Let's diagnose Whitney Cummings
I used to kind of like her, but have found her increasingly insufferable as time has gone on. Her podcast has truly become a case study in mental illness, which has reached a hard downhill slide since the pandemic started. She presents herself as a queen of self-help and is constantly blathering on about whatever new, trendy therapeutic technique she's discovered, or some theory about neurology that she's grown an unhealthy attachment to. Lately, you could make a drinking game out of her podcast—take a swig every time she says "ancestral trauma" or makes some oblique reference to her ancestors being West Virginia coal miners (implying she has some warrior spirit because of it), and you'll be drunk in the first 10 minutes.
She is also a self-admitted pathological liar (though she claims to be "reformed"), and has carried on a repellent charade where she compulsively reminds people how she "grew up poor!!!" and was "SO working-class!!!!!!" even though it is absolutely untrue (Ivy league educated, raised in Georgetown, mom worked in PR for Neiman Marcus, daddy was a venture capitalist, graduated from an elite prep school—give me a fucking break, sweetheart).
The unfortunate part is I think she's legitimately intelligent, but her personality is truly fucking disgusting—a saccharine mix of people-pleasing , pure arrogance, and neurotic insecurity on a level I have rarely seen. I watched her interview with Larry David's daughter last week and had to turn it off because she was being such a vile cunt, constantly interrupting and projecting her own neuroses onto her. It's painful to watch.

I've been a fan for a long time but was confused about a year ago when she said one of the reasons she might not marry the guy she's with is because weddings are expensive. She was only talking about the big day. Not the cost of a divorce. Bitch, how much money do you have?

i find her extremely grating and her intensity level is a bit much.... but she doesn't offend me to the level that i want to diagnose her. she does a lot of rescue work for animals and she seems to have a lot of female friends. she also appears to be a hard worker (she's sure churning out those podcasts).
also she is honest about how fucked up and damaged she is. i think her mother was an absent alcoholic.
bottom line... i'll take whitney any day over that cabal of frau mommy celebrities (i.e. mindy kaling, reese witherspoon, natalie portman) who pretend to have it all together on their bullshit social media - constantly sharing clean eating recipes for their brats and posting about gratitude and book recommendations blah blah blah zzzzzzzzzzzz.

sorry - one more thing (R2 here). agreed the cazzie david interview was painful but cazzie (who i also like) is a shitty guest. getting her to talk is like pulling teeth. so naturally whitney got anxious and filled the space with her yapping. not surprising.
her interview from a few days ago with kaley cuoco was better because kaley gave the snark right back to her. she does best when it's move of a conversation and less of an interview.

R2 / R4 I hear you, and that's what I like(d) about her in the first place, but I also feel like she is ingratiating to the very frau mommy celebrity types you mention—but not outwardly. She seems to seek the approval of men and other women who are more of her ilk.
For me, half the time she's talking, I am more or less on the same page and can feel she is being genuine, but the other half, I sense pure artifice—it feels like she's lying, and I don't trust her. The irony is that, for someone who is apparently so studied on unconscious communication, body language, primordial brain function, etc., she doesn't seem to realize that people can sense the dishonesty she exudes. It's all rather subtle and I know it comes from a place of serious insecurity, but it still manifests in ways that make me repulsed by her.

R2 here. yes OP - i can understand that. like if she were to suddenly get married and have a baby - she would join the mommy cabal in a heartbeat, is that what you mean? i can see that happening. it's all damage and brutal honesty until you join the frau club and then suddenly you are talking about your toddlers and getting sponsored by amazon.
one genuinely funny thing she posted awhile back on instagram was a bit on celebrities all doing instagram lives at the beginning of covid and reading negative comments about themselves but pretending to ignore them. she talked about how you can see their reactions even though they pretend to not notice the comments. I would go back and try to link it here but she instagrams so much, I would have to scroll through 200 photos to even find it.

She was funny when she did those roast shows. I wish she'd done more of them. Was she never invited back, or did she deem herself to big for them?
Same with Lisa Lampanelli. I only know of her because of those roasts.

Oh, the celebrity roasts. For the newly arrived and the near dead. Amy Schumer did one too. Do you think she has to do it again? Whitney Cummings is not funny. And she lied about all her cosmetic surgery. Just say nothing, don't keep lying about it. She's fucked. She's hated on Datalounge, but Chelsea Handler is far more blunt, honest and naturally funny than Cummings. And yet, they're very similar. Chelsea just self medicates and doesn't beg for men.
Natasha Leggero is funny. Amy Schumer is sometimes. Lisa Lampanelli can't do her act anymore. That kinda racist shit don't fly. She's a life coach.

If a comedienne is dirty but self-deprecating, that means they have a healthy attitude. If they are dirty but NOT self-deprecating, that means they have deep psychological problems. Here is my proof:
Dirty and deprecating: Joan Rivers, Lisa Lampenelli. Both work very "blue" but also had / have their lives together.
Dirty but NOT self-deprecating: Whitney Cumings, Kathy Griffin, Margeret Cho. All work very blue and are total train-wrecks.

Margaret Cho is genuinely funny and talented, though. She doesn't have to be self-depricating. Whitney is obnoxious, but she seems aware of her issues.
