Yes, the gay puppet had her own show. And you thought 2020 was strange.
Is it time for DL's annual thread?

Let's be fair. It's still better than Bette Midler's sitcom from 2000.

1982. I was in 4th grade and loved that show with Madame and the Lander’s sisters

My mom said Madame was nasty.

What do you expect with a homo's fist up her ass?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | December 21, 2020 12:15 AM |
Madame used salty language for my virgin 9 yr old ears.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | December 21, 2020 12:16 AM |
Yes, Madame was nasty. That's why we loved her!

[quote] Lander’s sisters
How many sisters did Lander have?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | December 21, 2020 12:18 AM |
2 sisters

Who was the target audience for this show?

Fags.

That's Johnny Haymer as Madame's valet, a true show-biz never-made-it but a friend of my parents, don't ask me why. They went to New Faces of 1956 just because he was in it. I got the playbill.
They didn't know anyone else in show biz, but my father had an affair with Martha Hyer. Or that was the story, anyway. It was probably actually Bea Benederet or someone like that.

Never funny...couldn’t stand it when I was a kid. Even worse seeing it now.

Almost 40 years later, it’s difficult for us to imagine that a show starring a puppet would be green-lit by a major network but just 40 years before this aired a puppet was one of the biggest stars in America.

Wayland and Madame were regulars on the Hollywood Squares, and so their appeal with Middle America was known. Straight audiences didn't get all the jokes, but they loved that Madame was naughty and sassy.

Madame was a fun concept but this show was shit. Horrible acting.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | December 21, 2020 3:11 AM |
I agree, Madame was incredibly wooden in this.

I'm with R17. She went around with no emotion whatsoever -like she had a stick up her ass.

Did Dionne Warwick sign off on her likeness to be used? is she collecting royalties?

It wasn't. This was made for nightly syndication.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | December 21, 2020 3:45 AM |
Does Melissa Rivers get syndication money from this?

Any show that casts Susan Tolsky is A-OK in my book.

Wayland Flowers was cute talented and gay
by Anonymous | reply 23 | December 21, 2020 7:11 AM |
Flowers and Madame were big casino stars...they weren't some fringe gay resort act.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | December 21, 2020 7:22 AM |
And a few year later, we got "ALF."
by Anonymous | reply 25 | December 21, 2020 7:38 AM |
Op it's so good natured. Love it ❤

I loved Madame’s music news segments on Solid Gold!

Madame was charming but that whole character was Wayland Flowers on stage, and she was meant for a few minutes here and there.
This show was dreadful because 30 minutes of Madame is about 20 too much.
And sadly, no has done the character well since Flowers died.

The TV show wasn't that good because Madame couldn't be her usual bawdy self. Here's Madame at her best in her lounge act.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | December 21, 2020 7:37 PM |
Madame always reminds me of a Las Vegas version of Lady Elaine from Mr. Rogers.
Also, were Wayland Flowers and Bob Mackie ever in the same room?
They're very similar looking.

The Landers sisters (Audrey and Judy) were constantly on TV throughout the 80s, they must've guest-starred on every single show. They couldn't act and they were cheap and whorish-looking but they got a lot of jobs because straight guys loved them.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | December 21, 2020 7:52 PM |
The Go Fug Yourself girls used to follow the Peldon sisters, who were like the late 00s/early 10s version of the Landers sisters, but they never took off.
Guess not as many straight old guys are casting these days!
