Heart of a Dog (2015)

This trippy and brilliant autobiographical documentary by Laurie Anderson, which I caught on the Criterion Channel and have since purchased, is a deeply moving, idiosyncratic, and kaleidoscopic ode to and reflection on life, love, and death. In a way, it is an homage to the passing of three of the most important figures in her life: her mother, her husband Lou Reed, and her dog.

Have any of you seen it? (I’ve linked to a full copy on YouTube below.) It’s perfect viewing for this time of year.

It's SO good! I second that recommendation.

R2 I’ve watched twice in; once while smoking pot (this is an experience; a great one) and once sober. I loved it both times. This and Cameraperson are two of my favorite docs.

Anderson seems like a moron.

R4 Why?

R4 Well?

Still no one?

OP- THANK YOU!!! I am watching this sometime today and I will report back. I LOVE personal /or not so personal documentaries...

I don't want to cry today so I'm going to save this one for later.

R11 Aw! If it helps you decide, I found it uplifting and life affirming. Also, it’s very abstract.

I stumbled upon this thread earlier today and just finished watching this. I'm not sure if I am smart enough to pick up what she is throwing down here. I found it to be a strange thing to watch. A bit dreamlike and soothing. I am interested in Buddhism now.

omg. I love you for saying what I wouldn’t! I felt the same. I’ve watched it a few times and have gleaned more from it upon each rewatch.
