do anyone who was positive but “undetectable “. No device or pill is going to change that!

by Anonymousreply 63December 28, 2020 3:54 PM

I always use condoms for safety and to avoid the dreaded Shit Dick.

by Anonymousreply 64December 28, 2020 4:09 PM

R62 are you seriously saying 69mm diameter (2 3/4 in) is too tight?

by Anonymousreply 65December 28, 2020 4:57 PM

If you're gonna love it, you'd better glove it.

by Anonymousreply 66December 28, 2020 4:59 PM

r65 I haven't measured the diameter of the condoms, I just know they feel constricting around me. But still wear one always for fucking.

by Anonymousreply 67December 28, 2020 5:16 PM

Just because this thread seems like the place to share this. While checking out at my local Duane Reade last night, a handsome, lanky guy, mid-20s, got in line behind me, apparently a friend of the checkout crew. They all started joking with him about what he was buying, so I turned to look—and he's holding the biggest box (36?) of Magnum condoms. "He expecting a big night," they shouted. It took all my self-control not to more fully check him out myself.

by Anonymousreply 68December 30, 2020 12:38 PM

Celibacy is vastly underrated.

by Anonymousreply 69December 30, 2020 12:48 PM

R68- I thought you were going to tell us that this good looking lanky guy was checking you out or started flirting with you.

by Anonymousreply 70December 30, 2020 1:39 PM

Condoms are for preventing *pregnancy*. They don't belong anywhere near an asshole. #RawIsLaw Get on PrEP you cheap 'MARY!' bitches...

by Anonymousreply 71December 30, 2020 1:45 PM

You can avoid warts with the HPV vaccine

by Anonymousreply 72December 30, 2020 1:46 PM

PrEP is so important a step that it should go over the counter. We can stop HIV altogether this way

by Anonymousreply 73December 30, 2020 1:46 PM

There's really not much of a difference in feeling. Wear one ffs.

by Anonymousreply 74December 30, 2020 1:57 PM

r71 the only asshole who doesn't get it is YOU

by Anonymousreply 75December 30, 2020 2:03 PM

I barely wore condoms even before PrEP. My motto used to be "if you ask me to bag it, see ya later, faggot". But now that's mute, because no one even requests to wear condoms anymore. And if they do, I wind up giggling. These days with PrEP there's absolutely no reason not to go raw. I'm vers, leaning toward bottom. My ass gets a ton of play. Yes I am a whore but whatevs. Even with the pandemic, my hookup count is nearly on par with 2019, and they've all been bareback.

by Anonymousreply 76December 30, 2020 2:21 PM

For R67

by Anonymousreply 77December 30, 2020 2:29 PM

It’s so weird and strange and funny hearing men talk about this. For a woman it is never a choice and never will be, until enforced male birth control becomes mainstream.

Thankfully I’m a goldstar and I’ve had a safe fortunate life so I’ve never had to think about it, but if I went anywhere near a guy sexually by choice (ugh, perish the thought) he would have to double-wrap or nothing. I don’t want a disease, much less a damn kid!

As for munching, well, a dam is fiddly, gloves make you feel like a serial killer, wrapping a dildo looks so silly, and lesbians tend to lower rates of STD transmission. All the same, that’s no excuse and we should be more vigilant. I wonder if there’s a way to make protection more of a thing in the lesbian community.

by Anonymousreply 78December 30, 2020 2:31 PM

r76 it seems like you can fit more nonsense in a post than you can fit cocks in your gaping ass. Thanks for likely spreading syphilis, gonorrhea, and COVID. And for being why they hate us.

by Anonymousreply 79December 30, 2020 2:36 PM

Plus it's "moot" not "mute" you frigging ignoramus.

by Anonymousreply 80December 30, 2020 2:36 PM

thanks r77. Ever since I've started using SKYN Large, I've really come to enjoy non-latex better. The sensation and lack of latex smell outweighs a little snugness. A little lube inside is a good trick btw for everything to feel better.

by Anonymousreply 81December 30, 2020 2:47 PM

You guys who still use condoms must be hooking up with fat old gay men, because nobody, and I mean nobody, hot and under 30 wears condoms.

by Anonymousreply 82December 30, 2020 2:50 PM

I’m in my 60s and have never had sex without a condom. Looking back, I’m glad I was extra cautious.

by Anonymousreply 83December 30, 2020 2:50 PM

I feel sorry for you, r83. You've missed out on so much pleasure. Condoms are nothing compared to raw.

by Anonymousreply 84December 30, 2020 2:56 PM

I've slipped a few times but otherwise I only fuck with CONDOMS. I'm a top.

by Anonymousreply 85January 1, 2021 7:46 PM

r83 I'm 64 and I've never worn a condom. And I was a whore. (A religion should start surrounding the miracle of me never catching any disease whatsoever.)

by Anonymousreply 86January 1, 2021 7:49 PM

Like r86, I've also been a moistly condomless pig bottom whore my entire life and am miraculously still here to tell the tale. The few times my tops wore condoms, the sensation just wasn't the same as raw. Yeah I guess my sex life has been a little Russian roulette-ish lol, but no harm done.

by Anonymousreply 87January 1, 2021 8:11 PM

I'm a big old slut

by Anonymousreply 88January 1, 2021 8:16 PM

r87 I've only bottomed once. I understand how the feeling is different for the top, but is it really that different for the bottom?
